Devs - Simple Question - Why?

Just HOW was the Tau Dewa team elite patrols in any way something that required a nerf? As outlined in another (similar) threat:

They clearly state in the information menu, on the lower right side of the screen anywhere in the DQ, that the level gap between missions can be crossed by several way, including replaying patrol missions. And that's exactly what we are doing !

Seriously, they make a bad levelling curve, and they blame the players ? Lol Cryptic !

So you say not only we CAN do this but SHOULD and then take that ability away?

WHAT THE [EXPLETIVE] ARE YOU THINKING? I just want a reason.. ONE reason why this had to be “fixed” (veterinarian sense of the word here) at all while many players are still having:

* random crashes to desktop
* massive lag spikes
* broken ability trays
* broken/missing boffs
* a broken upgrade system
* and a multitude of other bugs that are genuinely negatively affecting gameplay

Seriously… are you just tired of STO and decided if you PO the players enough you can just force them away so you don’t have to deal with it any more?

I genuinely want an explanation for this rationale.

    Because you were having too much fun. When this happens, Cryptic intervenes and makes sure the game isn't fun anymore.

    Btw, everytime I land at Q'nos and beam back up to my ship, my boff ability tray is completely reset. I guess nerfing a legitimate means of leveling is more important...

    Somehow I fear that the barrel is overflowing soon if stuff like this continues...

    The game was fine before the expansion... now they require us to spent double time on half rewards...

    Hinder the leveling process by cutting XP in a half or more.

    I mean players log in to have fun... but when a game becomes a job its not fun anymore and I think Cryptic is beginning to tip the scales for this. Granted theres always someone playing that game but I fear that longtime players and most of the Pre-EX2 players might consider to leave it for good.

    Balancing is fine... but this is going into the wrong direction. More timegates, spent more money, less reward.

    I can only say that. I am a player that spends money on this game. I have lifetime subscription but yet I purchase some amount of ZEN every month and even with that the game feels like all your efforts are a drop on the hot stone right now... I cannot even imagine how this might be for a player who decides not to spent a single dime on the game...

    Do thoose players even make progress? Do they get anywere without playing the game 20 hours a day with like 30 alts?

    STO has come a long way with alot of ups and downs... but for this course of action its hard to find any words.

    It has a bitter taste of the game might be going downhill and that they just want to squeeze the last dollars out of the player base before going off with a bang...

    In other news, at least there's this:
    Thank you all for making Delta Rising the most successful update ever for Star Trek Online! We believe that Delta Rising showcases the best storytelling, art, and game play that we’ve produced yet, and it has been fantastic to see so many captains joining the Delta Alliance to face the threats in the Delta Quadrant alongside members of the Voyager crew.

    To celebrate the amazing success of the expansion, we’re giving away 20 Lobi each day on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday this coming weekend. To get your free Lobi visit Grym in Earth Spacedock or Qo’noS to pick yours up.
    You can visit once each day on Friday October 24, Saturday October 25, and Sunday October 26 between 12:00AM and 11:59PM PDT.

    In addition, we will be running our bonus Dilithium Ore event for four days this weekend. Have a great weekend and enjoy Delta Rising, Captains!

    I seem to have missed any post where the a dev or even a mod said anything official about this. Someone "quoted' a dev.. but my search could neither find that quote nor any user by that name.

    Would someone please link any official post?

    Yeah, nobody was having fun with Japori eyebleed.

    There's just no fun way to progress skill points in DR, particularly when you consider that level 60 isn't the level cap, it's where the number stops incrementing. The functional level cap is 110 with the specialization system (95 to be functionally capped, since you can't use both secondary specializations at once).

    Go somewhere else, do something else. The game is quite big, remember?

    It's been a week since DR launched and none of my toons are 60 yet.

    And you know what? I don't give a #$%^ about it.
    Everywhere I look, people are screaming about how bad Cryptic is.
    What's my position?

    Not the point I was making. This isn't about "why are you taking this away" as much as "how is THIS more important to "fix" than the genuine bugs listed above?"

    After all, the Tau Dewa runs were working exactly as Cryptic had suggested - use them to gina levels between episodes...

    I have a gut feeling that those saying the drop rate for crafting perks was too high and this they will not abide.

    Boff and Space Doff can be fixed if you save the loadout. Go in space, set up everything and save the loadout. That fixed it for me.

    You can check yourself. Once you've unlocked your first patrol in DR, you can fly around and you have the small panel in the lower right corner (at least it's the lower right corner for me), which is something like "contact command". In it, they say how you can level up outside story mission. One of them is "Continuing diplomatic contact", which is "RP" talk for patrol missions. Funny thing, if you select "show me the available patrol", nothing happen.

    So yeah, basically they say we can do the patrol mission. It's pretty much implied "DR patrols", but that's really borderline to say which patrol can be played, and which can't be.

    Patrol missions have always been the XP grind in the game to close level gap. Alongside exploration and mirror universe STF, which were both removed. It's not new....

    Yes, they were, because not everything is a bug they can fix in two tenths of a second. You Crashed to desktop. Can you prove without a shadow of a doubt it's not something wrong on your end?

    You're lagging? Ping the server. I once spent a whole month at least with some nasty lag issues. Turns out my ISP was having a disagreement with the ISP who services the server farm and they were throlling each other. And there was nothing Cryptic could do about it.

    I've been following the devs and other staff on twitter and they all seem to be rather caring, passionate people, both in their work and in Star Trek. So to say they don't care is so many kinds of wrong. So they don't want you to play the game the made the way you want to. They want to do it the way they intened. and Japori is not how they intened.

    the problem is, those "patrols" aren't fun. I had no interest in them the first time. They aren't worth a replay. Once Im through with the story I will never go to the Delta Quadrant again

    That's true. Also, the mobs in DR have so much hull and CC when you start reaching the higher level, they takes ages to kill. And I just did them in normal, I don't want to think about elite with a full group.
    But as I said, they clearly state we can level up using patrol. Just like we did all those years back when the game was young and there was not enough xp in the story missions. Yet they close a whole sector when we do them. Logic =/= Cryptic.

    After completing the content, and getting to 59.5, I was thinking "ok I need a break from this game. I'm not doing that TRIBBLE again."

    So, we're meant to feel this way?

    well this is the experience they intended........apparently..

    so yeah I guess :/

    Dont worry im at 58.5 atm and i feel the same. I actually cant enjoy the story anymore because ive got the "for **** sake ive got to grind again after this" thought in the back of my head all the time.

    Yes, it is confirmed that it is not on my end.

    The bugs need to be fixed. Can they be fixed overnight? No, and no one expects them to. Have we been given any real update as to the status of these major issues? No, not really. Hence irritation, angst and frustration. - ESPECIALLY when they make a magical neutering of a function of the game that is actually working properly and benefits players.

    Are the Devs good guys? Sure, probably, I personally don’t know. Whether they are or are not holds no bearing over what is going on.

    Still, in the end I strongly believe the TD system was closed down NOT to nerf xp but because the drop rate for superior crafting mods was too high. Perhaps it is an easy fix and this is why they have decided to move forward with it. However, the fact they have been giving the impression of ignoring the more significant bugs whilst attacking the minor things that may cost them a few bucks raises concerns and suspicion amongst the playerbase.

    A game is supposed to be fun. Some people want a challenge, some doesn't. Also, I don't see what's challenging in redoing the same mission over and over.... Is that more challenging than redoing a patrol ?

    Hm, would you like to explain how it was "hacking" at all, no outside power was used, and it was not an exploit either. All I saw was clever use of the rules they already had in place and had encouraged people to use. What the players did was do EXACTLY what the point in the patrols were.

    While i would love to believe it was for a technical reason that forced them to do it, i have become cynical from all the F2P MMO's that it is likely that they just wanted people to hop into their new, shiny, missions and stuff right away..
