Wow.
I really just want to congratulate the Devs on this. I never once saw it coming, but now in retrospect, it came together flawlessly. Like... it's all there in canon, but so obscure at the same time. You guys really know your Trek.
If you want to know a bit more, this scene from TNG pretty much has it all...
Picard and Riker Blow up an Alien
So anyway, what do you other captains think of our new big bad?

And, very unlike cryptic, they actually managed to make it believable and interesting.
Perhaps my only issue was that when fighting the bugs in the cave, there was very little room to manoeuver , and when they caught up with you they ... well they didn't do anything badass or creepy .
The grapple hook was also nice, although I could have lived without the holo emmiter failing . That bit just felt like padding .
Nice mission all in all .
... besides , emergency power always fails during an emergency ...
thank you cryptic for feeding my parasitophobia.
why? star trek is known for many great things, not being cheesy is not one of them.
if I stop posting it doesn't make you right it. just means I don't have enough rum to continue interacting with you.
The clip is a Stop-motion, low-budget solution.
You have to remember, that when this was recorded, the future of TNG was very open, as they did not yet know if the show would survive past it's first years...
It's like every business: Don't shove too much money into it, until you know it's gonna work, and pay back.
But yes... Without a doubt one of the too cheap solutions.
Well , that ep. already had the extra puppet required , and I liked the "queen" bug .
Plus this was before stuff was done in CGI , and I even like that the small critters are kind of bad .
Adds that retro feeling .
Better that then outdated CGI ... /shrudders
Nice work.
"What was THAT?"
"Our ancient shame."
(near the end of the mission, when her erstwhile ally is just standing around in the (spawning?) pool, she was sweeping the room with her proton rifle's muzzle while telling him to get out of there, now.)
You seem to have forgotten what time period TNG was in and what the budget was.
But yeah, well done on that story and the Bug Hunt mission. That's probably my new favorite ground TF.
Yea, 1998 had such great FX, right.
References? Or just trolling -- yea just trolling.
It was more an issue of time. I will guarantee you never saw any film student work that was able to do anything = with a production schedule of a few weeks.
Also for the time and for tv it really wasn't that bad in general. The episode was nominated for Best Makeup at the 40th Primetime Emmy Awards. So I would say people in the know disagreed with you.
The episode is also on many best of lists.... its one of my favorite episodes... and honestly the campy head explosion at the end was perfect B nod horror. Was a cool change of pace and I wouldn't have changed anything. Make the bugs look like current CGI junk and the episode would have been forgettable.
Edit: Was talking about the new STF
^This right here.
Bit of advice on it too: the bugs only do Physical and Toxic damage, so while most armor is less than effective against them... the Nukara rep ground sets are awesome. I think the bugs are also a bit vulnerable to cold damage, or at least, have lower resistance to it. The Romulan flamethrower works well too.
Well, TV budget first season. They still had a ways to go.
