So I decided to start a KDF toon during this bonus weekend, only to find out when I hit a new rank and it says -new ship- under rank rewards(lvl 20, lvl 30 etc), and I talk to J'mpok and bekk strass check my journal etc and only DIl and Zen ships are available? So, I'm stuck in this B'rell class unless I pay? it works for feds... and I'm a Trimonthly GOLD member 500 day vet, WTF gives? is this a bug? or false advertising? Where is my Rank Up/EC ships?
The progression of klingon (and romulan) characters is for whatever reason tied to the story progression. Nromally everything ties seamlessly together but during the xp event we see the flaws of this mechanic. You'll overlevel way too fast before you get the approprite mission to "progress" and are forced to keep your rusty bucket untill you hit that point in the "story". The federation is the only one (what a surprise ) who can actually take advantage of the event since they get stuff without this screwed up system.
Heh, it's the same progression story again. The XP event that's going on messes up with people's progression and the missions associated.
OP, you need to do the mission called "Test of Mettle". As a part of the mission you are assigned to a new T2 (lvl 10-20) ship. You can choose a BoP, a raptor or a battlecruiser. This also affects receiving the free promotion ships of any following tier - if you don't do "Test of Mettle" and claim your first ship, you won't be able to claim the second free one and so on...
You can find the mission in the journal ("J" button) under 'Episodes' and then under the first tab of episodes called 'Empire'. If you need to claim the ship asap, you can skip the missions before "Test of Mettle" and re-play them at a later date of your convenience.
I really don't know why they tied the first free KDF ship (and Romulan one also) to a mission instead of progression like this, but it does seem to cause a lot of confusion amongst players. You're certainly not the first one to ask this and I doubt you'll be the last.
A normie goes "Oh, what's this?"
An otaku goes "UwU, what's this?"
A furry goes "OwO, what's this?"
A werewolf goes "Awoo, what's this?"
"It's nothing personal, I just don't feel like I've gotten to know a person until I've sniffed their crotch." "We said 'no' to Mr. Curiosity. We're not home. Curiosity is not welcome, it is not to be invited in. Curiosity...is bad. It gets you in trouble, it gets you killed, and more importantly...it makes you poor!"

I gain power by understanding both.

Unlike for Fed toons, KDF and Romulan toon do not automatically get to select their first starship upgrade when they reach level 10. The ship is rewarded after a certain point in the main story missions. Therefore, it is possible for KDF and Romulan toons to reach max level and still not progress far enough in the main story to select their T2 starship.
For the KDF you must begin the mission called "Test of Mettle". This is the 15th mission for KDF toons which includes the tutorial missions.
For Romulan toon, you cannot select a T2 starship until you have completed "Turning Point" which is I believe is the title of the mission where you must decide between aligning with the Fed or KDF. I think it is actually the next mission "Neutral No More" where you select your T2 starship at the beginning of that mission. Including the tutorial missions, I think "Neutral No More" is the 12th main story mission for Romulan toons.
For the hundredth time in these kind of threads, SKIP ALL MISSIONS YOU CAN SKIP. The only one's I say do in order are nimbus because they're all right there in one place.
The early missions payout better as XP rewards scale back as you progress through the story. By going back and playing the level 5-15 missions at level 35+ you'll make 2x as much EXP.
With the XP event and DoFF/Empire Def Tutorials, you should be able to go from 1-50 in about 8-10 hours of playtime (i recommend not in one sitting) or at least by the time you get to the DS9/4800 stuff, which is when payouts usually turn to TRIBBLE.
Then it's all about playing for the gear you want and unlocking Gamma Orionis/Dyson Sphere.

Imagine if the old Mirror Universe instance was still going on
I ahd the same issue. glad i check the forum despite the troll posts. not that it maters I went from the B'Rel to the D-7 skinned K'Tinga, and still rocking Gr'oth as a Major General. if a D-7 was good enough for Kang and Koloth, it's good enough for me.
now if some young fleet needs someone to work towards getting the 200K credits for my Fleet k'Tinga, let me know

I hope this helped solve your issue.
