Stuck "Retreiving List of Characters"

The game is currently stuck "Retreiving List of Characters". I can login but I keep getting stuck here. Is there a problem with the servers? (Unrelated but the exchange is also horribly slow)

    You're no moderator so I don't need you telling me to do anything! This is a legitimate issue and the servers are now down as a result.

    Actually, it does state to search before writing a bug report and yes, there was a stickied thread in general discussion, then a news announcement in the GNN forum.
