Dark or black ship hulls

Okay so the thread title speaks for itself

but basically Ive noticed a few people flying around sector space with almost pure "black" hulls with orange neccels etc.

I know you cant get this through the materials of the ships but I was wondering what shields actually provide this effect because I want to use them on my fed dread but I have a nagging and worrying suspicion its from the AHG set.

is it ? or can I actually obtain this on my fed dread?

(please let it be the omega set >.<!!!! *Prays*)

    It's the Dysons set.

    Kidding... It's likely a romulan shield + Tholian engines...

    Thats the only combo I can think of that would make such a result.
    Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...

    It could be the Nukara shields. It gives a gun metal grey hell texture, but i guess from a distance or on low settings it could look black?

    Could be... The Nukara set is the only one I didn invest in for some reason...

    I do know the engines get a Orange glow from the engine set piece

    LOL yep I can see how it could be the dyson set :P

    in all seriousness though, Im not sure its the tholian engines I also should make the point that ive only seen this "black" effect on romulan and klingon ships so far.

    its definitely not the rommy shields though I have it on my scimitar on my rom, much green very blocky lol

    Its like an Omega shield effect but its been made super dark..

    is it possible its done it via using material types in conjunction with the shield effects?

    I REALLY want it. if it turns out its just some light reflection TRIBBLE then im gonna cry a little in side haha.

    honestly though cryptic should add super dark hulls etc and let the community play around with the darker colours I think they would look pretty epic. Especially with this whole intelligence ship stuff coming around now because dark ship hulls like severally more material types would probably add to the immersion and fun :P

    If it's only on Klingon and Rom ships, then it's probably the KHG set.

    Here are some ships which could match the description.

    Omega Force - probably too light to be what you're describing.

    Klingon Honor Guard - not available to Feds, obviously.

    Reman Prototype - no pictures available, but it has a dark, shiny blue texture with bright green hexagonal accents.

    If I recall correctly, the Avenger class comes with a very dark hull option, as do the timeships if you own both the Wells and the Mobius.

    Romulan ships might be getting part of it from the reman ship skins.

    This is one of those instances where a screenshot would REALLY help. :P

    If you see these types of ships again, take a screenshot. My guess is it might be the Omega or KHG set. They fit the description.

    All I know is that I would love to able to have black hulls on several ships!

    Why doesn't this game have an Earl Shibes for space ships? :P

    its the dyson set i put one on my jhec and the hull became darker and the cells turned orange

    The black hulls are, for the romulan ships at least, the basic color of the mirror ships. I just had one last night. That can change though as soon as you put on one of the Set shields, like the Jem'hadar one will change it to an all gray hull. Which I kind of dislike...

    Sounds like Omega Force or Material 4 for Fed ships. The latter changes the bussard collectors from red to orange in addition to a very dark/black hull. The Former gives ships a dark, plated look with orange engine trails.

    Nukara gives a golden engine trail, but the it changes the hull to a very iridescent blueish color.

    Materials and Shields can also be mixed to create some interesting combinations(mixing Material 4 with MACO will give the ship a dark, silvery sheen, for example).

    The darkest colored Rom ships that I know of, is the mirror skins.

    Otherwise, the KDF has a decent selection of dark skins as well, as do the Roms with the Reman skins in particular.

    The Feds do have 1 particular dark skin, that isn't to bad, otherwise the blackest non-faction ships imo, are the temporal shuttle skin applied to temporal starship, the Breen vessels, the Risa vessels, the Rom assimilated vessels, the elachi escort, 1 or both hirogen vessels are fairly dark.

    Don't forget, the environmental lighting plays a huge role, in how it will appear!

    Mirror ship skins are definitely the darkest there are.

    I would personally like the skin from the intel ships or the visual from Mask Energy Signature as a hull skin. That dark dark blue.

    I see this every now and then. For the most part its a graphics card glitch that has the ship not rendering. Because of the shield interacting with the hull material. I'm not saying this is the case every time, but from what I have been told, probably about 85 to 90 percent of it.

    FYI for others here, equipped engines only change the color of the engine trails, not the nacelles themselves.

    OP, what you probably saw are KDF / KDF-Rom players and their shields equipped are the Klingon Honor Guard Covariant Shield Array (or set page if you want). Very dark gray hull with orange nacelles and some highlights. Very nice looking IMO. It looks so good that it'll make the DSD passable in appearance.

    Sounds like KDF-side Aegis set. Not exactly black, but very dark.

    lol the engine trail is what i meant I just obviously didnt say what i was trying to clear enough anyone with a brain knows that in this game lol

    hmmm maybe but it was much darker than that I have a feeling it was Omega engines used or at least AHG ones.

    as for the shield it was like a remain shields but without the green effect it applies lol it was that kind of dark.

    Nacelles are the engines themselves.

    Engine trails are the... Engine trails; Exhaust.

    Your Original Post said "orange neccels"... So, you tell me, with that half-brain of yours, WTH are you supposed to mean when your own post definitely says otherwise?

    Some of the c-store ships come with their own unique dark skins available. For example, the Avenger has a purple/blue skin and blue windows; the Andorian escorts have gunbarrel grey skins; and the Vestas can be made to look very dark as well using their Vesta skin with black paint.

    Could be 900 day Veteran Material reward. I use it for most of my ships cause it give them dark look.

    Also the Reman zen pack will give you the option of making your Romulan ships a black coloration.
