This is a brainwave that I want to share and hear your opinions about.
I don’t know if it was proposed allready.
If this is the case, please tell in the comments so i can edit the post to warn people of it before they start reading the whole thing.
My idea, short version:
Being able to put a Boff on a ship and have it besides you during space missions.
My idea, long version:
Who doesn’t have ships at reserve they like, but don’t use anymore because there are ‘better ones’?
Well this will make them usefull again!
You will be able to put a Boff on a ship and use it as teammate, just like with ground battle.
The type of Boff you can use depands on the commanderseat type of that ship.
Example:
Galaxy uses an engineering Boff.
Defiant uses an tactical Boff.
BOP can use any Boff.
This Boff will be able to use the 4 skills you can learn them.
Tactical Boff example:
TT1/CSV1/TS3/APB3
You can still put the equipment on the ships yourself.
At the begin of the battle you will be able to decide if and how many ships you want to spawn.
If you like to play solo you will still be able to do so.
I was thinking about 2 ships to bring with you.
Or you can do the same as the Boff’s with ground and take 4 ships with you (a bit to much I think).
Some missions are purely made for solo play, they will still be solo offcourse.
Just like it is now with some ground missions.
The scaling system for being with more players in the mission is allready in the game.
This can be used for adding your own ships to the mission.
For me, this will be a nice way to be able to still use the ships I liked in the game.
This is what the Admiral system is and Cryptic wants to add it for some season, but not for DR. There is already one use for unused ships, storage for equipment.
Admirals usually have fleets assigned to them. A captain with a second ship as a wingman would probably just be referred to as a Fleet Captain. But under the circumstances, STO is closer than ever to having NPC ships becoming a permanent party member (aside from queued events, naturally).
I use my old ships to store gear in the available slots.... however, I have basically deleted T3 and below ships on all my toons.
Me too. I'd really like to sell them back or reclaim the token, and simply dismissing them is a loss to my wallet. Free storage space is their ONLY saving grace. To repurchase an 'earned' ship costs dilith IIRC.

Greetings and thanks for reading,
tl;dr, this type of idea has come up before and discussed before and nothing came of it that anyone knows of just yet except the dev team if they have such a thing planned at some point.
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
I imagine that once we get the ability to promote officers to Captain, we'll be able to send them out either on their own (sort of like doff missions, but with boffs and better rewards) or as part of your team, commanding one of our ships. Of course, they won't be as effective as our own ships, the game's AI being what it is, but it would be nice to have some backup once in a while.
I'm looking forward to whenever they decide to try it.
Me too. I'd really like to sell them back or reclaim the token, and simply dismissing them is a loss to my wallet. Free storage space is their ONLY saving grace. To repurchase an 'earned' ship costs dilith IIRC.
I see no reason to fly the T1 - T3 again, so dismissing them is not a big deal for me. Actually, I do have a single T3 ship that I kept. It is the Research Science Vessel which has an unusual design that I like. It would be nice if there is a mirror T5 retrofit version of it.

All my ships before level 40 were BoP's so I kept them. Sure wish I had that T4 BoP now instead of the Raptor I eventually took.

Most of my toons lose all the T2-4 ships, though i often hang onto the T1 one.
However, most of my toons usually have at least 3 or 4 Tier 5 ships on the roster, what with VA tokens, event ships and whatnot.
An old idea, and one that everyone seems to like including the devs. Unfortunately they seem to be having trouble implementing this particular feature, at least that's what was said at STLV.
Admiral Katrina Tokareva - U.S.S. Cosmos, Yorktown-class Star Cruiser Admiral Dananra Lekall - R.R.W. Teverresh, Deihu-class Warbird General J'Kar son of K'tsulan - I.K.S. Dlahath, Vo'devwl-class Carrier
I actually wanted the Hegh'Ta, but I'll have a lookie at the exchange.
Oh okay... I think what you meant to state that when you reached level 40 you decided to take the T5 Qin Heavy Raptor instead of the T5 Hegh'ta Heavy BoP. T4 ships are for level 30 toons.
Well... I suppose if you really, really want the Hegh'ta you can dish out the 120,000 dilithium for it.
Here's a link to the Mirror Ki'Tang Retrofit. It is pretty combat oriented compared to the T5 Hegh'ta Heavy BoP because it has 4 tactical console slots instead of 3. However, it only has 2 science console slots compared to the T5 Hegh'ta's 3 slots. I generally like dropping Gravity Well 1 when flying by Hegh'ta and spraying out cannon scatter volley. Just do a search for "Ki'tang" on the Exchange.
my problem is that I'm running out of storage space. too many lock box and anniversary ships. I'm to the point I'll have to start letting some of the other ships go, like the patrol escort.

I wouldn't mind commanding a task force. I've got 46 slots and 43 ships. Some are used for storage but it would be great if I could pull a couple out of moth balls and have them tag along with me.
I've kept all my T1&2 ships because the gang over in the STB channel enjoy having low tier runs. OBERTH OF DEATH FTW.
STO: Where men are men and the women probably are too.
I support the Star Trek Battles channel.
Good to know the idea was allready opted somewhere.
Oh and for the ones saying they use them as bank etc...
Thanks for the suggestion, I was allready doing that.
But its not the most fun option to use them for in my mind.
But yeah... I didn't said "A fun use for your old ships";):D
You are T5. You are able to assign a maximum of two (four, see below) of your boffs to ships in your ship slots to support you similiar to BOFFs on ground. Your choice is, however, limited to:
One T4 ship
One T3 and one T1 ship,
Two T2 ships
Four T1 ships (although I'm not sure you can purchase more than one Miranda, so I don't know how feasible that is).
At T6 you could have the option of bringing one of your T5 ships.
One T5,
One T4 and one T1,
One T3, One T2
Two T2, One T1.
I like the Eng/Sci/Tac boff theory for the appropriate ship class

I already find it harder to store gear on ships with that stupid quick equip window. If I ever use it, invariably pieces of gear end up back in my inventory once I change zones.
Or they could always break it with an update, like the one that brought the hammer down on all those people using their mailbox for DoFF storage and whatnot. Good times, good times.
Being able to put a Boff on a ship and have it besides you during space missions.
Had that idea a long time ago for an Admiral ability (aka command a fleet) where you get 2 of your other ships as 'pets' to command like carriers do w/ fighters.

Greetings and thanks for reading,
Believe it or not, I suggested this a long time ago and still nothing happened, yet! But, I Love your thinking though! Especially with having your own fleet of ships flying around the galaxy with you, talk about some serious firepower, huh? I also suggested the ships having multiple shield generators, therefore having multiple shield rings, still nothing!
If anything, they could make it so you can use them in (Insert Class) Fleet. Equip them all, press the fleet button, boom; uber ships supporting you until they feel like going away. Would also give people an incentive to buy more ships since Cryptic wants money.
I can see it now. An engineering fleet full of nothing but Galaxy classes.

A little map of a small personal shipyard.
Stock, its empty, but you can place ships on your roster around the yard in the various docks.
Could even have a tiny ground map.
Too much work though by itself, but as part of a future reputation system built around player housing maybe?

You can purchase the T5 mirror Ki'tang Retrofit from the Exchange; they generally sell for 1.3 million EC or more, but I bought mine at 1 million EC.
Or you can buy the T4 Ki'tang BoP for 80,000 dilithium if I am not mistaken; 10 days worth of grinding.
I actually wanted the Hegh'Ta, but I'll have a lookie at the exchange.

LOL, 120k dilith ain't NEVER gonna happen. I don't want it THAT bad, tho I still use that Qin sometimes for STF's.
That Hegh'Ta's 3rd sci console has some interesting possibilities now that I know how to use em.

When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.
I can see it now. An engineering fleet full of nothing but Galaxy classes.
