I don't know, I kinda like them. I mean, keeping in mind they're intelligence ships, they definitely have that stealthy feel about them...

Its balanced - if anyone wants a T6 Fed-Cloak ship, they have to buy the most ugly ships in STO. Also, it will be an absolutely massive target on your back for vapers given the advanced sensor carp they come with making cloaks useless.

I admit it, the aesthetics turned me off too. I know that's shallow but I don't want to have to look at that.

Add to that the fact that I don't maintain many ships, and 3 of the 4 that I care about are due to make a free upgrade to 5U and I will only have to pay for one ship class, I do not intend to go for T6. Seeing this only confirms my decision to simply buy the 5U upgrade for my Vesta and only worry about upgrading weapons and gear on the existing ships.

I know what you mean about those fed boats. They look awful aesthetically, imo. Then again, there has been a lot of boats released by cryptic with great stats but horrendous looks. In fact, most of the ones that are worth using statistically are ugly, while the good looking ones that I would *love* to use are basically worthless due to having a poor set of stats or a bad boff layout. Shallow? Yes and while I could in theory do PVE in the pretty boats, I'm not that kind of person who can run a boat that I know to be sub par.

As disastrously ugly the fed boats are, the romulan boats don't look too bad though I would change one or two things about them. The same thing applies to the klink boats, mostly the nacelles don't look too good with the rest of the boat but otherwise they're pretty good.

4 fed and 2 each for roms and klinks? Yay [/sarcasm]

Unfortunately, I feel that most of the set piece visuals are pretty horrific in themselves so I keep them disabled.

But anyway, I'll wait on the stats before making my final decision, but they'd better be pretty damned amazing if I'm going to use those fed boats!

I can agree on the Escort and Science Ship not being visually appealing, but I'll be damned if I didn't throw my wallet at my monitor the second I saw that cruiser!

    I want that cruiser.

Like a previous poster, I shall be using the free T5U upgrades for my Chel Gretts, DSDs and might crack open my Temporal vessels as well before I fork over money for that T6 garbage. Just awful. Even the KDF ships just look "wrong" to me.
Sadly, the aesthetics are a huge turn-off for me so I'll not be trying out an intelligence officer slot for some time it would seem.

Here's a news flash for you: you don't have to get one if you feel so strongly about it.

For me, I'm getting the escort, at least (Federation), and maybe the two Romulan ships. I'll decide on what to get next later.

The designs of the Federation Tier 6 ships is revolutionary, and I think it's good that they're not your "normal" designs.

The first thing that popped into my head when I saw the ships was a line from this video. "No, it's UGLY."

The Fed Intel ships make a ton of sense - both aesthetically and conceptually - if you look at them as something Section 31 would build.

It strikes me as a bit odious, but not a huge turn-off if I approach them from that angle.

Personally I like all of the designs, and besides they do not look federation maybe because (in story reason) some of the races may have a strong dislike for the federation for forcing their ideals on the quadrant. Anyway as stated earlier in the thread these ships could be from the various intelligence services in the alpha and beta quadrants.

Apart from the Guardian-class none of them remotely look like a Federation starship. They're fuglier than the Envoy-class. But I might buy the guardian if I can put a standard blue-gray hull material on it; those TRON lines are ridiculous.

After looking at those ships and reading about the more-and-more powercreep thats going to be associated with them, I think I'm gonna make a point of reclaiming my old 9-console Gal-R, load it with a dusty old set of Mk12 pre-S6 anti-borg phasers and photons, and quite specifically tell the new stuff to F-off.

Am I the only one who thinks they look brilliant?

Yeah, they're a departure from normal Starfleet aesthetics, but so was the Failaxy from 23rd-century stuff, other than the basic shape. And at least these aren't hideous space hotels. I'd say the T6 cruiser is just as similar to a Prometheus as a Failaxy is to a Constitution-class.

The only thing that bothers me is that the whole Caitian hull color thing (hm, maybe the Caitians designed these, in part? Would explain a lot, including the stealth), while nice-looking, comes completely out of left field. What happened to the white-and-black 25th-century aesthetic? Hopefully this is just a stealth-ship thing.

    Yes.

I don't think the look horrible - for another game. To me they just don't look Trek. Good to know, however, that it's the Federation that's behind probing people and cattle in rural New Mexico.

I don't do FED or ROM so those ships are a non-issue for me, however I agree the KDF ships just look and feel wrong.

Everything Cryptic designs for the KDF seems to be mostly or entirely off IMO. They seem unable get the pylons or warp nacelle angles correct, the hull plating designs just seem to be a confused mishmash of Romulan feather themes and haphazardly placed greebles.

It's as though they just cannot seem to be able to wrap their heads around good Klingon aesthetics and wonder why red faction players are reluctant to spend cash on the game. Since the game launched I used to buy everything they made for the KDF just to support the faction but not lately, not anymore, not when they continue to reluctantly pawn off a few token kitbashes that are more often than not gimped performance-wise in some manner.

Yeah, because the KDF ships don't look great or anything.

    ...

Really??? KDF designs are few and far between, but in general they've been made to look amazing and quite klingon according to... well, pretty much everyone I've read commenting about them except for you.

    Some people just cannot be pleased. ~_~;
