Ok so I was not playing when the Obelisk was given away as a mission reward but I did spend fleet modules to purchase it from our fleet. That being said am I screwed now unless I pony up mad EC or lobi points for the Advanced Obelisk now that the regular will not be upgradable?

No, the fleet Obelisk is the 9-console one from "Sphere of Influence".

Yep, only the Advanced Obelisk from the Lobi Store for 800 Lobi (or from the Exchange from somebody who bought one for Lobi and is selling it - cheapest listed as I type this is 112m) has an upgrade path. It's a free path, mind you...being a Lobi Store ship.
The ability to buy the normal Obelisk from a T1 Spire doesn't work it into any of the upgrade paths.
I agree, I understand not giving it to the free ones but ... seriously if you payed with fleet mods it should be upgradable or something to compensate, as it stands I am stuck with an un-upgradable tier 5 >.>

I think you've stumbled into a bit of a grey area.
I'm pretty sure that our volunteer mods are reading this, so if you get a chance guys would you flag this one up especially? I'm sure the devs are being deluged, but this is a bit of an anomoly.
That Obelisk from the fleet did cost FSM, after all.
I'd understand entirely if it was just the 200k FC, but FSM cost somebody zen.
Call me greedy but Turning it into an Advance Obelisk just for the ones that payed for the Fleet ones would not hurt my feelings. Highly doubtful, but I just someone in charge to at least review this and let me know if I am really sitting on wasted funds and should move on or what lol :P
Figures. That's a few ships that won't upgrade for free.
Oh well least my DSD ships will.

I agree that the Obilesk should have an upgrade opinion, because some people payed for it, I do have the Obilesk, for free, but if its an upgrade for only for those who used FMs to gain it fine.
The swarmers are nice, dont get me wrong but I kindof liked the hull.
Well OP if you listen to Cryptics supporters and defenders (Not that Id advise you too). You dont need to be T5U or T6 to do the level 60 content.
the % that can get;
4 mk11 acc2 beams or better
2p borg with maco shiled
3 technition doffs
that and a pre-set plan of how to deal with some of the trickier parts.
a connie refit is still able to put out just over 2000 dps.
i got my own non refit up to 1600 dps cycling eptw before i discharged it.
So....You want these random players to
1.) Have the appropriate gear. When they dont in general understand what gear works for what ships/classes/build types
2.)Know how to assign the appropriate Doffs when there isnt much explaination for people in general as what Assigned Doffs can be useful for their ships/classes/build types
3.) Be able to on the fly attack an ESTF, that in general fails quite often even when players are trying to pass the optionals, with precision and coordination regardless of being in a PUG...Which is the most often run of STFs in general.
All while running in a limited space, limited DPS output T1-2 Connie?
Am I the only one that sees the idiocy in this sort of logic?

no your not. but thats the problem with "logic" you can B.S. you way to anything no matter how... unrealistic.
if I stop posting it doesn't make you right it. just means I don't have enough rum to continue interacting with you.
if people can organise 90 second conduit runs they can organise this.
you are just being blinkered about the difference between a pug and a premade with the objective of doing this.
Thats the whole point genius. Theres a difference between a PUG and a PreMade. You are down right idiotic if you believe that the majority of gamers are going to know more then the simple concept of press buttons+pewpew=Boom. This can be said about the majority of video gamers regardless of their genre choice.
Those who jump into Premades/5 Man Connie STF Runs are people that have spent considerable amount of time delving into the inner workings of the game and fine-tuning their ship-builds/character skill choices. I would venture to say that most of them are people with more down time on their hands then they need.
Bravo for you with your 'Look At Me Level 50 With A Connie' schtick but it proves nothing in the larger scheme of things. Youre not even a percentile when it comes to the number of players who wouldnt know the first thing about putting the right gear on that Connie to make it run an ESTF. And since you and your L33T friends are in the minority. Cryptic could care less about your need to show off. For the majority of Players. The Powercreep does not exist. And maybe if min-maxers werent so damn OCD about reviewing every drop of DPS coming out of their ships. They wouldnt have this issue either.

*blinks* really?
Just checked and, stats wise, you're right.
I didn't realise.
However, it also does require fleet ship modules.
Two, to be precise.
When i was reading the list, it seemed that free ships were going to be unupgradable, while ships that required some form of zen input was.
As FSM have to be bought, at least initially, with zen you'd think it would be upgradable.
Mind you, i can see the problem.
As its identical to the free one, the game may be unable to identify the difference.

Well, at least the Elite Swarmers can be used on any carrier, and are great little "fighters."
oi

5 Players out of how many within the community?
