What happened to Secondary Deflectors?

I thought those were supposed to roll out on all science ships before the end of season 9.

as with everything we want ingame, they got it almost done, and then put it on the back burner to try and get some other useless un needed new toy ingame..

we wont see those for at least another year or more probably.. which is a shame..

Unfortunately, this is the norm, rather than the exception.

Here's how you can bet the progression went.

    Start:
"Yay secondary deflectors! Science ships will be so cool now!"

"Hey that's great, but here comes crafting. We've got to make new items and balanace that **** out across the whole game. We don't have time to focus on only one ship type."

"Oh...ok we'll hold off on making new deflectors for now but we'll eventually get back to it, right?"

    "Sure."

    -Some time later-

"Crafting is done can we finish secondary deflectors?"

"Oh **** no, we've got new ship tiers, new ship classes, new ship upgrade schemes, and Mk XIV equipement! You want to try to get all that together AND revamp a niche ship class with a brand new section of space equipment?"

    "....no."

-secondary deflector guys slinks off to the development dungeon of shame-

You have to get used to things being released in part, and waiting much longer for things to be finally delivered in full. I would fire whoever is in charge of setting prioritizes the devs work on and hire someone new.

All we want as gamers of this game are things to be delivered in full, and finished when they've already been delivered in part, or promised.

Just finish what you start. It is all we ask, and I don't think it is an outrageous desire.

What do you mean "have to get used to?" This has been the norm since the game Launched. We have been complaining about release priorities since Day 1 of Headstart and Jack was here telling us all to hold on for the "45-day Patch." :)
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

I'll admit right away, that I'm not really up on all the current Science Ships in STO, but I recently started a new Sci Alt, so this question seemed relevant to me.

Remembering what one of the Devs said way back when Secondary Deflectors were first mentioned, about some ships getting upgraded/modified visuals to show the SD, I jumped onto Tribble (<sigh>yes I have access) and had a look.

Many of the Science Ships (at least for Fed toons) seem to have a graphic/spot on them for what looks like it would be a SD, I'm not sure if they are in fact any different, so it would need someone who is familiar with the curent ships, and who also has access to Tribble to have a look ...

I know that the Intrepid has had an update and that looks very good, so maybe they snuck in a few more changes?
Oh, hoho hohhhhh, Oh,, hoho, hohhhhh

Geko responded to that in one of his podcasts (think the STOked one), where he pretty much said "too much work" (my words, not his). Where they have to basically go into the database and add it for every Science Ship.

So, guessing from that.............you could expect it something.........next summer perhaps?

Though I wouldn't be surprised if one of the new Tier 6 Science ships will have one.

Just like it was too much work to add cruiser commands? Or warp core slots? Boo-f[REDACTED]ing-hoo.

Actually my only disagreement with this comment is the "it'll be another year or more probably." You're probably never going to see it for t5 ships and below.

    My guess:
T6 ships will probably be designed around it, and that'll end up being the new "science ship special power". That'll end up being the big difference between t5 upgrade sci ships and t6 ships. They dyson which already has it may... may... then be able to be upgraded to a full t6 ship.

IIRC, they decided to hold off on it for (post) Delta Rising, since upgrading all ships for the new gear (or at least all science vessels) would have effictively needed to be done twice if they did it before the upgrade to the new branch, once for the old, once for the new.

I dunno why it's that awkward, but I am not in the business of building MMOs.

It's not a matter of work or lazinees, is the simple fact of greed. Until people stop buying the dyson ships from the C-Store secondary deflectors will never be added to the other science ships as promised.

The end of season 9 is still far away. Season 10 is supposed to be scheduled sometime in 2015, which makes DR still part of S9. If they would be released 1 week before S10 hits holodeck next spring or summer they'd have kept their word on the deflectors.

Are there really people who actually buy the zen versions with real money?
Everytime I see one I check which version they are and so far I've only seen the free/lobi versions flying aorund.

Sounds like an excuse to me, as with creating new ships, they still have to go back and re-do them anyways.

So why not get it out of the way now?

As I understood it - they just don't want to do it twice - once for the current version of the game, and once for expansion 2.

LOLZ, im pretty sure we will keep saying the same thing 2 years from now, right? xD. :D

Im pretty sure they will come with the next expansion. If not, just forget about it, you will never get secondary deflectors. It will be another "look how cool guys this feature will be - but dont worry we will never release it xD". And this is another feature that needs to be implemented as priority, since the more content and ships they add, the more difficult will be to implement secondary deflectors (same for almost any fail on the game). So, i tell you, if at this point we dont have secondary deflectors, i dont think we will see em someday.

Ladies and Gentlemen I give you....CRYPTIC! The worlds largest employer of procrastinators in history! Legend speaks of a mystical "secondary deflector" but to this day it has rarely ever been seen and some believe it doesn't exist at all. What of you? Do you believe in the "secondary deflector"? If so you may try and fight your way through the procrastinators and obtain one, you will fail, but you can try....$25 per try.

Given how much science rules the day right now, and with the absurdly overpowered Particle Manipulator trait running wild, I'm glad these haven't come out yet. Fix that trait first, then go back to never finishing secondary deflectors.

I seem to be a bit slow. What is the Particle Manipulator trait and how is it OP? I have always played science and still end up taking a back seat to vapers in PVP and tacscorts in PVE.

If I can rule the day, I would love to know how it is done.

They wouldn't be doing it twice, if they released them at the launch of X2!

They instead, want to put it off is all!

And the longer they do that, the more ships it means to incorporate it to later on!
