It was actually a really good interview.
It's like since he appeared on STOked, someone gave him public speaking lessons.
I was just annoyed that "THE FIRST (and ONLY - dubious claim) PODCAST ENTIRELY DEDICATED TO THE FOUNDRY IN STAR TREK ONLINE" as the host likes to say at the beginning of every show, never even asked ONE question about the Foundry, and the only comment we got on it was in response to a player submitted question.
geko talks about t6 ships at 46:00-55:00. no real news, but it was pretty obvious to me that he is full well aware of the apprehension many people are voicing.
As someone whom was very vocal about the lack of professionalism from Cryptic (CaptainGeko) in the STOked July 2014 interview, I will say: this PodcastUGC interview was a refreshing change.
The beginning of this interview was more of a TV series (VOY) discussion than about the game. Lots of trivia about the series, plus reflections on various characters and episodes, etc.
It was interesting to know DS9 is CaptainGeko's favorite Trek series.
In the future, I would welcome STO podcasters to host an interview which starts the Gamma Quadrant discussion. That appears to be the next logical step in STO's next expansion, post-"Delta Rising".

That part was interesting. Geko could give a politician a run for their money in misdirection..
The one Geko statement that was glaring out to me, was this quote:
"We're going to make sure your investments, whether they're in game investments like your Mk12 gear, which you've gotten from reps, or your investments that you bought a starship, we wish you'll continue to use those, and play all of our content with those ships, with that gear and continue to do all that, ok. Yet we will still honour the fact that people will want to get more power, ok, and so we will make sure both of those goals are honoured, um and er yeah T6 ships are more powerful than T5 ships, ya, they will be, but um, you don't have to have a T6 ship if you don't want to"
And then he goes on to say that everybody can worry "after" they release the information, otherwise we are speculating and there is no point doing that, apparently..
I already made my mind up, no more speculation needed, but make your own minds up....
um and er yeah T6 ships are more powerful than T5 ships, ya, they will be, but um, you don't have to have a T6 ship if you don't want to"
Reminds me of what Cryptic said about Dilithium during F2P-Beta. That it was totally optional, if you don't want to get dilithium there is no reason to.
Its easy really, just spare everyone all the double talk and jive, just make T6 "ship modules" toss them on the c-store, make them exchangeable as well, life rolls on in the MMO world. It is known fact of life as a gamer, phat loots get obsoleted, you get the next shiny and move on.
And if you really want to really make it more.. Customizable.. Make say 3 of them, one does Hull, another does Shields, and one adds a console slot of your choosing. A versatile answer, and an end to the wish wash.
It was actually a really good interview.
It's like since he appeared on STOked, someone gave him public speaking lessons.
This crossed my mind also... Given the blowup last time, it's possible the outcry resulted that some very needed pointers were passed along, however...
There is also the possibility that, since little really touched on the response to recent changes from players, he did not have much opportunity to deviate from 'no comment/not in the foreseeable future' type answers...
There was the little dig that that the new Doff UI was better than the old one however, utterly dismissing alot of feedback (even completely relevant complaints that it was forced upon players while still unfinished - and is yet to be finished), and then the podcasters (rather sycophantly IMO) seemed to dismiss the large amount of criticism as being little more than outspoken forum posters, whilst presuming the 'quiet majority', who did not post their feedback, must obviously think it's fantastic...
I honestly am not putting too much faith in a change of attitude... In any event, his true opinions of the player base (at least those who bother to share their opinions) is already known and until such time as it's acknowledged, I'm not gonna confuse a few idle platitudes with being proper respect for the player base...
Now I'm worried. If I hear Geko right, it looks like T5 ship won't get any upgrade. He says we'll still be able to 'continue to use your old ships.' But he seems to say there won't be any upgrade for them. "You will still be able to use those." is NOT the same as making them 'competitive' (other than putting Mk XIV gear on them.
Am I the only one seeing the Emperor is trying to sell T5 ships with no clothes?! (close enough :P)
To quote myself from the other thread:
Be afraid; be very afraid.
Gecko is going to have a forum meltdown on his hands when players log on to sto and find their favorite iconic ships are no longer top-of-the-line and that there is no proper upgrade option. All power to the forum deflector shields!!!!

the funny thing is most have been not top of the line for quite some time.
if I stop posting it doesn't make you right it. just means I don't have enough rum to continue interacting with you.
yeah, he does appear to address a strawman argument. i dont think anyone is worried that they will login and find their t5 ship gone, or worried that queues and such will forbid using a t5 ship. but those seem to be the only scenarios that they are willing to assure me arent going to come to pass.
AUCTION HOUSE - "ONLY WHAT I CAN USE" search bridge officers, as a Fed player I can not use a single one of the HUNDREDS of Klingon faction Bridge officers.
ABILITY TO CONVERT EXCESS REPUATION MARKS INTO FLEET MARKS.
RETURN of original "Starbase 24" (part where you beamed into the Starbase) "STARBASE 24" AS A GROUND STF.
ABOUT UNDINE-> they aren't more powerful. just very poorly understood, Very ALIEN, VERY DIFFERENT. The undine excell at bio technology and psionics on an equal scale to Starfleet's Technology. not every foe encountered has to be "More powerful" with a cycle of "Nerf old stuff-OMG new stuff-NERF new stuff". Also, it would be nice if the undine space set actually worked...
C-STORE Bridge officers - PHOTONIC SCIENCE OFFICER (bring him back please)
Why is it that all my crafting materials show up in the recycle bin of my replicator? how does that make anysense at all?
KILL SECTOR SPACE: USE THE SHIP BRIDGES -> GIVE ORDERS TO HELM.
SHIP BOARD HOLODECK -> cenematic movie theatre
Crew deck, there's a poker table and I can't even use the chairs!
MORE REAL STAR "COMMON NAMES" as LOCATIONS TO VISIT/EXPLORE
FLOOR TROPHIES- A STANDING SHIP, or BOLD CREW STATUE.
uhm, where can I find dentarium, craylon gas, plektons, argonite gas, etc? do the materials not qualifiy as *ABSURDLY RARE/PAY-TO-WIN* Availiability only?
Ship customization -> Allow the use of EVERY Part, scaled to fit the size of the current ship. There must be some 30 nacelle designs but I can only chose between 3 or 4? open the flood gates!
SMALL STARSHIP ADVOCACY -> The aquarius and similar "Small" ships should be able to "Act as a shuttle" for shuttle based content.
MORE SMALL STARSHIPS -> Ranger class, fast attack, patrol-scout: these ships need to enter that game alongside the aquarius.
SHUTTLES level 50 and beyond: add bridge officer seating, add an AFT WEAPON SLOT, Add console slots. My starship grew in power, why not my shuttles too? we are talking about anti-matter as the power supply right? seems that Shuttles could be much more than they are now.
Re-scale the romulan fleet. those ships are ludicrously HUGE.
allow me to upgrade ANY SHIP to T6, if I want to come after you in a T6 Oberth - well, why not?
SHANGHEID - JOIN A FLEET OR DYE. Adjust the dilithium ship equipment store prices to reflect the actual value.
SHIP DESIGN- I like perspective as much as anyone else, but it is being way over done. KILL THE AFT TAPER. these are starships not bananas.
GIVE SCIENCE SHIPS the 4th weapon slots, and let them keep subsystem targeting. why? because cruisers have COMUNICATIONS COMANDS, and...
Give tactical/escort craft TACTICAL HELM COMANDS: ORBIT TARGET, COMBAT PASSES, PURSUIT/INTERCEPT, STATION KEEPING-HOLD THE LINE, SHIELD DISTRIBUTON CMMANDS (EVERYTHING ON "FACING")
Well, I'll give Geko some credit. At least he didn't the playerbase this time. :P
I will admit, I really liked the idea of us going on board Voyager. Reminds me of the old Perpetual idea of the Enterprise being the mission hub, which the Cryptic team was thinking about using when Omega Fleet was brand new. So I'll give that a thumbs up.
Tier 6 ships, I'm still skeptical about. But it confirms what I thought recently with Priority One in our discussion that they are indeed moving on to Tier 6. But I'm still somewhat skeptical on the ship upgrade system.
For an example, I don't want to see us being charged for upgrades like we do with Fleet ships. There is too many Tier 5 ships that makes it financially unacceptable to be charged every time we have to dismiss a ship, because we want to go fly another ship when the shipyard is full. And we still do not know how Fleet ships will factor in with the new system, if they are the Tier 6 upgrades or there is something beyond?
Also, I'm not keen on the new Federation and Klingon designs, because they are becoming too non-Trek. Nobody I know can look at those pictures and immediately go "oh that's Klingon" or that's "Federation / Star Trek". This is why we are here, it's Star Trek!
Geko, please just give us an upgrade path that gives our ships at least tier 5.5 stats. That's all I want.
... If there is any.
Honesty, I'm going to be truly upset if it turns out 'being able to make them competitive' meant nothing more than saying like you can still use T4 ships now (only with Mk XIV gear). Not that I'm so deluded as to think Geko would care about my being upset; but he wouldn't be able to sell any lockbox ships to me any more. Like ever. Caveat venditor.

Why just up to Tier 5.5 stats when the devs have stated that the JHAS will be upgradable to Tier 6 starship capabilities at no cost? If one ship gets this treatment, then others will as well.
Still no information on Tier 6 vs T 5. Got to say that even I am impressed by their failure of late. Well I look forward to the eventual announcement and all the crying and moaning from the fanbois once they realize how hard Cryptic "gave it" to them.
See you there folks!

Comments
Lol, or has he finally said something asinine like that the game could survive without the players.
:P
Support 90 degree arc limitation on BFaW! Save our ships from looking like flying disco balls of dumb!
Never meant to mislead, sorry about that. The thread title is the title of the podcast.
Maybe both...

But I guess it's technically right since Cage was first title The Menagerie and later retitled The Cage.
