I would love to be able to customize my transporter effect. Instead of the default "voyager style" we could choose Enterprise, Original Series, TNG/DS9, Voyager, TMP, or TNGMP (The Next Generation Motion pictures Insurrection etc). Obviously this would only be available for the Federation as we rarely see the other species (besides Klingons and Romulans) use transporter effects.

Why only for Feds? I'd much rather have the DS9 Klingon transporter effect than the current one which is more TMP...

Probably because once again, Star Trek is mostly Fed centric, thus we have more Fed material to work with.
But I can see them releasing things like Jem'Hadar, Cardassian, and some other effects if they do get around to it. However... it might be a bit difficult to sync up everyone to register the same Transporter effects. Right now we only have the three types, and they're connected to faction allignment.
I can't take it anymore! Could everyone just chill out for two seconds before something CRAZY happens again?!

AFAIk transporter effects are actually part of the character model. It's why you can beam up and see all three colors at once.

KDF Boffs Fed side might still be technically considered KDF, as they still have the whole selection of KDF uniforms and color pallet. So I guess they're treated as KDF and not Fed in the coding.

just let us choose from a handfull of colours, red, blue, green, yellow, purple, orange, white etc. It annoys me that my Orion dip. boff uses the KDF effect when everyone else uses the fed one
Or maybe leave it alone because there's such a thing as "immersion" (although in this game, that's kind of tough to achieve).
The Federation has its transporter look because that's what it is at this point in the timeline. It wouldn't make any sense to have a TMP transporter effect in the game's "today" (any more than it makes sense to have like Miranda and Constitution ships, or the NX from "Enterprise").
Somewhere along the line, you've got to let the universe the game operates in BE that universe without all the pandering to individual and frivolous wants.
Besides, there's a lot else wrong with the game that they kind of need to work on before they do that kind of stuff.
Although having said that it'd be nice to have a Romulan transporter effect that looks like the Romulan transporter effect from the shows, and not just a slightly modified Voyager one.
Have we ever had an example in Trek, wehte a Transporter of a previous era was used and it had the old effects?
I think in-universe it's mostly supposed to look the Same.
There ate difference between races and factions of course, but that would be due to entirely differentbasic tech.
Example:
When Scotty rematerialized on the Jenolan it looked like the more modern TNG effect, not Movie era.
would be nice if the diplomacy boff didn't use the other factions colours
Bit odd for my Sovereign class to have been fitted with a KDF transporter just for one Officer to use
These are the Voyages on the STO forum, the final frontier. Our continuing mission: to explore Pretentious Posts, to seek out new Overreactions and Misinformation , to boldly experience Cynicism like no man has before.......
Or maybe leave it alone because there's such a thing as "immersion" (although in this game, that's kind of tough to achieve).
It's so immersive when you and 2 boffs beam out with a Federation effect, your diplomacy boff with a KDF effect, and your embassy boff with a Romulan effect.
Like others have said, the effect used is currently tied to the boffs themselves, not your faction. If they let us customize the effect, it would actually be more consistent than it currently is.
just let us choose from a handfull of colours, red, blue, green, yellow, purple, orange, white etc. It annoys me that my Orion dip. boff uses the KDF effect when everyone else uses the fed one
Well, yes and no...... It's not just the color of the effect that's different. It's in many ways tied to faction identifty. Cardies, have their own, etc...
This has all been gone over before and nothing has changed, but I'll throw in my opinion...
It'd be nice to have the choice between all the different transporter effects. Perhaps have the default as the default option, and then unlocking other options as you get the ships to go with them.
For instance, having a Jem'Hadar, Cardassian, or Breen effect would require the player to own a Jem'Hadar, Cardassian, or Breen ship respectively on the character. Other effects like the TOS version could be bought on the C Store for a small amount like, say, 100 ZEN.
That'd keep things within reason it'd limit how many players' transporters look totally different from the next players'.
If it turned out the way I've suggested here, or any other way within reason, it'd be a nice addition, and might get me back into my Chel Grett when escorts eventually become the rulers of space again...
Winning.
It's what I do. It's what I just did. It's what I'm about to do again. It's being undisputed emperor of an empire that cannot be disproved as the most powerful intergalactic empire in the entire universe; I always win, and everything I've won will definitely be won again... by me. It's my signature move, and thus, it's my signature. Problem, Sonic? Yeah, I mean you, Sonic, because you're being beat up, despite your being super. You can't even hit Shadow back, can you? Nope, he's too strong for you. Of course, I'm not Shadow, I'm the Super Emerald fueled fox that's pulling the strings; trust me, the fight would only be a few frames long if I were in it personally. Oh, and here's something for all you guys thinking you can win Last Post Wins 3.0; trust me, I'll be around a long while after the sun has already consumed the Earth while I sit out with the forum servers on Titan. Yes, I mean Titan... that comparatively little moon orbiting Saturn. It's a nice little place in a version of our solar system where the sun is a lot bigger. I mean, Mars will last longer than your precious Earth, but by then, it'll be one hot planet... and I figure Saturn's moon will be about the right temperate for a super-powered warlord. Oh, and trust me, I packed a lot of rings, and I mean a lot. Trillions, in fact, so I'll never run out of rings to power my super form. Besides, if I start to run out, I can just chaos control more rings into my reach. It's quite easy, really. You should try it. Granted, you'll never have the 7 Super Emeralds that I have in my possession, nor the Master Emerald that I've got hidden away somewhere... absorbed into my body thanks to Sonic logic, but whatever. I win. Again. I'm not kidding, either. Just check Last Post Wins, and if the last post isn't mine, it soon will be. Very, very soon. You can count on it. Seriously. By the way, if you're wondering, there's a really great Super Tails sprite sheet out there... somewhere... by some guy named shadow_91. These sprites are really great. Like, really good. Quality. Just like what I like to see in a sprite sheet. Also, credit to Joe T.E., his Sonic Battle style Super Sonic sprites have a great palette for a Super Sonic being beat up by Super Shadow, who's palette is from a Super Shadow sheet of unknown origin, but it turns out they were "borrowed" from a better sheet made by a certain Domenico. Oh, and the gif is actually a custom made super version of a similar gif, of which there are only 3 or 4 copies to be found by Google, and even then, evidently of an unknown source. Yep, it's one of those things. Stuff people have made, spread around, only for it to vanish and you to be the only person who still has a copy, not even knowing where it came from... like, literally at all. Oh, and anyone notice that Shadow's little chaos snap blast thingies are red and blue now? Yeah, I changed it. Problem, fans of purple? Yeah, I know you got a problem with that one, but you can just deal with it. After all, according to all known laws of aviation, there is no way a bee should be able to fly... alright, alright, I'll spare you the entire Bee Movie script, just Google it if you want. By the way, ever wonder how your characters would've ended up if they evolved in another universe? Yeah, that. Think about it. Ok, so you probably didn't bother reading up to here, but whatever, here's a surprise for you guys over at ESD (RP) who were crazy enough to read this: Emperor Nat of the mcfreakin' Terran Empire is gonna be right all along! The universe is gonna go BOOM! *Thumbs up to the insanity*
Oh, now don't tell me you want in on all this! Well, ok. Look this that Egg Pawn hanging outside your window, pointing his laser rifle at you, waiting for my next order. He's doing his part. He helps conquer the weak-minded. He roboticizes the weak-bodied. Heck, he even helps keep the useless people from causing any trouble, but you know what? Join. Find the closest Nataran Empire roboticization center near you and join the ranks, before the ranks find you. Oh, I know, you figure it must be so satisfying to know I basically rule the world now, and you know what? It is, but do you want to know the true definition of satisfaction? Well, let me tell you a little story. One day, you see a brand new event. They're giving out boxes that give old event stuff. Your dilithium is plentiful. You buy a whole lot of Phoenix packs on your main, and open them all. You get one epic token. Then, you decide, that since you have all the Breen ships and don't give a damn about the others, you exchange it for an ultra rare, and grab yourself a Jem'Hadar Attack Ship and for the hell of it, a Voth Bulwark. You open both, leaving the Bulwark in your vast masses of starships as you jump into the bugship and deck it out, deck by deck, into the most awesome Jem'Hadar ship you can. You fly it. You enjoy it. Eventually, you get bored and leave, leaving the old Bulwark never flown... until later. Your main is long complete. Your new alt main, based off some character you pulled out of nothing just to explain away some starship being in service without the command of your dear admiral, is also complete. Mostly. Their reps and doffs are hard at work, getting you stuff. You realize the potential, and head back for your dear admiral, pull the most Voth themed build you can out of thin air, and suit up in your giant ship in the shape of you know what. You head out... and cause all sorts of havoc. Enemies scream out your name as their very life is drained away by your swarms of Aceton Assimilators. They complain to the devs of your OPness when you revive yourself from death every time you die. Do you show any form of mercy? No. After all, this isn't the United Federation of Planets, this is mother frakkin' Starfleet, where you explore strange new worlds and kick butt never kicked before. Oh, and you realize that I just wrote another speech rivaling your own signature. Cool. Oh, wait, that's just the original draft, it is part of my signature now. Oh, and yes, I am aware that I have become a Canadian Regent; one day, sooner than you'd expect, we'll suddenly decide to take over the world and declare an "alliance", and I shall become it's Regent. You know, like the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance in the mirror universe of our beloved Star Trek. Oh, who'll we be taking over with? I dunno, maybe [REDACTED], or maybe aliens from outer space. Guess you'll have to wait and find out, won't we? Until then, don't ask too many questions, or else my Breen allies on Titania might pick up on your -- [REDACTED BY BREEN CONFEDERACY FOR REASONS] Also, psst... keep an eye out for flying Tribbles! Also walls. Big, great walls, separating entire continents apart. Walls patrolled by Tribbles. Flying Tribbles. Flying Nukara Tribbles. Don't worry, it's not like they were on Venus with a herd of Tholians or anything, they just like the extreme heat and brutal weather like acid rain and hurricane force winds as the norm. Oh, and definitely keep your eye out on any two-tailed foxes, because if they ain't glowing, they're definitely an imposter. Possibly an Undine, we caught one of those once in my place once. Oh, and if you find a two-tailed fox that doesn't like the cold... most certainly ask him to say sorry. If he refuses, DESTROY HIM WITH A DOOMSDAY MACHINE, BECAUSE THERE'S NOTHING ELSE THAT WOULD BE ENOUGH AGAINST SUCH AN OVERPOWERED IMPOSTER!

Well if you want to be technical neither the Fed or KDF one is right...the KDF one uses the TMP Klingon effect and Fed one uses the Voyager effect which was only ever seen on Voyager and the TNG movies after Voyager's return used a different effect.
I imagine they may have went with the Voyager one because the TNG/DS9 ones for Feds are kinda generic in fact the only thing that sets it apart from the Romulan one really is the blue color.
Can't have a honest conversation because of a white knight with power
As I understand it, transporter animations are actually mere action animations like the various hand gestures and sitting actions. Each "species" having a different one.
If that's so, maybe it's possible to add actions for each transporter animation to every species, and have each event that activates transporter animations(I'm sure there's a lot) just choose the appropriate one. Like if the script wants your Fed character to beam up onto a KDF ship, the KDF transporter effect activates. Or if your Romulan-allied BOFFs beam up to your RRF vessel, the RRF transporter effect is chosen for them.
You're over-thinking it. No need AT ALL to make it about factions. Just make it a visual option you can choose in your character settings screen. Get a catalog of the various transporter effects we know from the movies and shows, maybe add one or two more, and allow us to choose what we want for our toon, regardless of faction.
Hey, I'm a war-hardened exploring captain with millions of dead on my killboard, thousands of missions, hundreds of massive battleships laid waste at my feet. I'm onboard the most powerful weapons of any faction with the most cobbled-together collection of butt-kicking equipment known to the Alpha Quadrant (and Gamma Quadrant!), so if I want to choose my brand of transporter, by gum, they are going to LET me choose it!!
On a serious note, I read the bit about tying the effect to ships or to the c-store. Bad idea. You can have a ship but no room to keep it, so you have to leave it packed. Plus, that's a money grubbing move (and PWE is already grubbing all the moneys, no more left).
However, it occurs to me that some select few effects should be accolade based. You used to get things with accolades. They used to be minor rewards for hard work. Or... at least for "work." They were a fun addition to the game and gave you something to strive for. When I first started I was keeping an eye on my accolades to see what else I could get.
Now, they're pretty useless. The New Romulus ones, for example, are utter rubbish. Stand on a roof? Really? Look at a bridge? Lame. Okay, I understand they all can't be well thought out or engaging. I get some will be good, some bad, but it seems we don't have any good ones anymore.
So, maybe make an extra borg beam-out effect that you get by... say... winning every sector borg encounter alert. Defeat all Unimatrix ships and you get it. Actually, we already have an accolade for that, but you get my point. Make it borg-related. I got a defera transwarp point unlocked for earning accolades in Defera Invasion zone, so how about a Breen transporter effect (maybe with cold wisps of frost?) for rescuing the deferi hostages 10 times -- a daily mission.
How about if you unlock Ghosts of the Jem'Hadar and complete all 3 doff colony chains you get a Cardassian transporter effect? How about you get a Jem'Hadar effect when you turn in captured changeling (storyline mission) to the security officer?
It opens up interesting ideas, to tie it to easily achievable goals. It engages you to collect the ones you want (in addition to a pool of default choices).
Just some wild ramblings. Take it for what you will.
EDIT: I'd also love to see a few ship materials that can be earned that way. A Jem'Hadar theme, a Breen theme, etc. Something cosmetic I can apply to my ship regardless of what shield I use. The material is already there, in-game, just allow it to be added via ship customization instead of via toggle on loadout screen.
I support the idea of customizable transporter effects for players and our away teams.
That said, I'd settle for making all members of the away team use the player's transporter effect.
It really annoys me when my enemy faction BOff and my Romulan BOff use a different color transporter effect than my toon and the rest of my away team (applies to both FED and KDF toons).
In the immortal words of Captain Sisko: "It may not be what you believe, but that doesn't make it wrong."
Don't believe the lies in this forum. I am NOT an ARC user. I play STO on Steam or not at all.
