another day, another player on sto, nothing new or different. i got into a word play match with someone about crapverse earlier on on esd and i saw what was going on towards the end and call him or her out on it by stating on esd "oh great, epeen TRIBBLE". i suspect that it stunned that one enough to recover senses later because it took something like a minute before the next reply came back about something to do with me but at that point i called em out, and the conversation was already done at that point, obviously attempting to troll bait me into some childish insult match.
to be fair though it wasnt as if you were giving much choice in your own word play about what he should do, you should of expected you treat people like TRIBBLE your get treated as such, especially if they take the bait and then spit it back in your face. this appears to be nothing more then a silly childish conversation that has no place on general on this forum and incriminates both players. if you dont like it too bad but that underlined is already enough to see your no different.

If you just can't, okay, then you may have no choice but to give up on PvP, but I think it's important to learn to deal with such idiots. There will always be people like them in games, on the web and possibly even in real life - let them not dictate what kind of activities you will engage in.

There is nothing to give up in the first place, PvP never was my motivation to play a game anyway. If i want to compete with other ppl, i go do some sports. I don't want or need a game to do that.
For me, a Game is supposed to be fun and a place to relax, i just don't see the need to waste my little time dealing with ppl like that.
Thankfully STO isn't a PvP focussed game and i hope it never will.
It's because ppl. like that, why i hate MMOs.
Being dependent on some spoiled/stupid kids just to get a mission done or to play a game in general makes me sick TBH.

TBH here, your not completely innocent in this little flame fest OP. You DID start this with that initial remark, and you egged this idiot on by continuing to engage him/her. Did they go to far? Yeah, but you helped it get to that point.
This is pretty much case in point why I stopped caring about PVP right after the game came out (I was here for the closed Beta testing and I've been here since then).
No offense, but I'm not sure of the significance of paying a sub in the context of this discussion, because the offending party could use the same excuse to justify his (frankly disgusting) behaviour.
The bottom line is that the person who had said massive rage-fit needs to be disciplined in whatever manner the powers that be deem appropriate. This will not, however, make this problem go away. We, sadly, live in a society where people are not encouraged to take responsibility for their own actions/behaviour and therefore act without any thought of how what they say/do might impact the other party, nor the consequences to themselves.
It's NOT excusable - I am not saying ,nor implying, that it is; but we may as well get used to it because one need look no further than your average Youtube video comment or Farcebook - only yesterday there were sub-human idiots making pathetic puns in reference to Robin Williams' passing . This behaviour has become commonplace. And that's really sad - but I doubt it'll change just yet. Best thing one can really do is simply ignore it.

If you see this kind of behaviour, you can report the player and put him on ignore. If he's violating the rules, he will eventually be banned, and even if he is not - he's now on oyur ignore list, you never need to read his sh*t again.
But if you don't report him, nothing at all can happen - because how are the GMs to know? Do yOu know how many instances there are of each map, how many chat channels the game?

Why not turn off chat to the opposing faction in Kerrat, or in PvP in general? I think other games do that (turn off chat) for this very reason. Tempers flare in PvP. Being able to mock and ridicule your opponent is a bad idea. Just an idea...would save the moderators some time and headache as well.

To OP Next time you get someone like this first report it (with screen shots not cut and paste), if you dont hear anything in 24 hours then Contact the police and I know other MMO's that have been fined and chats shut down due to profanity/racism and anyone telling you to kill your self ect (this is against the law in most countries) especially if the company isnt taking this seriously.
Any game that operates in any country has to abide by the laws of that country regardless of where they are based.
It seems like the offendant lives in the UK so the police tracking their I.P will be pretty simple.

So the fact they did fly in to a fit of verbal abuse is down to how the OP provoked them. If any punishments are given, it should be to both parties.
This is why I have such a huge ignore list in STO, the moment I see someone in chat giving it "QQ" / "learn to play" / "n00b" and various other off shoots of those comments, I know they are nothing more than little kiddies trying to provoke a fight to get people banned.
Good to have the handles of both here, can add them both to my ignore list soon as I log in next.

OP, you don't need to copy/paste a conversation. Just get the offenders name@globaltag, and report for a ToS violation in chat. The GM who investigates will pull the chat log for the period in question.
