Hello fellow pvpers,
Thread subject: Stop expecting any meaningful PvP updates. Make this game your own.
In the current state of the game, you are faced with 2 options:
One - If you want to keep insisting Cryptic does something, I strongly suggest you give up and move on to another game that is more catered to your play style. I'm talking to the serious, tactician & spreadsheet competitive PvPer. I'm sure there are many MMO options out there that will be far more intellectually satisfying. I very much doubt it's possible at this point for Cryptic to do a balance pass. Just as tripwire has already stated in the recently closed thread, it's now the 10th season without any real updates to PvP. I'm sorry devs, I will never accept factions merge, shuttle PvP (dead on arrival lol) and fixing some game breaking powers to be relevant PvP updates. The separation of premade and pugs came close but without a matchmaking it kind of feels like it fell short.
To the serious PvPer that resonates and identifies with the above point, you might as well stop reading here because what comes next will more than likely be incomprehensible to you.
Two - If you decide that you love Star Trek and you would like to stick around for the long run, here's what you can do. First, you need to understand that devs have decided to focus on trapping players on the OOOH OMAGERD SHINIES feel (lmao obvious deokkent is obvious). This means more power creep and more unbalanced TRIBBLE coming out as long as STO is alive and kicking (lol again obvious deokkent is obvious). You absolutely have to make peace with that if you want to keep logging in. Second, YOU DECIDE how this game will be fun for you. YOU TAKE the reigns. Despite all the serious flaws, there is one constant variable that has not changed in STO; Cryptic still releasing stuff inspired by Star Trek lore (generally speaking). You pretty much grab what has been thrown at you by Cryptics, collect the pieces and try to come up with something that YOU THINK can be worthwhile to play as a Star Trek fan or not, the choice is completely yours. One option is to immerse yourself fully into the game, create your own stories. And if you're lucky, VERY LUCKY, something good will emerge out of all this to keep you entertained for months.
Fleets and OPvP have already done this in the past (many are still doing it). Players can organize events, some of them with certain themes inspired by canon. Shuttles attacking a lone battle cruisers; private skirmishes pure Dominion faction vs Pure federation (I am still waiting on someone making a cinematic video of all this). Hobos punishing federation care bears. Those are just a couple of examples. I noticed a lot of casual players swallow that pill and they really enjoy it. Truth be told, I suspect this is how you're supposed to spend your time (and dime) in STO, basically it is up to the players to come up with some interesting scenarios that he or she can enjoy with friends, taking advantage of the available features. Of course, it doesn't have to be always mindful of canon; it can be anything that is worthwhile for you to do.
I myself, have decided to make my B'rel Fleet bird of prey captained by deo'ka my main pvp character and I'm causing a ruckus in Kerrat. I have to thank Admiral Marcus, the casual players, the folks in RP subforum and the channel Star Trek Battles for inspiring me to go down this path. It's surprisingly and addictively fun. There is a lot of role playing element involved, some of it really bad (apologies, RP is usually not my thing) and some of it EPIC (see my
thread). Is my ship cannon fodder? Of course!!! It's pretty much vulnerable to anything, no argument there. Kudos to anyone that manages to blow me up
big accomplishment hahaha; just know I will respawn and send you right back to Grethor when you least expect it. Where was I anyways? OH YES! I choose to ignore the reality of things. The RP aspect and the kerrat banter (the closer to canon the better) between feds and klingons are far more important. That is me getting to know STO all over again, and enjoying it MY WAY. Because that is what I've decided what this game is going to be like for me. It's very possible that I will stop caring in a couple of weeks. And if it comes down to that, I will just find something new and interesting to do in STO. In case there is nothing left to consume, well the product no longer deserves my attention and I stop playing, simple as that. Thats just the nature of the beast.
The moral of the story.... Make this game your own.

Try to make the best of what you get, the closest to content we'll ever get is new ships and toys. Its hard to believe, but its true.

I love to be both heavy hitting, yet high survivability.. How ever it seems like some of the best builds at that are Escorts.. and they are running speed builds..
I seem to have a hard time in flying that style. Haven't been good at keeping my cannons on a target and the manipulations of the throttle in order to do that.
Tried flying Carrier again.. Where I used to have the most fun.. But.... Faw slaughters pets.. The amount of AOE right now in the game is so high for PVP that Carriers are not as fun.. I enjoy deploying and killing with hte pets.. Yet I can't do that either..
And while I enjoy my engi, there are times I just don't feel as effective as I used to feel back when the Defiant-R was the best Escort we had.. I miss flying my Engi/Escort build.. but honestly I couldn't fly that either because I wouldn't be able to fly it as a speed tanking build..
Not to mention it seems like Engi just doesn't have the ability to do the damage it used to be capable of..
So I just log into STO at aproximately 12am Eastern till 2am.. Grind out the 5 differnent Missions I need to get my Rep points for my KDF engi.. Then log out.. and always by the end I wonder.. "Why am I doing this?" Even with the Crafting.. I log in to maybe just set the Dailies.. Because the Idea of sitting there and turning my Thousands of Mats into Craftable Mats makes me want to shoot my self.. Its got to be the most BORING POS I've ever experienced. I don't know how people are doing that and enjoying it. I seriously don't!
I try to make it my own.. but I haven't been able to find anything so far that I really enjoy.. I can't even survive in Ker'rat any more.. a place I used to love to fly and slaughter people, or out tank them..
I haven't been in the mood for Cap & Hold.. And even Arena, after all of the Premade slaughter in the Queues before the change to Solo/Duo.. I still don't enjoy it because now the matches take for ever, and not in the good challenging way..
All in all, I feel lost. I haven't been able to find that PVP nitch that I once found fun...

My question to you is this: how do you increase the player base of PvP?
I would like to PvP. Then I meet a vaper. Again. And again.
Not as much fun as you might think.
I follow forum posts about techniques. I follow the 'PvP Boot Camps'.
Update my builds. Invest. Practice. Repeat.
Vaped. Vaped. And slow butchery followed by vaping.

Don't read it seriously, its harmless Ker'rat banter.
Don't take me seriously either, I'm starwrath's Ker'rat wingman hahahaha

And the tyrannical regime that is now these forums !
Four legs good, two legs bad !
How you make anything your own here is beyond me, they give, we build, they take away or make worse !
No matter what you MUST be grateful for it in a constructive way *puke*

Combine with above statement.

I'm honestly not sure if I even know how to adapt to the new Power creep any more, or what is needed to combat against some of the power creep. Heck there are some things I'll see in game that I don't even reconnize..
