I created this thread because I don't see another one out there. But, if we could have one central place where you can go and see where others have found rare particles, I think that would be peachy keen. Ultimately, what I'm hoping for is someone out there will tell us where, if any exists, they have found a wellspring of rares being given up.
So, please list where you found your rares. If I find any, I'll list mine too.
Unfortunately, I think they've randomised what Materials appear in harvest nodes.
Running the "Japori System Patrol" (Defeat 5 Nausicaan Squadrons) five times as part of the "Tau Dewa Sector Block Patrol" Daily, the three harvest nodes in the Japori system have changed each time; sometimes Hydrazine Gas, sometimes Verteron Particles, sometimes Magnesite Ore, once or twice one of the nodes gave up Z-Particles...
I've also repeated some of the shorter Episodes missions ("Stranded In Space", "Task Force Hippocrates", "Seeds of Dissent", "Rapier", etc.) and gotten the same random results from Harvest Nodes. The only consistancy has been that I've never gotten any kind of VR/Purple Material from any node. Beyond that, commons, greens, blues, it all seems to be random.

I got most of mine with crits on the doff assignments that give materials.
My DOff assignment have never given me any. The ONLY time I've gotten non-Trellium purples was in the the bonus boxes last weekend. Haven't seen a single one before or since.
My Old Blog about things that could and should have been added when I wrote it. Not sure what I want to do with it now. I'll just keep it available now that most of it is outdated.

My mistake... I thought the op was asking about Rare materials, not Very Rare materials. All the VR materials come from the elite queue packs or c-store.
Yes, rare. Not very rare. Very rare we know about (they have their names on them).
Rares aren't quite so bad. They have a halfway decent drop rate. Those VRs, though...ugh is not the word.

Please tell me where they are dropping. Cause I've spent over 5 million on the exchange for them, with the only place else they drop being elite STFs (very sparingly if you are looking for one in particular).

GEEZ, you have to BUY materials to craft now...I guess I knew it but I never really thought about it. Another good reason not to bother with it.

I find that just spamming all the relevant doff missions is enough to provide an adequate set of blue particles for any normal crafting purpose. It seems there are usually 4 per sector unless you've been banned from one or are actively doing it already. Unless you're spamming higher-mark garbage, there's really no reason you should run out of the stuff. What could you possibly even be USING it on? It's not until level 15+ that you get the ability to make anything at all.

I went thru every system in Zeta Andromedae looking for Z-Particles. I got exactly zero. And what do I need them for? Well, let's just say that not all the ec to be made is on highest mark items. Besides, I am the poc for my fleet's projectiles and I use all four slots to constantly be running projects. And since you can only run research once a day, you have to use rare particles in all but the most elementary of levels. For example, there are 12 rare particles required for just ONE part of one mark VIII item.
Ok, seems to be a lack of doff assignment knowledge so more precise info. I do this every day, every hour. A quick Google search on the forums and you would have found this:
You get particle traces when you crit on the following missions:
20 hr Sector/DH Exploration missions with the word "Artifact"
30min-3hr Sector Science missions with the word "Scan..."
30min-3hr Sector Exploration missions with the word "Analyze..."
The 30min-3hr ones give some greens mats on success and 2 rares on crit. The 20hr ones give 0-30 commons mats on success and 2 rares and an alien artifact on crit.
The scan ones have low cooldowns so you can find them all through the day randomly in ANY sector. Just kick all you see in each sector you travel to and you might get as many as 16 going on at the same time.
P.S. I'm approaching my 2,500th post. Planning a very informative post on flow caps and you and will craft a spreadsheet calculator so you see exactly what the skill gives you in terms of boff abilities effect.
Who says I didn't find it?
But, where in that post does it say it applies to the revamped R&D system? Besides, I do those. And you know what I get? Verteron, Thoron, Beta Tachyon. I've never received Tetrazine and I think I got Z-Particles maybe twice.

CERTAINLY not enough to keep my projects going.
Unless you're above level 15, there is no sense in making stuff above MkVI hourly and kicking off the daily project. Even at Mk15, you'll probably craft VR and not UR special items.

There's all kinds of sense in it. One, you get more experience points. Two, I earn roughly half a million ec for every mk viii vr torpedo i put on the exchange. Three, like I said before, you can only run research once every twenty hours (and I do do that).
I've kicked off all Analyze and Scan missions pre patch and I'll complete them post patch to show what I got. I do get every type of rare particles (there are only 4 anyway) on crits.
I've gotten a few from those since 9.5. If anything, it seems like the odds of recieving them, especially for Federation players in Omega Leonis SB, seems to have increased. (Unfortunately for moi, Strange Alien Artifact prices have gone down on the Exchange and the 'Create Console' in-ship Assignment chain is so random as to be pointless... three flippin science consoles in a row, not one of them useful for my ship build.)

Hunh, I haven't seen any myself, I guess I'll have to keep looking.
Have you considered asking your fleetmates to supply some of the materials?

What assignment on Mol'Rihan awarded them? Because I don't think I've seen that myself...

When you're in the command building you can sometimes find a mission named something like "Investigate ruins on New Romulus". It seems to be a clone of the ones you see in sector space, but you only see it when inside NRC.

Ah, okay. I don't really pay that much attention to the 'hub' map assignments unless I'm at the Academys looking for the Kobayashi Maru ones. That explains why I've never seen it... and the fact that typically when I think of Mol'Rihan, I think of the Adventure Zone, not Command...
I'm not asking anyone for the material. I'm simply asking people to say where they found it. :P
Criticals on Exploration and Science DOff assignments, randomly with a low chance of harvest nodes being a rare material instead of uncommon or common. It's all random, there's no real consistant location or way to say will always give you rare materials.

Yes, I know. But, since I went thru the entire ZA sector block and found zero Z-particles, I was wondering if there was a sb that offered them more than others.

Of course it's far easier just to spam queue missions and work on getting your VRs at the same time.

For the sectors where you find archeology ones, look at the map here (And use your science department head apart from the current map assignments):

Not an alien artifact. I presume, it can be up to FOUR alien artifacts.

Wow. Six tetrazine from 13 to 16 assignments. That doesn't even cover one two hour item in the R&D system.
