First of all, thanks to stonewall vanguard for providing the Las Vegas pics. Thumbs up! :)

> New T6 KDF Raptor concept art <

So, how do you folks like this one so far?

I'll personally admit that I like what I see here, but then again I'm a sucker for Klingon ships. :o Looks sufficiently Klingon to me, kinda' mesh between a standard Raptor, the Pegh'qu, the Mogh and the B'rel. I'm a fan of the wing guns. And especially a fan of the circular pipe (deflector? cannon?) at the tip of the ship's nose, assuming it's really an circular element as it looks. Think we might have a hit here. ;)

I do like Raptors, this will certainly be a much wellcomed adition in the KDF roster.

P.S. So what'd you reckon comes next? A new BoP? Finally a true Klingon looking science ship, unlike the Dyson plastic toy?
Personally, I'd like a robust battlecruiser. I'm thinking contemporary submarine, with a Klingon and outer space flavor in the looks! :D Soemthing so much out of the box and yet reckognizably Klingon.

Eh, I just wish they'd give Raptors a different playstyle that sets them apart from other tactical ships. Especially Escorts.

It looks cool, I guess. Aside from the color.

imo the important info are the stats, and im not entirely optimistic.
pivot point? hardpoint distribution? console layout? boff layout? t6 gimmick?
if it turns out to be a qin reskin with a 5% hull increase, its just another of cryptics self-fulfilled prophecies.

Well, the Raptors don't really need gimmicks to stand apart as a class. What I'd change in comparison to Starfleet escorts would probably be the weapon layout - standard Starfleet escorts have the standard 4/3 setup and I'd make Raptors have 5/2 setup, to portray the Klingon more agresive nature and their intent to strike first. That combined with the ability to cloak and generally weaker hull/shield mod. and larger crew could be their trademark.

I believe this is the Klingon fleet material, if I'm not mistaken. I kinda' like it personally, but I believe all the hull materials will be availible on this ship, including my favourite - the Type 3.

Well, I made the thread to discuss and see how people like the general design direction of this new KDF ship.

Without any idea on stats, we can't really discuss how usefull it would be. Though, since it's T6 ship that'll be released at the same time with other factions' T6 ships, I see no reason for it to be sub-par.

The ship looks nice. To me it looks closer to a battle cruiser, with the wide wing designs. Raptors in game so far have had the nacelles closer to the center line. If shown the picture with out the knowledge it was a raptor I would have said it was either a new battle cruiser or a Vorcha/Mogh refit.

I do notice that in the top right of the picture the 4 cannon like protrusions are not present, but a single cannon like protrusion is present along the center line at the front of the ship. I am a little hopeful that will mean a couple of Skin options for the vessel. I hope there will be an option for a skin to pull the forward cannons in under the noise armor. Weapons protruding past the noise is a design I have rarely liked.

I do wonder what the under slung components on the upper left picture will be. Possibly some weapons system inspired by the Reagent class Neg'var?

Over all the ship looks nice and I would like to get a capable Raptor for my KDF captains. But I really want to know is this going to be a Tier 6 ship that will be an asset to the KDF, or will it be a tier 5.5 copy/paste Andorian ship?

Well time to wait for those blogs to comeout before we know if it is buissness as usual or not.

Looking at the views where the weapons are out, it looks like they're connected to hydraulic rams, so it might be a transforming aspect, similar to the DSD's pop-out guns.

What about Escorts that already have a 5/2 weapon layout? No, I don't think that weapon layout should be a defining characteristic of a ship type when there are already crossovers. Maybe a difference in how weapons interact. For example, targeting computers(+acc) for Escorts, exploitation modules(+CrtD) for Raptors. That's not much, but it's a start.

I like it. Looks real mean like a KDF ship should(as long as we can change the color scheme).

I am apprehensive about the stats though. I will be very disappointed if it receives the lower hull/shield mod in exchange for a cloak like the old raptors did. Although I think that is behind us since the Mogh wasnt hit with it.

Visually, it looks like a decent hybrid of Vorcha and Somraw.

    Nitpicks:
-Of all the T6 concept art, why does the KDF, of all races, have the softest, round-most edges?
-I miss the compact, swept-back wing design of the iconic Ktinga and Vorcha. The wings on this thing almost appear to curve forward like a Romulan ship.

Otherwise, I'll probably judge the ship more by how it performs and what its inertia rating is. (Reason I don't fly the Mogh more is because it just doesn't feel 'loose' enough for a Klingon ship.)

It isn´t bad. I think it would look better if the two frontal guns (?) would be combined into one that is in the center.

Then maybe sharpen up the front and make it look more like a sleek agile gunboat so that people actually think Raptor instead of Battlecruiser. (And putting the two wing guns more towards the center might help in that aspect)

I really like that, much better than the Federation picture I saw. Makes me happy that the majority of my characters are KDF.

Actually going to delete a fed I don't use to make an 8th kdf too shortly.

I like it. It has a kind of pocket battlecruiser feel to it, much like the Qin does.

Not sure I like anything else about the T6 revelation, but as far as the art is concerned I like this.

Concept art is alright. There's a definite Vor'Cha vibe to it, namely from everything except the nacelles.

It's hundreds times better than the Federation concept one. Holy **** wtf was that? :D

Considering how large and pronounced those weapon hard points are, that could be the KDFs version of the Kumari.

In one interview Geko said it was going to be the KDF's counter part of the kumari. Although like in the past when he got heat from the fed side he had them gut stuff of what we get or either an unofficial promise that they would get it in a lockbox.

Odds are though its going to be tied to a fleet holding with no discount though and most likely won't have a 5 tact console version because of ppl who still do kerrat they QQ any time KDF gets anything.

That was my #1 peeve from the moment I faceplanted into a cube trying to strafe it. If only we could disengage "Space Traction" and float the ship inertially.

Get a negh'var, use aux to dampeners, or both :)

Is funny when I laugh at people who say a Negh'var can't use cannons well when you can just float it where it needs to be to use them roflmao :)

Back in the day there was this thread with video links and TRIBBLE where this guy basically was floating around a defiant blowing it up and had all the build info with the aux2dampeners and such. That was before they got several hull and shield capacity upgrades, another tactical slot, removal of diminsihing returns on tactical consoles, and a bunch of other changes that were pro defiant but didn't have the negh'var or any kdf ships in favor of lol.

The Neghvar's inability to use cannons well is a direct consequence of its boff layout. With only a single Lt+ Tac slot, it cannot run its cannons alongside an attack pattern, so either you have an attack pattern, but cannot fire your cannons, or you can fire your cannons, but they won't do very much damage without an attack pattern to back them up. The 4/4 layout also sort of cripples the utility of forward-facing attack configs since you're basically writing off half the weapon slots on the ship. This particular config on Klingon ships never really made much sense, since everything about them screams "pointy end towards enemy", rather than "turn sideways and FAW with arrays".

Well to be perfectly honest, I might be mistaken in my assumption that this is a raptor. I'm just getting the raptor vibe from the design and Geko mentioned a new KDF Raptor, so I naturally assumed that this is the one when I saw the concept art.

Plus remember - the raptors in ST are basically "pocket battlecruisers" as another player in the thread already said, so it's natural that a raptor could remind of a more compact battlecruiser.

Well, I do love my Mogh and I managed to get a solid maneuvering with build, consoles and traits - however I agree with you that it doesn't feel 'loose' enough. Especially for PvP.
So I'll be keeping my eyes on this, I've been slowly looking to get back to PvP with my main and I'm not very comfortable in a cannon battlecruiser for PvP, plus while I don't completely suck in BoPs (although I love my BoPs, fun as hell) - I'm not very good is so fast and fragile ships either, so a good solid raptor that is on par with the new stuff in STO just might be the thing I need to slowly start getting back into PvP.

A Jupiter class hit with a stainless steel frying pan. :P
Considering how large and pronounced those weapon hard points are, that could be the KDFs version of the Kumari.

I was actually thinking the same thing, but more in terms of having a similar special weapon like the wing cannons. Stat wise, I'm expecting this to be superior simply because it was revealed in Las Vegas as part of "Delta Rising", so it's probably a T6 ship.
    ddemlong wrote: »

Unless it has a battlecloak or a 22+ turn rate the other escorts in STO will really set it apart from behind. lol :D

Anyway, the more I look at this thing the more I like it. If the stats are around what I'm expecting, my main might just have to release the Mogh to another Klngon alt while he cruises in this. I always liked the raptors, just the selection so far is very poor.

I just know, I just really know, that I'm going to get a lot, a lot of flank for turning up in a STF with my T5 Vor'cha. And I don't care. =3

Bah! Not even close to the flank I'll get for showing up with my B'rel or Galaxy. :D :P

    Hmm, I dunno...
nice looking ship, but feels more like a battle cruiser than a raptor to me.
Maybe its the understated mission pod compared to say this:

    http://hydra-media.cursecdn.com/sto.gamepedia.com/thumb/2/23/Klingon_Raptor_%28Puyjaq%29.jpg/800px-Klingon_Raptor_%28Puyjaq%29.jpg?version=f20f5a1689ad66c80a41535a8009eb08

still, a worthy ship for the kdf, appearance wise thus far.
