Engineering captains have the Oddysey pack, and Science Captains have the Vesta and Dyson packs, but I've noticed that Captains who prefer dedicated escorts are left out in the rain when it comes to having the now standard iconic ship of their own. I don't count the Aquarius or chimera destroyer because one is a veteran reward, and one is an after thought of the odyssey and really just a novelty. So when is STO going to do Escort Captains justice? Any thoughts on this? I would love to see an iconic escort released with the three variations for freedom of play style.
Well, there is the Andorian escort 3-pack. Not a canon hero ship, but it is there. I would really like to see a Defiant 3-pack, with Quads included as well as a Dual Quantum launcher similar to what we see onscreen. Can just be a visual change, maybe with a reduced arc but faster recharge, and some 360 beam array for the third varient - that will give a (mostly) fully canon Defiant right out of the gate, and I would pay good money for it.
My guess is "hope" keeps people not playing but posting on the forums. For others, its a path of sad realization and closure. Grieving takes time. The worst "haters" here love the game, or did at some point.

The dyson pack is basically a escort and science ship. also said before the kumari escort is the fed 3 pack. Honestly there are more end game escorts then either science or cruisers...

You get new tac ships each release with the lockboxes. The last time I can remember them releasing a sci ship in a lock box was the Wells.
I failed to mention the Andorian escorts or lockbox ship because I was speaking with the traditional federation ships in mind. I tend to discount the more "alien" ships like the Andorian and Catian ships etc. When I mention an escort pack I was speaking more distinctly federation ships. And of course a Klingon version for the KDF.
What does your characters career have to do with the ship you fly?
You can fly any ship you want. I surely know what you mean, but the titles word choice is rather unfortunate IMO.
And btw. there are more escort type ships in STO than any other ship class, although it is a Star Trek game and Escorts aren't very classy Trek ships IMO.
Almost any new ship is more or less escort-ish. Even the new lockbox "Dreadnought" is basicly a Destroyer-Carrier.

As someone already said, Kumari would be Tac pack. However, for pve Packs are generally not worth it, as mostly the Tac version will yield the best results.

I did a little research and there aren't really that many more escorts than other classes. this is my count so far and a list of ships included:
Tac ships- 17
Eng ships- 16
Sci ships- 14
Eng ships
- Star Cruiser
- Assault Cruiser
- Support Cruiser
- Exploration Cruiser
- Galaxy X
- Four different oddyseys (the original plus three variations)
- Fleet heavy retrofit
- Catian Carrier
Sci Ships:
- Three Vesta type ships
- Reconnaissance science vessel
- Deep space science vessel
- Science vessel retrofit
- Long range science vessel retrofit
- Research science vessel retrofit
- Dyson destroyers which also number three
I didn't include the Avenger because its right between an escort and true cruiser so its in a class of its own. As far as escorts, all the escort ships except the patrol escort is to my knowledge taken directly from star trek canon. It also should be taken into consideration the setting for the game. War with the romulan star empire, Klingons, Borg and a whole host of powerful enemies. never before was the federation in any show so knee deep in war. It would make sense for the federation to start pumping out more combat oriented ships. After all we see in later seasons of TNG, DS9 and Voyager that the federation has started to develop some of the iconic ships we see today to specifically fight the new enemies e.g. the defiant, the promethius and the sovereign. oh wait, aren't two of those ships escorts? Not traditionally federation huh?
All im saying is it would be nice to see a set of three distinctly federation escorts like the oddy and vesta packs. The andorian set isn't classic federation, they are just novelty glass cannons, a nod to star trek enterprise. I know some people out there are going to defend the andorian escorts but my counter argument would be how many people do you see actually flying them compared to the vesta or oddy? I think ive seen one in the past two months ive been back on. however, I do think they need to come up with some more devoted science ships. who doesn't love some space wizards on their side during some stf's? And it would be cool if they released the typhoon finally for player use., and maybe the Jupiter.

The Prometheus was NOT a escort, it was a tactical cruiser more like the Avenger in STO.
It's just cryptics devs that made the Prometheus a cannon spitting nimble glass cannon.
(The same applies to the Akira btw.)
The only known canon "escort" in Starfleet is the defiant.
It's not known what type of ships Saber and Norway where, they could easily be science ships as much as we know.
HERE is a complete list of all ships in STO you can count the Cruisers, escorts, science ships and carriers, if you want to.
Starfleet was engaged in MANY offscreen wars between TOS and DS9. Please check the memory-alpha Wiki, if you don't belive me.
Starfleet deliberately choose NOT to build pure ships of war because of ethical reasons, you know similar like todays seperation between police and military in some countries.
(that's because the writers of DS9 had to create a flimsy excuse for the defiant, also they "needed" to make the federation more "dirty" to create more "exciting" stories...)
My point was that in "real" Trek, Starfleet ships where all fit for combat but that was just one duty of many.
I can understand that fighting, pseudo Spacefighters (escorts in STO), pew pew, explosions and mindless killing sounds exciting for some ppl., but that's not what starfleet is about.
They PROTECT peace, they end wars, they try to SAVE lives, not kill them.
THATS why Starfleet doesn't want dedicated ships of war.
The Federation in trek is supposed to be a rolemodel for our civilisation, the writers of DS9 decided to reverse that to a certain extend. (sorry for being off topic)

There...I did a little editing for you, still might not be 100% accurate but it's getting there.
Can't have a honest conversation because of a white knight with power
For how much TAC there already is in this game, all the way from this title being totally DPS oriented, to the sheer volume of TAC heavy Escorts, Warbirds, Cruisers, Carriers... there needs to be MOAR TAC?
Actual starfleet(not allied member) escorts in a three pack? sounds good on paper... except we've already covered the variety most 3 packs would with the existing pile of escorts(rotation of both ens and lt.com station in all directions is covered if I recall correctly) and honestly, I'd rather see a KDf specific 3 pack first, or at least some parity bundles for things like the vesta long before we get more federation ships to not use.
I always thought the new Orleans would make a good tac 3 pac... its small, its pretty tight, and has the interchangeable pods (though only seen as torp. pods in the show).. it is said in almost every single right up on it they are interchangeable.. (yes, the right ups are not exactly canon, but neither is half this game so.....)
yeah, new Orleans would make a great tac frigate to give the escort line something a little more traditional looking..
the Tahoe looks so so so much like the intrepid, I see it as a variant to the intrepid.. (though honestly I wouldn't mind it as a tac ship either) and I usually only fly 100% canon vessels ingame.. so me saying I would like the Tahoe at all is a big thing in my book lol...
Well the Defiant seems to need a revamp so a three pack would be good and getting the idea for special weapons and consoles wont be hard u just have to watch DS9. In the show she had ablative armor , quad cannons a ROMULAN BATTLE CLOAK , dual quantum torpedo launcher and a 360 degree phaser array but now that we have the new Craputation system the beam could be an upgraded version of the Craputation beam.
EDIT: the Tac Defiant could have Dual quantum torpdeo launcher and the Quad cannons could use weapon power instead of like the T4 Defiant that uses engine power and the cannon could do more damage. the Eng could have the armor and the Sci the cloak.
Exactly. The Defiant needs a couple of simple upgrades to make it more canon.... a Romulan-style cloak (I'm okay with it still being a console, though would prefer not, make it native or a device). Increased hull stats to represent the ablative armor. Switch one of the BOFF stations to universal. And the Fleet version should get the shield boost that all other Fleet ships get.
And perhaps a special weapon or two (though there are so many weapons out there that I don't see this as very important).
I don't know what the third version might be for a three-pack, but you could easily do a two-pack with the current version and one that switches one console and one boff from engineering to science. Both would still be tac-focused but would have their secondary emphasis varying. (2/3 eng/sci consoles instead of the current 3/2.)
This might be radical, but considering the small crew... maybe go to a 4-BOFF layout like the Undine lobi cruiser has. With a Cmdr Tac, Lt Uni, LtCmdr of Eng or Sci and a Lt of the other.
You guys shouldn't forget that only the original Defiant had a Romulan Cloak.
If i may quote Memory Alpha:
After a special amendment was made to the Treaty of Algeron, the Romulan Star Empire installed one of their cloaking devices aboard the vessel to aid in its mission - in exchange for any intelligence gained on the Dominion. (DS9: "The Search, Part I")
No other Defiant class or any other Starfleet ship ever got another Romulan cloaking device.
Sure it's 2410, but if the Defiant can get a romulan level cloak, then any other Starfleet ship can too. (in universe)

Release it as a Tactical version, an Operations Variant & a Science Variant...
Could have it having:
- Cmdr Tactical
- Lt.Cmdr Tactical/Engineering/Science
- Lt. Tactical
- Lt. Engineering
- En. Universal
Not really sure as to the layout and such, but I was just thinking that it's a ship Cryptic haven't used yet.
The game has been so TAC oriented for years, including the shinies. For some, everything is never enough.
