Research and Development Weekend... is it a secret??

galadimangaladiman Member Posts: 346 Arc User
I had a LOT of trouble finding any info about this outside of the game (Thank you STO Reddit!!)

But seriously, a couple of questions: Where is the notice of this on the forums?

And more specific query: I noticed there was no mention of Doff assignment providing bonus materials... is that the case, that Doff asssignments won't be providing bonus materials, or was it just an oversight?

I was hoping it was just an oversight....:rolleyes:
Please reconsider ARC. Please make it optional, at the least. PLEASE.
It seems the vast majority of your most active players (forum regulars) hate the idea... and while that's a small subset of the playerbase, I think it's an important constituency.
THE PLAYERS DO NOT WANT THIS.

Theres a button in your journal... Clearly labeled "Calendar".
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

Even for events? Dil weekend has been promoted for over a month, cmiiw. Wouldn't it behoove everyone to know about this more publicly, in more than just the in-game calendar?

Thanks for the helpful comment. I return your 'obvi'-snark with equivalent 'my link clearly acknowledges the presence of this information, though in a not-as-easily-accessed place'-snark.

Thats a joke right? It's the single most accessable info in the game... Litteraly a keypress and a click away.

Things have been a little sketchy on the information-on-the-forum front for a while now.

We're lead to believe that STLV has consumed the time for crucial people.

Thus I'm waiting to see what's to be announced.

Both in terms of content and format.

Some people require the 2x4 (two by four) marketing technique before they can assimilate information.

    1.) Goto Home Depot
    2.) Buy a 4-foot piece of 2x4 (or 1.75" x 3.3" x 36" spruce 'cause they're cheaper)
3.) Engage the client with a 'knowledge transfer'

Sure, I'm that guy. I'll own it. Best to keep important event information secret.

They weren't getting lost on the missions, they were getting lost in the zones, forgetting where they entered from. They only had a 25% (1 in 4) chance of picking the right direction to leave.

    you mean 100% ?

All borders let you leave the zones...

Another thread, about how some people need a hand holding, to lead them to their goal.

I guess some people, need bright flashing lights, and extremely loud alarms going off, to say "Hey, you are doing it wrong, this is how you do it."

Or, they could actually make an attempt, to actually figure out what all those keys on your keyboard, actually do for you in this game, heck you might even want to see what the game options can do for you as well, or maybe even see what NPC's are used for, by actually interacting with them, etc.

It's, just that I keep seeing people, saying oh this game needs this, and that screaming in my face, to tell me what to do type situation to often.

When, they should be able to figure it out, on their own.

    Ok temperature has fallen.

How is the idea that promoting and advertising a significant event to the people who play the game controversial?

How is the idea that doing so in the most convenient 'forum' would help both the players and the people who profit from the game not obvious?

How is it that promoting an event that integrally supports a VERY RECENT complete overhaul of a basic system (crafting) merits this kind of shaming?

How is it not clear that doing so for an event in a game where many subscribers who are FTP and might not be engaged in the game on a weekly basis would greatly benefit the game and the players?

How is it that people think that doing these sorts of basic business and community activities is 'hand-holding' behavior?

Am I a carebear for wanting to hear less "Damn, how did I not hear about that??" after the event is over, from people who really wanted to know?

Whatever. Let me pose a truly controversial post: I think we should not eat kittens in a stew. Flame me for that.

ill play devils advocate, and say that half the time, the ingame calander doesn't show anything.. its like they decide to use it sometimes, and not to other times..

weather it is there or not now, I don't know, I have not logged in for a week.. but there has been quite a few weekends that the calander did not denote what the weekend was until the weekend was upon us. (kind of like getting a crafting blog a few hours after crafting was released into the game) lol...

I admit, that was true 6 months ago... No argument there at all... But for the past 6 months, it's been up to date, well ahead of time, whenever I have looked at it.

But let's not get started on the blogs... Those are more rare than me winning the lottery recently.

Don't make fun of that... Was at a course once, where a guy around the same age as me then (14) was staring at the keyboard for 5 minutes, before raising his hand, asking "where is the 'k' key?".

The dilithium weekend was not promoted a month in advance. people knew about it a month in advance and talked about it because it was on the calender, but the blog came out the day it started. there literally was no advanced promotion.

we will probably get a blog tomorrow. i will agree that it seems stupid to not give people any advanced warning for those that dont look at the calender but it seems their blogs are running a bit behind right now because of internal office issues.

the only reason the crafting weekend was not there a month in advance is purely because the whole crafting system is less than two weeks old.

Cryptic does a poor job of communicating at the best of times.

I have to say that Cryptics Marketing department job got harder when they switched all the marketing efforts to ARC. The new website is designed to work 'ok' within the ARC framework, but it's buggy as heck with everything else.

Every page looks the same. It's not Star Trek - it's Pachinko Game Center.

Hopefully they will devote more effort with X2. LoR was marketed very well, and I think that's the style they will continue with.

Had a friend who did tech support in the early days.

His favourite, and surprisingly frequent, question was 'where's the 'any' key?'
