After the July 17 patch, the maximum resolution for the Mac client has been capped at 1600x900. This is now the maximum option in the Display drop-down menu. Previously, options went as high as the native resolution for my late-2013 27" iMac (2550x1440). In both Windowed and Fullscreen mode, the maximum resolution is capped at 1600x900.
(Cross-posted from the Support > PC, Network, and Other Technical Issues > Mac: PC, Network, and Other Technical Issues > Game vs. Native Resolution thread)
Aye, mine is capped at 1600x1000 (16:10); I was using 2560x1600 previously. What seemed additionally odd was that it was working at 2560x1600 immediately after the patch/update. However, while in the middle of converting 100's of old data samples to new crafting materials, the game client crashed. On restart, it appeared to update the launcher itself (tgUpdate 1.12?) before launching the game client. After that point, I was stuck with 1600x1000 as the highest available resolution. Changing between full screen and windowed had no effect, either.
Digging around, I found a config file that listed the max at 1920x1080 (e.g. "full HD"), however, a) the Displays preference pane doesn't list that resolution for this monitor, so that's not an option for me anyway, and b) changing or commenting out that entry in the config appeared to have no effect, so it's either being ignored or overridden by something elsewhere.
Coincidentally, 1600x1000 is the max native resolution for a 21.5" iMac, which makes me wonder if a dev or someone does dev/test work on a 21.5" iMac and only the settings that work on that model were carried into the build.
Alternatively, I'm wondering if the game client is somehow truncating the list of supported resolutions to the physical number of variants we see displayed.
Devs, please note my current setup:
Mac mini server (mid 2011)
Intel Core i7 quad 2Ghz
8GB RAM
Intel HD Graphics 3000
Apple 30" Cinema Display
OS X 10.9.4 Mavericks
Mac mini Server (mid 2011): 2GHz Intel Core i7, 8GB 1333 MHz DDR3, Intel HD Graphics 3000 512MB
OS X El Capitan 10.11.2
I also have the issue with the resolution being capped at 1600 X 1000.
It also appears that the option to run a 30 Hz screen refresh rate for all the resolution settings has disappeared as well. Now I can only run 60 Hz for all.
AND, on a related note, the game seems to be rendering better, BUT all the animations seem set on hyper-speed, to the point that my character runs instead of walks. Along with this, everything is very jerky, and I get constant rubber-banding both WIS and in space.
Hello, I am having the exact same problem. The game is too blurry (and hurts my eyes) at this low resolution setting, will come back to the game once its fixed.
I have the same problem. My native resolution is 1920x1200
On top of that... my quad core mac pro has never been able to have the graphics sliders above 'low/medium' without freezing, especially bad since season 9.
I have the same problem, my previous resolution was 1900*1080, since the update it's down at 1344x840 and no other efficient resolution are available in the display menu of STO. :-( Now i'm having a very bad game experience)...
Also locked in at 1344x840 and I previously had 1900x1080. At that size the game is unplayable for me. The HUD interface windows alone take up about half the screen at 1344x840 and I can't scale them down.
Another user also noticed that anti-aliasing was limited to x2. The fix is similar.
In Finder, choose Go from the menu strip, and at the bottom of the menu is Go To Folder. Specify:
~/Library/Application Support/Star Trek Online
Open the file named "config" in TextEdit or another plain-text editor. You might need to right-click (or Ctrl+Click if you don't have a two-button mouse or don't have two-finger tap enabled) and Open With.
Scroll about half way through the file to the section starting with [macdrv]. At the end of this section is ResolutionMaximum and ForceMaxSamples.
Stick a semi-colon ( ; ) at the beginning of each line, like this:

Excellent instructions, worked perfectly. Thanks so much!
I have always had problems with the game incessantly crashing at high graphic settings. I'm on an early 2013 iMac 27" - 3.4 i7 - 32GB - GTX 680MX 2048 MB but if my render quality or graphics detail sliders are above the lowest edge of medium, the game crashes like clockwork, often within three seconds of the game loading.
It sounds like we all have resources to spare; why can't the game handle it's own graphics with more than sufficient hardware to run on?

Yes, I suffer from the same issue. And, yes, I have found the same "solution" works for me.
I can play the game, sure... but, I cruise on really low graphics quality, no stereo sound, and now, this resolution problem. Not exactly ideal.

Thanks for that, "worked first time"; nice to have native res back. Now I'll have to reset a few UI's I had to resize on Thu, but that's easily done.
Also, thanks to whoever updated the topic with "investigating"; nice to know someone's looking into the "root cause".

Why, that's....
CRAPTASTIC!!!!!

3.5 GHz Intel Core i7
16 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 775M w/ 2GB cache

You can render Pixar movies on that bad boy... so that makes total sense, eh?
27" IMAC no native screen resolution setting.

If and when this is fixed I'll be back on STO.
