I have this same issue. I was fighting Klingons on a space station in the Briar Patch. This has happened almost every ground mission I have had. I tried the drivers and direct x and neither worked. Someone please fix this!

I'm getting this too, on an ATI Radeon 5770. It's very annoying.
I keep getting this as well. Seems to have just started tonight, though, so I wonder what has changed to cause it for me. ATI Card here as well, maybe a driver issue or something.
I also have this problem which started over the last month or so. It could be related to the new ATI 10.6 drivers but I'm not sure. I can't even complete a ground mission because too much combat causes this error and a crash.
Specs:
Core 2 Extreme QX9650

nvidia 780i motherboard
ATI 5970 with 10.6 drivers
Creative X-FI with latest drivers
Windows 7 x64
I have never really had too many issues with star trek online. It has been an awesome game. But I do not understand what is going on here. I reinstall it several times it lets me log in once at half resolution which ive never had to do that before even with my card. I disabled my antivirs and firewall just incase that is the issue. It does not seem to be a hardware issue. I would really like to know what is going on here.

If you have the game set at half res, this is a current known issue yet to be fixed properly. To get back to full res, in your chat window type /renderscale 1.
This issue prevents me from even logging in to the game
As soon as the game launcher loads the game it crashes
And I have a tourney to organise.
Did you by chance upgrade to the latest 332 Nvidia drivers? I did that and was getting D3D errors everywhere. As soon as I launched STO it would crash and give me errors. I messed around with it for a whole day and couldn't get it to work. I eventually rolled back to the 331 drivers and everything was perfectly fine again.
been having this problem for a while now.. thought it had something to do with tridef.. however, they say its not them.. so I searched it on google.. low and behold the only info I can find on it comes from sto or neverwinter. lol.. good ole cryptic..
so yeah, im gonna doodle around with it a little, and see if I can get it running right, (cause you know you cant count on them for any help).. but if anyone knows work around, it would be greatly appreciated..
im running an xfx amd r7880, 8 gigs of ram, a 3 gh processor and im liquid cooled..

Crashes on ground missions left and right.
In my case, I had to turn off Dynamic lighting in the video option.
Others recommend also turning off post processing.
There's a significant difference in GFX with it off, but at least it doesn't crash anymore.
I'd suggest trying leaving those options off.
At least until we hear the issue has been fixed (they're working on it)
