With the new Odyssey uniforms in 9.5 I'm extremely surprised to see that there wasn't a skirt option added along with the new content.
I know there's probably already been several posts on this but I'd like to see how many people would like to see an addition of an Odyssey skirt option. The Skant is still one of the most requested uniform options I think, every time there's some kind of uniform update, people are always asking for the Skant. And with the new Odyssey Long Jacket, I can see it working really well just being a little longer to be a Skant.
So who's with me, lets try and get as much support for an Odyssey Skirt and Skant going and maybe, just maybe we'll get it. (Obviously we'll need some sexy new boots to go with the new skirts) :P
A 24th century military shouldn't have a skirt in the first place, but if there will be one than I wan a skant as well.
Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though. JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

Why not? A skirt is perfectly functional for most work on a ship. I don't need to keep my legs protected from the environment on the bridge after all. Armour for when you're expecting unpleasantries, skirts for all other times.

Real life military are phasing them out to join the 21st century, the only reason they are in STO in the first place is because they are in TOS and S1 and S2 TNG, then Starfleet also phased them out.

The only reason that desk military careers and coast guards phased them out is because of their feminist social stigma as 'oppression'. After feminism dies down before Starfleet is formed, skirts will not only be socially acceptable to wear by everyone, but will be permissible by Starfleet dress code as well.
Yeah that totally looks phased out right there,
Next.
That's art from STO. Art from STO that still makes me facepalm. I'm surprised they haven't put that back into use, have you see the rest of the Arc storefront?
The questionable logic of that Vulcan's fashion sense is irrelevant to the point artan42 was making -- find a screencap of someone wearing a skirted DS9 or TNG movie era uniform...you won't. They phased them out on the shows because they already looked dated by the late '80s/early '90s.
Now that said, I do think an Odyssey skirt would be a great addition to the game. We already have skirted uniforms, it's a shame one that perfectly matches the jacket wasn't added when the uniform was updated. The academy skirt works (and is probably the best looking skirt in the game), but lacks the piping the jacket has.

Um, no militaries are phasing them out because the point of uniforms is that they are..... Uniform, having separate male and female uniforms makes them biniforms or something.

I think people have wanted an Odyssey Skirt ever since the pictures of the archetypal female Romulan came out and introduced the uniform. I think they used a Sierra model on that one.
I would like to have one come out with the new variants, just so we can have even more options.

this right here is acctually wrong lol military females can still wear skirts/dresses not out in the battle front but on bases and ships i'm em army so i know female dress uniforms have skirt/dresses.
As always, I fully support the skant. And having a matching skirt for Odyssey uniforms, why not?

A lot of you are comparing the Star Fleet uniform code to current military uniform codes.
Just want to point out that Star Fleet isn't a military. While it is tasked with defending the Federation, it's not a militaristic organisation. It's prime focus is exploration and scientific research.
And yes, what with all that's been going on in the last 30 odd years or so in the Trek universe what with the Dominion War and all that followed after it leading up to 2409, things have gotten pretty hairy. And while skirts are probably not considered appropriate dress for any kind of militaristic mission, they are perfectly acceptable for ship crews.
Any kind of Star Fleet officer sitting at her station has no need to wear trousers, it's perfectly acceptable for her to wear a skirt or dress if the option is available. Officers beaming down to a planet on a survey mission where they'll be climbing over terrain or even some kind of tactical exercise are going to need to wear trousers as it's just not practical to wear a skirt in these kinds of situations. And this is why I'll be using the Odyssey Tactical uniform for my away team.
There are skirt options already in game, and from TOS up until about 3rd season of TNG, skirts were a staple of the Star Fleet uniform for females. The lack of a matching Odyssey skirt and boots doesn't make much sense to me considering the new Odyssey uniforms they're releasing in 9.5. I'd really like to see them put those options in, as well as the skant. Now as for the skant, I don't think the ridiculously short version as seen in TNG would work, but something in the Odyssey style and at the length of the Academy skirt would be great I think.
I'll echo the claim that the Starfleet Academy skirt is practically perfectly suited to be an Odyssey Uniform skirt.
The cut is the same, the material feel of the texture matches. It's what I've been using and I've been extremely satisfied with the result.
I'm surprised Thomas actually didn't make mention of it in the blog. I'm in approval with the Odyssey getting its skirt version officialized and made available without needing to buy the Academy uniform (which new players start with now in the tutorial (but lose later?), so, maybe it shouldn't be a Z-Store purchase now?
Yeah, the fact that the Academy uniform is a Zen purchase is a little off. And also, I'm currently using the Academy skirt on my character with the Odyssey tunic, it does match really well. I can imagine if they ever did an Odyssey skirt it would be a similar style but with maybe some piping like the tunics have.
I said phasing out, not banned. Also there other countries with other militaries in the world.
I have the latest updated version of the AR 670-1, no talks about the skirt being phased out for the army??? unless I totally missed it, its quite possible
that being said, skirts are pretty commonly used in STO for multiple uniforms including the academy version

My thoughts exactly. Though I'd also let the guys where skirts too. No reason to limit it to the ladies, and you just can't play the bagpipes properly without a good pleated skirt either.

Ha! If we got a kilt we would definitely have to have a bagpipe emote!

So they claim at least.
They do still have a naval style chain of command and rank structure, so naval style rules and regulations certainly make sense.

I would definitely agree, it's a bit of a disappointment to not have odyssey skirts (granted, though, I don't think most of my female boffs would wear them. My Tac's wear combat uniforms and the engineers don't wear skirts because ladders and Jefferey's tubes.

So, NO.
That claim is patently wrong.

It's a valid claim, an organisation can be militaristic without being military. Look at the police, or the salvation army, or the scouts.
