So you've got that Varanus, and you want to drop out those Repair Platforms - for their boosts as well as launching drones to help heal folks. You're running with the best of intentions, but are you actually trolling - unintentionally?
There was a recent thread with ISE tactics that got me thinking about this - cause it's not something that I really thought about too much before. I rarely run my Tacs, and when I do - I almost never use GDF. I'm too survival orientated to do that GDF dance. So it's not something that I really thought about it. I think I joked once about it, but I didn't really think about it with that joke.
Dropping out Repair Platforms...the hull-repair drones...they're going to cause problems for Tacs that are trying to do that GDF dance.
The guy dropping them out - he's just trying to keep folks alive - trying to keep himself alive. Trying to do a good thing...but is he trolling the Tacs on the team by doing that?
If there's only one Tac on the team, do you drop them out to help the other four even though it could hurt the Tac? If there's four others on the team that are Tac, do you not drop them out at all?
Its not trolling if you just heal people, its trolling if you heal the tac and you know he wants to get his gdf.
In ISE a tac rom, cloak before the 1st cube blows up and his hull drops to %30, I now can get my GDF.
If im not on ts3 with the team i activate gdf, if im with them on ts3 i tell them not to heal me, fly to 2nd cube and activate.
ps: You getting heals in stf's from other people ?? I think the chance for that is about 1% so you have a 99% troll chance.
as an engineer in an escort who ALWAYS gets agro no matter how good the tacticals in my group are.... yes, drop the heal. there are other ways to increase damage then relying on the most over dramatized space captain skill in the game. besides, with how much damage you can take if you arent paying attention, i seriously doubt your heal rate is high enough to keep them from near killing themselves if they really want to pop GDF. if anything, i'll make sure they stay alive long enough to actually make use of it, as i do believe it no longer stays on you when you die. therefore a heal is very much useful after such a maneuver. even a decent tactical should know good ways to hurt themselves to activate GDF, and as for the rest of the players outside of the tacticals, i'd rather be healed then have some other guy in a pug who probably doesnt know what he's doing very well, trying to get his health juuuuust right.
that's also assuming that every tactical you ever meet is trying to use GDF. my romulan tactical (my only tactical) uses it as an extreme measure only. then again, that character is the definition of a glass cannon. attempting to use GDF usually results in an insta kill.

That's the thing, you don't have control over the drones. You drop out the platform - those folks that are in range or fly into range, will pick up a pair of drones. You can drop out up to five platforms (or is it four, not on that toon any more - was on him and that's why it came to mind). After a period of time, folks in range of them/etc - will pick up a second pair of drones.
They'll hull heal the target they're attached to when they feel the target is in need of healing. It's not something where the player dropping the platform assigns the drones to a player - they're not like pets. And the player has no control over when the drones will heal their target.
So it's not a case of being something along the lines of the player actively tossing heals out to the Tac to TRIBBLE with their GDF...
It's something where you might have that group of five, with say a Sci in the Varanus - another Sci and an Eng and perhaps a pair of Tacs. You drop out that platform, and all five players if they're in range or fly by will end up with a pair of the drones. Having them out there to heal the three guys could cause problems for the two guys...
The platforms also provide an AoE MES as well as a bonus to defense...so they can be helpful in other ways.
But those drones - could mess with folks trying to GDF - unintentionally (though one could also drop them out with the intent of messing with folks - I'm more interested in the unintentional angle and what folks that run a Varanus do and don't do - is there a threshold of Tacs - do they warn the Tacs to avoid the area where the platforms are - etc, etc, etc)...
Personally, I welcome heals even on my Tacs; I'm not going to complain if you actually try to work as part of a team. Let's face it: if not getting your GDF rolling in an ISE (in a PUG, which you've mentioned favoring) causes your whole team to fail at the optional, there are probably more things wrong than someone bothering to heal. Similarly, my Romulans won't complain when you pass Extend Shields in CCE, even if that means I don't get healing credit for my [Console - Universal - Shield Absorptive Frequency Generator] (since my shields refuse to drop below 90%); guess what, your heals helped free up my own for other teammates. Even if your heals prevent me from getting everything just so, it's not going to kill me... literally, since they're heals and all.
So yeah, not trolling, unless you're in a premade that actually told you they don't want heals. Now if you wandered off and killed a random Generator before TBRing the Nanite Spheres into the Transformer... that would be trolling.
With each passing day I wonder if I stepped into an alternate reality. The Cubs win the world series. Donald Trump is President. Britain leaves the EU. STO gets a dedicated PvP season. Engineers are "out of control" in STO.

That. What you want to do is... umm... misguided assistance at worst.
Personally, I would run it, and if anyone complains then recall them.
Good Joke, team-heals in STFs. I pug far more than I go with premades, and you wont find much heal going on, even from ppl flying ships screaming "healmachine", like any Sciship with more than a cmdr.sci that doesnt use any CC, it should have heal. And it certainly wont need it for itself.
Baseline is what Bones said, if someone says he wants GDF, dont heal till he got it, if he doesnt say anything, heal heal heal.
I've seen trolling, lots of it, intentional or otherwise.
Dropping a repair platform and the Tac that just wants his GDF SO DANG BAD!!! happens to get within range and pick up a pair, is not any form of trolling.
Fun Fact: If the Tac is able to GDF, any heals post-GDF don't count, since it doesn't reduce the damage. GDF's damage is locked at the time that they activate it.
lol Of all the forms of trolling I have seen in this game, you can rest assured that this ain't one of them.
If a certain tac. has an issue activating GDF because of that, let him speak. If he asks you to don't do it now, or not do it around him - then it's ok. If people feel trolled while maintaining the average communication level in STO (which is none), then it ain't your problem - you're just doing your job.
If you don't tell me not to heal you, I'm going to heal you.
If you tell me not to heal you, I will try to keep that in mind, but I make no promises.
That said, I don't run dedicated healers in PvE. If I use one of my heals on you, it was because I was feeling generous. I usually have enough agro I need them for myself.
I once again match my character. Behold the power of PINK!
GDF TRIBBLE aren't going to be pugging, and if they are, they have no right to complain about someone healing them. In a private match, you can discuss tactics first.
If my ship is so badly shot up I can use GDF then to be honest I'll be happy to accept a heal of someone else! Saves me needing to use one of my own after all so I can concentrate on shooting and not worry about getting caught with my heals on cd.
If someone has issues with other people in a team game actually using teamwork and looking after their teammates then they are playing the wrong game! Solo play is that way dude ->....
