I have three characters, and somehow one of them no longer has the option to assign the trait Hot Pursuit. The trait is just gone. It does not show up under available choices.
I have tried everything I know to do, shutting down computer, removing all traits, then shutting down computer. Nothing makes any difference. The trait does not show up in my characters Available list. Looks like the problem is on Cryptic's side.
Fed/Rom Eng - trait is missing, though I have it.
KDF Sci - trait is present and I can select it
KDF/Rom Tac- trait is present and I can select it.
I even thought I was nuts and had mistakenly forgotten to purchase the trait for one character. So, I purchased it again. When I tried to use the trait (open the box) I received a message indicating this character had already activated this trait.
Well, if that's so, where is it? Anyone else have this problem?
To replicate:
1. Log into my account.
2. Notice that my ENG character is at the command center in New Romulus.
3. Open the trait windows after pressing "u"
4. Notice the trait is missing.
5. Purchase the trait from the Exchange.
6. Double click on the trait in inventory and receive the error message - already activated on this character.
OK, it looks like the Hot Pursuit issue only occurs with Reman Engineers as far as I can tell. I've gotten the issue written up and sent on to be fixed.

Haha. Just my luck. Thank you for investigating so quickly.
OK, for everyone with this issue, go to your Skills window and look at the bottom right corner.
You should see "Skills Invalid" along with a "Respec" button. Click the button and respend your skill points. This will not cost you one of your earned respec tokens and will allow you access to the Traits.
Yes, we don't communicate this well enough in the UI, but that's being worked on.
Perhaps Reman engineers are more vulnerable to whatever data mix up requires the respec to fix, because I had this happen with two test characters.
In any case, just use the free respec and it'll fix characters experiencing this issue.

Could you please elaborate on the colored statement. Should I look at all my characters on a weekly basis to make sure traits aren't missing or just get in the habit of checking the respec for "Skills Invalid"? How often is this problem occurring, and what causes the data problems? Is it something I did?

In all my past experience with this, I've never before had a test character have the issue at the same time a player reported it with the same type of character, in this case a Reman Engineer. Hence my wondering if there might be something about Reman Engineers with this Trait.
Basically, the issue is that STO characters are really complex. The one "character" includes the captain, Boffs, Doffs, ships, skills, traits, etc. all in one package. As such, occasionally some data corruption slips in and the way to fix it is to run a respec. In these situations the game forces you to respec and grants a free respec token so you don't have to spend any of your earned ones. Currently, this is only communicated on the bottom right of the Skills window.
It's not anything you've done. Rather it's just the nature of the proverbial beast. We're working on getting the UI to communicate this better. Until then, it's a good idea to just check your Skills window occasionally.
My main character can't seem to acquire new traits, wether I buy them from the exchange or acquire them through rep tiers. I can't find them anywhere in my available traits:mad:. It might be worth noting that he is a Reman Engineer. Verchi@captainfan84

Thank you for the nice reply. I'm glad to know I didn't break STO. I can't believe a test character has never been able to replicate a currently reported issue. I feel for the STO bugfix team if they have a similar experience during their day. Perhaps that's why STO is so buggy. No one on the bug hunting team can locate the bugs we report.
I just found another person experiencing problems with the same "trait missing" issue. You helped him, but I didn't see you mention anything about this fix. I found it and linked it for him.
Since this "trait missing" is a known issue, perhaps it's best to add it to the known issue list and include the fix you discovered. Reman characters are popular.:)
I'm missing a ton of traits on my reman KDF tactical.
Hunter's instinct, Pack Leader, Intimidatadating Strikes, Hot Pursuit, and Firearms Specialist.
Not absolutely sure about the firearma specialist as I think I got it a very long time ago but the others I know for sure I unlocked.
Basically my reman has been reduced too only the base traits you start out with.

Have you checked to see if the character needs a mandatory respec?
As noted upthread, check the Skills window at the bottom right. If you see a not that your skills are invalid and Respec button, click the button and respend your skill points. It won't cost you any of your earned respec tokens and should fix the issue.

Cryptic-->feel free to log into my account and see for yourself.
Guys, I haven't played since this bug. I'm really waiting for some relief here. Thank you.
Also appears that other people are missing traits as well. Let's move this up the ladder if possible.
Can you provide the name@handle for this character please?
Can you provide the name@handles for the affected characters and which trait(s) each is missing?
There is only one engineer on my account @mackermomo
Tukertu@mackermomo
