Half Resolution

Like the title suggests I am for some reason unable to switch the half resolution to off. Its becoming very frustrating and to me makes playing the game somewhat less fun. I am hoping its a bug that will soon be fixed.

You should search the forums and read most recent patch notes before posting an issue.

It is a know issue that has migrated over from Tribble with the launch of S8. This issue along with the material files bug are known to the Dev's and will be fixed in due course. Until then just be patient as it is being worked on.

    I have this as well.

I had my game on half resolution for some trouble shooting prior to S8, now it is stuck there. The game looks like **** and I dont want to play it as i would rather play pong on my old atari!!

You can correct this issue by going into your StarTr~1/Live/Localdata directory, opening "Gameprefs.pref" in Notepad, and replacing the values for "GfxSettings.RenderScaleX" and "RenderScaleY" with "0", which should remove the half-resolution issue. Using nonzero values greater than 1 will likely result in your game crashing. Small values < 0.5 will result in your game being even uglier, but faster. Overly small values ( < 0.02 or so) will crash the game.

While we work on a more permanent solution, you can manually disable it by running this command in your chat bar: /renderscale 1

/renderscale .5 will enable it again.

    Cheers,

    Doesn't work.

I just really have to ask: What's the point of Tribble if something like this shows up there, and it makes it to the live server?

If you're going to ignore bugs anyway, why have a "test" server at all? Seriously. It just becomes a silly nonsense.

Or was the person who said it carried over from Tribble wrong?

Oh, no, they weren't wrong. There it is, right in the patch notes from over a week ago.

Which means it's been around for more than a week.

    Are you people KIDDING us?

Just imagine it, a new player logs in for the first time, knows nothing about STO, and THESE are the graphics they get.

It's not bad enough that the graphics are so horrible at half resolution that I don't want to play STO, but just imagine how quickly that new person will walk away and tell all their friends.

I'm going to guess PWE cash men don't read these forums.

Rezing this thread as I just did a fresh install of STO today and could NOT disable Half Resolution from the video options.

I was able to disable it via the command line as suggested.

However, being as this was a fresh install from scratch, new users would be turned off in a flash (as I was with Neverwinter) if the game started with half resolution on by default and no way to disable it.. unless they spent time searching the forums for a "fix" (workaround).

Just alerting the devs, this problem still exists for both Neverwinter and STO. Not sure on the cause, but sometimes the Half Resolution option gets enabled somehow and without the option to turn it off, it's stuck that way. New installs seem to be particularly susceptible.

No idea how widespread it is but I agree, new users hitting this problem have no way of knowing that this is a bug or a glitch or something and no way of digging around in the settings to fix it. They'd just assume the game looks like butt and uninstall it.
