We're sorry users for the disappearance of the old thread. It looks like the Borg may have overwritten the previous entry in some underhanded scheme.

Things that I don't want, but fear may come to pass:
Will have to wait for more info to confirm/deny that
Will have to wait until launch to see if this applies

There... fixed your post for you Smirk.....
After maxing out every time so far, I will be damned if I am spending the time and effort to do it this time just so down the road they can wipe all progress again and we have to start over from scratch.
Thank you for assuaging some of my fears, at least for now.
This would also link in nicely with monetization, with profession packs on the C-store which would have rarer materials and Doffs used for crafting. It works pretty well in Neverwinter and think it could port over to STO nicely.
What I would like to see is a few items that are pretty much BIS (Best in Slot) available from crafting which are none tradable, so that people that take up crafting get a genuinely useable reward. Or failing that, give maxed out crafters an ability to add a mob (enchant) to a high end item, that way as new items get released, crafters arn't left feeling they leveled their crafting skills for nothing since they could still make their items slightly better.
I'm actually really looking forward to seeing how all of this works out and how it gets integrated with the DoFF system (which I think needs a bit of love too). Maybe we'll even see the DoFF and BoFF system finally get integrated together as well which was the original intent of that system!
I have not bothered crafting in at least a year - maybe longer, because there is nothing worth crafting. Including Duty Officers only tells me it is going to be a long drawn out and complicated process with side excursions. The additional cost of dilithium to make anything also reduced any interest I had in crafting. Since I can't craft anything worth while anyway, what is the point in upgrading a system that has become meaningless and irrelevant. Are we going to be able to craft Mk XII Advanced or Elite gear? Are we going to be able to link items into already existing sets that are incomplete? (Breen, Borg, Romulan, Reman, etc.) Are we going to be able to combine the technologies of convenience from various game changes into equipment we want? (For instance can I make a Borg engine of the kind I want, a Reman Deflector Dish of the kind I want, a Dyson Shield Array of the kind I want, a Cutting Beam of the energy type I want, ...)
While there are certainly improvements that could be made in the crafting arena, my expectations of it being something I, as a person who liked the original crafting fit in the original release of the game, will find useful, comparable, and entertaining seem very low. However, I would like the Dev.s to feel free to impress me.
The Crafting system in Neverwinter of Pay real money or you can't craft anything of value or higher level is exactly why I never bothered developing crafting in Neverwinter. It is one of the reasons I don't find any reason to play Neverwinter.
I believe the not gonna happen and the pretty sure this ain't gonna happen falls in the same lines of many dev's that stated federation players would never have access to carriers on their federation characters but look now if you complain enough you can get atleast one hangar on any new ship if you hold out long enough. To the point now that the carrier becoming a KDF thing went to the federation has access to more hangar using ships than we do in the KDF lol. On top of that some of the tech out there labeled as nausicaan tech like siphon pods there are no nausicaan ships with a hangar roflmao. So I know you are new but there is a reason why there is always a communication blackout when Mr. D'Angelo takes the helm
Any of us that have seen neverwinter's crafting system we know its just a copy and paste of it and that the only fun that comes out of it is the person on the other side of it pulling out the quarters it cost to move an inch in the crafting system there. I guess the point now is to bring STO on par with NW where the exchange rate goes to the highest it can possibly be and feels like a ghost town lol. Odds are though for people who are all geared out this system won't provide much of anything for us though I figure its design is more toward newer players because once you fall into the old player category and you own pretty much everything in the c-store you are no longer a valued player/customer.
Lockboxes are not DOff packs.
What DOff pack came with Crafting specific DOffs?
What DOff pack came with Crafting material?
What Crafting items are only sold in the Lobi store?
~CaptainSmirk
You got times wrong. The question is "What ... will come ...?"
Toi'Va, Ti'vath, Toivia, Ty'Vris, Tia Vex, Toi'Virth: Add Tier 6 KDF Carrier and Raider.
Tae'Va, T'Vaya, To'Var, Tevra, T'Vira, To'Vrak: Give us Asylums for Romulans.
Don't make ARC mandatory! Keep it optional only!
Question 1: Any duty officer assignment that takes any material(EC or otherwise) to generate an in-game item is inherently a "crafting" project. All Duty officers used to craft weapons(space or ground), warp cores, singularity cores, consoles, shields(space or ground), engines, and Combat Armor are doffs used for crafting by use of their specific duty careers and or additional traits.
Question 2: The use of the Alien Artifact in any duty officer assignment(whether to power the artifact or to prototype the artifact into a console) is(as above stated) considered a Crafting Project Material.
Question 3: Doff Packs containing Lobi as a promotion on top of acquiring any other promotional item is to intend the use of Lobi for any and all items present or future to be intended for the Lobi store.

I love how Rivera is practically confirming all of what I said....
INCLUDING saying that some Catalysts WILL be in Lockboxes. *tuts* Shame Smirk....
keep in mind that PWE folks are kept at a bit of arms length from the actual Cryptic dev team, the irony is that Smirk is trying the cover the collective butts of people that probably lie just as easily to him as us.
But yes, listening to the Priority One pod cast not only didn't assuage the concerns I had going in but raised more.
A) seemingly no intention of removing dilithium
even with good crafting experience, it was insinuated that you would still need catalysts to get the Blurple or even Gold items.
C)Doff requirement for Blurple, Gold and Crafting Only items.
D) The Doffs will be found in the Doff packs
E) Crafting items will be included in new Crafting Pack to be introduced to the C-store.
F) Random Drops of crafting materials added to lockboxes
I mean that was the gist of the interview and straight from Riviera's mouth. If this isn't a statement of intention I don't know what is.
I don't know why Cryptic feels they have to make the crafting system into another indirect source of money, I mean isn't Cryptic making enough money, do they really have to monetize EVERY aspect of this game??

Smirk should do with that podcast and Geko what Smirk had the mods do to players. Replace it with the word redacted and remove all mention of upcoming things until they make their way into a Smirk written blog post so it's official.
And then move the blog posts into some other thread so they're harder to find.
Oh don't misunderstand me, I'm sure he is still definitely a "Company" man, but being a former "Company" man myself, WE as well as HE needs to remember, that he can be just as lied to as easily as the community can be lied to.
Even in game companies, they engage in compartmentalization, and keep secrets from each other, even if it's just a function of keeping things straight.
Same thing happened with COH and it was shut down with almost no warning, and they sold I fetimes right up until the announcement.
