I realize you guys are busy on whatever project is slotted for after the summer event and this isnt one of those "We need ships some make one NOW" threads. Im not even asking for a ship exactly. But i would like to throw some ideas on your "board for the next romulan ship...if there isnt one in the works.
First i would like to point out that i dont know what youre thoughts are on tanky romulan ships but with powercreep being what it is and the best ships for romulans being lockbox or lobi ships, it leaves few warbirds for pvp that are competitive. On hand i count 3-4. Which, when considering the amount of good KDF and FED ships, is rather disappointing.
Some ideas i would like to through out there are:
A romulan battle crusier- Something simular to the avenger/mogh with a back story along the lines of, "To combat the growing undine threat the rebulic looked to the federation and KDF allies for design insperation....yada yada yada..." A ships with 11-12 base turn, high inertia, four tact consoles and a 5/3 weapons load. There are few 4 tac console romulan ships and out of those that have 4 or more, all but one are escorts. the one that isnt an escort slided all over space like a sloppy drunk. The idea behind a tanky romulan battlecruiser is so that romulans can have a tanky ship while still being able to employ romulan tactics, namely battlecloak. I know for the most part, romulan ships are hit-and-run masters but when they are hung up, they pop fast. What i propose is a warbird that can dish it out AND take it. For balancing issues i would lower the ambush bonus to 15-20% while keeping battle cloak. any console you guy see fit to include should be defensive to aid in tanking. something to help hull. Perhaps the romulan version of Janeway's armor. The thing is, there are plenty tactical ships for now in the romulan lineup. there are now two science warbirds. What i think is needed are USABLE engineering ships and a romulan battlecruiser could fit that role.
Or, like you guys did with the federation Patrol escort, you could say, redo the mogai to fit this role.
Carriers:
While i know it has been said that romulans will not get a carrier, i am hoping somewhere along the line, someone's mind is changed. Just saying. there are many who have asked for it and thus there is a market for one.
Alpha Attackers:
If romulans are the masters of decloak alpha attacking, why arent more of their ships 5/3 weapon layout? I mean, would they want as much firepower up front so when they decloak, they cant kill what ever they are ambushing? I know people, maybe even some of you might say, "This guy might just need to get in a sicimitar and call it a day." The thing is, i have one already and i HATE IT. Its too bloody big, Slided too much, is too damn slow. Cant turn. And it cant really tank. A decloaking alpha attacker should be able to move into position fast enough to attack and the scimitar isnt fast enough for that, Not IMO. Again, a turning of 11-12 and an impulse mod simiular to the mogai's would be perfect. In fact, A 5/3 mogai might be the way to go. I think more 5/3 ships caters to the romulan Decloak Alpha style.
Designs of Warbirds:
The Romulan Dyson is fantastic looking while the arkif/arkala looks rather plain. Everytime i look at the Romulan dyson, the words of John Sherridan from babylon 5 when first talking about the White Star come to mind. It looks romulan, but it looks like it might NOT be romulan. And it isnt too WIDE. Devs, please, no more ships that are too wide for the maps.
Suggestions for inspiration:
Hawk's fighter from buck rodgers.
EDI from "Stealth" movie
Raptor class from ST: Legacy
Naboo ship from SW:Episode one.
Beoing's Bird-of-prey
Galen's Technomage ship from Babylon 5
SWTOR X-70B Phantom Starship
White Star from babylon 5
Something LONGER, not WIDER

Valdore console makes it tank. I personally swear by the shields-while-cloaked console and the secondary shields; these really increase the tankiness while boosting turn, but if that's still not enough tank get the Falchion hull and put fleet neutroniums (+Turn) on the eng console slots.
Ive done that and its not an "I dont know how to fly it" thing. I dislike its sliding, its size, its looks, its turn rate, when when boosted to 9 buy the two piece. Even with all that, its STILL a capitol ship with little tank. Its a hit and run ship and unless you are using beams, the valdore console is useless on this ship. Youre cloaked and now even shooting half the time if using cannons and if youre still visable when the turn bonus wears off youre wrong, thus you dont need the valdore console. I hate the ship. But this isnt about the scimitar. This is about the romulan factions lack of warbirds and throwing ideas out so when/if a new war bird is made, it is something the romulans need instead of more of the same.
--This is completely hilarious because I've soloed ISE in a cannon Scimitar without dying once while my buddies watched. Was hard as hell, but I did it. Any newb can make a cannon Scimitar tanky as heck while still having absurd DPS. In fact, I currently use a deliberately gimped set just to make the game fun instead of absurdly easy.
--The ONLY ships that the Romulans "need" are a proper science ship and MAYBE a 2-hangar carrier. They have everything else already. Also, everything that you suggested above is either already possible with the scimitar or absurdly game-breaking.
Again, this isnt about the scimitar. And as i said, this isnt an "I want a better ship that the scimitar" idea, in fact, my "Romulan battlecrusier idea would have less dps that the scmitiar.
Also, there are plenty of ships that can solo ESTF. i rarely play ESTF only doing so when i need marks. i mostly pvp in kerrat. When you try a cannon scimitar and youre out manuvered by a Hunter or bug, being forced to die or flee because your whale cant put weapons on target, you tend to think about other choices. the Scimitar is a fine PVE ship...pvp, not so much.
as for what i suggested, gamebreaking? How? A 5/3 battlecrusier with reduced ambush and an 11-12 turnrate with four tac consoles....and IF it gets a unique console, something defensive oriented... sounds like the mogh/avenger WITHOUT vata and one more turn and even has the same ambuse they do... the only thing it has above them is the one turn rate. Soooo game breaking how? The plus+ turn rate was meant to aid those who would use cannons on the ship in fighting and keeping cannons on target. Again, if you pvp an fast hunter of bug, you will know what i am talking about. Hell, i destroy scimitar in my mogh and my avenger all the time. They arent even a threat.
Now, please, lets not make this a "Go get a scimitar" Thread. I have one. I hate it. That's that. Please move on. This is about giving the Dev idea for their next warbird and if you arent helping in that capacity please dont post here.
I even managed to 1-shot a team of supertank oddys in a Tulwar specced for thalaron. Granted, it took the rest of my team in sci ships spamming grav well, tractor beam, subnuc beam, and a couple of heals on me, but I still 1-shot a whole team of oddys when playing around with my buddies.
Face it. The Scimitar is unequivocally the best ship in the game. PVE or PVP. Yes, the Voth Palisade is tankier, but the Scimitar is almost as good and can nuke anything on top of that.
It´s okay, all of you know how to handle it.
But:
Please let Chris have this thread as he tried to settle it down only for design-ideas :-)

Not everyone from the ROMULAN republic want to flying in a REMAN scimitar. It is enough that i see in nearly all stf mission at least one scimitar. F.e. same as you could saw half the fleet KDF fly with Guramba.
Here are the three most common wishes on the ship from the romulan players that I read here in the forum after a scimitar was released.
1) Proper science ship. Ok now is dyson science destroyer, very nice and original ship , so the designers could implement the romulan materials (simply romulan ships are not white)
2) Two hangar carrier , one carrier better than a whole Ha' serie.
3) Cruiser comparable with avenger or mogh for those who do not want to fly with a scimitar. Standard cruiser with 7-11 turn rate is still missing. Ar'kif could be a nice cruiser than the devs made him just another escort. Ar'kif is bigger than avenger or mogh but his base turn rate is 16!

As for carriers, we have enough of those already.
As for a tactical cruiser akin to the Mogh/Avengeance battlecruisers, I support this too. This class of ship is what I'm looking for in a Romulan ship. Alas, the only options are an Aux2Bat Ha'apax, a D'Deridex, or a Scimi, none of which has a turn rate greater than base 7.

You and everyone else doesnt get it. You think i should just move one and geta scimitar but let me tell you scimitar lovers something:

But since you keep bringing it up, i will say this again. I HATE THAT DAMN SLOW, SLIDING, SPACE DRIFTING, HUGE, GETS STUCK IN MAPS, BUS TURNRATE HAVING, OVER COMPENSATING BATSHIP.
Sure it has the highest dps. good for you. But you dont NEED that much dps to kill things, PVE or PVP, Thus, all that dps is overkill and while i love overkill, even for me, that is too much. I hate the ship. I fell in love with the mogh and the avenger, so to those who think i should simply roll a fed or kdf toon. Too late i did already. have had one of each for some time now. The thing is, romulans dont have a nice crusier or carrier. Now it has already been said romulans wont get a carrier. FINE. But a Battlecrusier which doesnt slide all over the place, LIKE THE AVENGER. A ship like that wi5th battle cloak would be PERFECT!
The thing that scares me is they would make such a ship and it would be WIDE as hell and twice as ugly, so i gave some design ideas to maybe point them in a better direction. I longer bird-like design instead of these wide ships.
To say romulans dont need more ships is simply a comment which shows ones inner dislike for the romulans. They have the least amount of ships. if they dont need any ships, then thwe KDF needs nothing and neither does the FEDS.
Now KNOW they are busy, they being the devs, so im not asking for them to drop everything and make this ship now. But in the future IF they decide to make a romulan ship, i am hoping...PRAYING they remember this thread and run with a few of me ideas.

Hold the presses! People are no longer allowed to have any talk about actual diversity in the Republic's ship lineup! There must never be any new ships because of the Scimitar!
No...wait...strike that. Cryptic should delete all other playable ships from the Republic's shipyard selector because there's the Scimitar to fly!
And everyone who dares have any other opinion other than that the Scimitar is totally awesome will be banned from the game for heresy!

I would love see a rom carrier that was 3/3 with advanced battle cloak (or a console that would let it launch fighters while cloaked) it appeals to the cloak and dagger image I have for them. I would not be opposed to them having a few more healer/control centric ships. But one thing the romulans don't need is more damage oriented ships.

HMMM, I think you missed that the opening post includes the phrase "similar to".
I'm not sure what about the way people phrase stuff around here you know or don't know.
So if this sounds patronizing it's not intended to be that way.
"Similar to" is for example perfectly exeplified by the stats of the Kamarag and the Ambassador.
They're certainly not the same ship but they're quite similar.
With the Avenger and Mogh I think they didn't hit "similar", those are indeed pretty much the same ship.
While I don't agree with the OP that the RR needs another 5/3 ship, I think a vessel with a BO layout similar to that and otherwise unique characteristics is indeed in order.
And, no offense, but a response that includes more than feedback than namedropping Scimitar and telling people they should not dislike it as though they can switch off their feeling is not helpful.;)

It's customary to put signatures into a specific field for signatures which is seperate from the actual post. The result looks like this:

For everything else, the Scimitar can do it. Need a scidestroyer that can tank? Scimitar. Need a PVE beam-boat A2B DPS hog? Scimitar. Need a PVP PWNverlord? Scimitar. Need a tank that can solo a tac cube while putting out enough firepower to kill the gate in ISE in a minute? Scimitar. Need a cannon boat that can melt a cube on elite in 10 seconds? Scimitar. Need a thalaron pulse that can 1-shot a fully-loaded Oddy if you spec right and have healers to keep you alive while it charges? Scimitar.
Face it. The Scimitar is the best and most OP ship in the game.
How about some of us don't want a big pile of metal we have to learn how to fly. Sorry PWE screwed up with the romulans and basically made the "One ship" aka 1 ring from LOTR. 1 ship to rule them all was A BAD MOVE.
Sorry I don't want only 1 ship that can do it all. I want multiple ships that can do multiple roles. Or have options.

From a pve perspective you are right on the mark. But wether he realises it or not the op is asking for for an upgraded scimitar, trading In a few of marginal strengths to loose all of its major weakness's. and that is what I have a problem with. I've worked long and hard to force 39k dps out of a cannon ship, to push to a point where I can dog fight an escort. When says this fantasy ship would be "perfect" he would be right, the scimitar would be obsolete. Now if you think the scimitar makes other ships pointless.... Can you see where I'm going with this?

Which does more DPS? Scimitar.
Which has a DPS centers Boff layout? Scimitar.
Which has higher hull? Scimitar.
Noticing a trend? I am not asking for a better scimitar. And if you think the avenger/mogh IS a better ship then awesome. I happen to love the avenger and the mogh however, they dont do as much as the scimitar for DPS. Now before you mention BOFFs....
What does that have to do with the ship? Nothing. to prove my point, outfit a scimitar with fed boffs.... it doesnt work nearly as well. And if we are reduced to talking about boffs making ships good, then we are no longer discussing ships but Boffs... Besides, i have romulan boffs on my mogh....it STILL doesnt have the DPS of my scimitar. But this isnt about the scimitar, i think i even SAID THAT in the OP.
By the way, dont you think the next romulan ship had to be as good if not better than the scimitar? (not saying my ideas would be.) Otherwise if its not, why would people buy it? They would just get your "one ship to rule them all" Can we drop the bloody thing in the volcano already?
But i digress, as i have said more than once, this is NOT about the bloody scimitar. It was NEVER about the scimitar.

This about giving the devs ideas for the next romulan ship they work on. Hell, they could have one in the pipeline now for all we know. I just wanted to give them ideas for the ships' layout, in game function, and looks. Something that wont be useless, or ugly, or whatever else is unwanted. Regardless of what you all think, my ideas well SELL. thats what is most important to them, not DPS, not balance, and anything else. If DPS was a problem, they wouldnt be making ships that can do more of it, if balance was a problem, they wouldnt be making more and more powerful ships, consoles, and gear. They want things that will see and my ideas WILL.

The Scimitar is the most effective warbird out there. Don't like it? Fly a t'varo, mogai, or dhelan.
The ONLY ship that the RR "needs" is a proper sci ship, and MAYBE a decent Vo'quv-style carrier.
For everything else, you have 2 choices: Scimitar, or anything else. The Scimitar will always be the better option.
OP, sorry if you don't like the Scimitar, but it's the best ship in the game, by far the best Warbird, and freaking beautiful on top of that.
