Intrepid: Ablative Generator upgrade

Hello

The Intrepid Class ship is/was a very cool science ship. The unique console is also very cool but lately with so many new ships coming out getting out-dated. What if you would upgrade the Ablative Generator console (which is unique so nobody can cry "OP") in the way, that the Torpedo attacks while Generator is online, get some bonus damage? Like when Voyager got into the Borg nebula with the Hub. When they on-hit a cube. Not like that of course, but something nice :D

    I fully support this idea.

    The devs need to rework the torpedoes and some of the consoles in the game to once again make it possible to create a "100% torpedo boat" that rivals the DPS and burst damage of a "100% energy weapon build".

    Right now my best burst damage/DPS ships are escorts loaded with all DHC in the front and turrets (or turrets and KCB) in the rear. Even my best torpedo boat builds can't consistently pour on the damage and kill things as quickly as my cannon-wielding escorts.

    It should be possible to build a 100% torpedo boat that kills things just as fast and easy as a 100% energy weapon build.

    Could they give us a Doff that might double the time the armour's active, or perhaps halve the cooldown time? That might not solve the problem of insufferable DHC DPSers, but it would be nice none the less.

    I bought the Intrepid retrofit during one of the ship sales, and I think its tanking ability still lies in its shields.

    I don't know... an integrated Torpedo Attack Upgrade when the armour is active? I could see that.

    Last time I checked the Intrepid was a Science ship... unless you might have mistaken it with the Warship Voyager, there is really no need to buff it up so it can be a DPS Torpedo boat.

    I know several persons who are handling their Intrepids very well. One guy as healer that always keeps you in one piece even when he is fired upon.

    The other one kinda does the torpedo boat with transphasics and nifty science stuff like gravity wells, syphons and other stuff. I never heard from them that their Intrepid is outdated compared to the new shiney ships...

    Just because something hasnt been touched in years, doesent mean its outdated. just because you cant build it to be useful and awesome, it doesent mean others cant...

    As damage dealer? It was never supposed to be one. But some people can do some decent damage with their transphasic builds
    As healer? Its doing just fine
    As science ship? Its all good!

    While its probably not the very best of the Science Ships around its solid. The Fleet Version of it is even a tad better.

    I think the main problem we have in STO theese days is that the current playerbase wants the Tanking DPS Healing Ship that turns like a shuttle, has alot of hull and very thick shields along with 125 Power on everything...

    Sorry guys I flew the Intrepid for 3 years 6 months and 4 days.... even the much awaited fleet version. I tried many different configurations to maximize its utility. Bottom line with all the nerfs to sci powers the ship became outdated. I dumped it for a temporal Sci Wells class that gives me Torp Spread 3 [instead of TS2] and has a beefier hull and a better turn radius. Plus it seems to me that the survivability is better in the Wells. I had a nasty transphasic build but when they nerfed the Breen cluster bomb and reprogrammed Ai to shoot down my destructible torps I needed something else.

    The one thing I wish they would have done is give it the Nanite Torpedoes that have the ability of Viral Matrix 3 and the explosiveness of the Har'peng torpedo at full capacity. After all that was Star Trek cannon.

    Personally I think that ablative armor should be able to be used on ANY fed ship, not just the intrepids.

    So pretty much every Escort. :P

    How about... activate Ramming ability when the armor is active? ;)
    Sometimes I think I play STO just to have something to complain about on the forums.

    Normal or fleet Intrepid~similar to the kdf Varanus support ship. Can't see a lot of people flying them around:D

    Hello.

    I just want to make it clear, that when i posted the idea, i didn't want to make a torpedo boat or a DPS ship out of the intrepid. I just had an idea to upgrade the Ablative armor generator. Thats all. Upgraded torpedoes while Abl. Armor is active. Thats all :D

    Sounds fair.

    Extend the uptime of the Abaltive Armor and give it a temporary buff on projectile weapons.
