Why am I getting 20 popups taking over my browser when i try and launch the game? This is a fresh install and i was forced to use arc. I don't want to use arc, but I guess choice is not something i get to have as a customer here. If I have to use arc, I do not want the popups. How do I make them go away?
In fairness, I've never experience Popups during the short time I used Arc. I am tempted to say that you may have installed something else... Something... not right.
However, if you wish to avoid Arc and the background monitoring they are doing on you, you can swap arc for Steam.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Sorry it's not Arc or the launcher that is causing your "popups" You have malware/adware on your computer, as much as you would like it to be the launcher it is not. I know a "launcher" is a bitter pill to swallow for some, but most companies, Blizzard included, that have a bunch of games uses them. So buck up little cowboy and just accept that the launcher is not the issue here.
In fairness, it's only when I use the launcher. I had to download it with arc.
The launcher uses IE as it's backend to show it's news and buttons. You probably only get those popups using the launcher since you're (I'm only assuming here) using other browsers for actual Internet stuff (chrome/firefox).
Even with a clean install, you still have a chance to get a bunch of adware. How? Well, just go to java.com and install Java on your computer (necessary for a bunch of programs), there's an option which ask you if you want to install some toolbar or anything.
Most people click yes without even reading. And that's how you get adware.
That's quite the paradox, how could you nerf nerf when the nerf is nerfed. But how would the nerf be nerfed when the nerf is nerfed? This allows the nerf not to be nerfed since the nerf is nerfed? But if the nerf isn't nerfed, it could still nerf nerfs. But as soon as the nerf is nerfed, the nerf power is lost. So paradoxally it the nerf nerf lost its nerf, while it's still nerfed, which cannot be because the nerf was unable to nerf.

ive never had problems with launchers before and i force this "backend" to work with firefox as i have no trace of IE on my system. its the first thing i delete after a fresh install. i will not keep that security risk on the computer.
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.

Basic IE elements when you install the game...

Yeah, you go right on believing that "deleting" IE does anything besides make you think you did something you didn't really do. It doesn't work that way. It's a bit like taking the "Mustang" badges off a Mustang and thinking that means it's not a Mustang any more.

Sounds to me like you that your computer is bugged and it's not ARC that was the cause.
This past Mothers Day a spent the better part of 5 hours trying to clean out my in-laws computer that kept opening 5 or 6 windows whenever you tried to browse the internet.
They had a Norton Suite on the system (that I was guessing was a fake) that kept telling them that the system was all clean.
Lucky for them I had installed malwarebytes on their computer about 6 months back.
I was able to update the copy of malwarebytes and run a quick scan of the system and it found a whopping 831 bugs and known malware on the system among them something called Torcho that completely took over the internet browsers once it had been discovered.
I was able to clean the bugs and malware out but the system was unable to connect to the internet after and I told them the best thing for them to do would be a complete wipe and rebuild of the system.
My in-laws chose not to follow my advice and decided to have a tech they hired to come and look at the system this past Monday and the tech found even more bugs and malware on the system.
The system was declared unsafe for repair and a complete wipe and rebuild was performed
The only difference between me and the tech is I walked out of my in-laws home with a bruised ego and the Tech walked out with $175.00 :P

Not possible, IE shares core integration elements with the shell.... you cannot remove all traces of it. you can remove its icons and use as a default browser and even its component from program files, but core interoperability parts of it in fact will still be there.
ok... everyone is poo pooing the OP but I would not be so quick to dismiss him...
Last week when they posted about the new escort and the site was "down" for some of us, I didn't just get the error page but clicking anything related to PWE - the site and just he hyper link in the dev post - caused my browser to crash. There are IMO issues with PWE. Maybe related to java.
Also the Free Zen stuff are well known internet scams, so I really wouldn't put it past them to add spam pop ups to ARC or them using an unsafe version of java. Most malware these days is using java to infect you. You don't have to click or download anything.
