Space Abilities Tray keeps resetting every time

edited November 2014 in Controls and User Interface
As a Science Captain I rely heavily on Abilities and having a customizable tray in order to manage them effectively. Problem is, every time I set the Abilities Tray (and yes, I do lock it down afterwards and I do log out the character instead of just going straight to Exit Game), it resets back to the defaults every time I'm back in space with my ship (Dear Cryptic, I do NOT want or need useless stuff like Abandon Ship). As long as this bug continues, I'm pretty much unable to play any space stuff because I don't want to spend a couple minutes every single time having to rebuild my Abilities Tray by hand.

It would certainly be nice if the Devs actually cared enough to admit that there is this bug let alone start fixing it. I'm not holding my breath. :(

put the unwanted abilities on bar 8-10, then lock hotbars after you get the 1-3 set the way you want. As long as the abilities are on one of the 10 hotbars tabs they will stay where you put them. Only time you have to rework them is if you get a new ship.

Did everything what you said to the letter, and it's still wiping my settings and going back to defaults.

Try selecting your load out, setting it up then save it. Next change your loadout and change back to the first one. Set it up again and save.

    Hopefully it'll stick this time

Huh??? That made no sense to me.

As I said several times, it keeps reverting back to the TRIBBLE defaults. I even set up a lines 9 and 10 and built the ability tray from scratch. Not only did it revert back to the defaults for 1 and 2 again, but it wiped my 9 and 10 as well.

Sadly, I wish I could tell a Dev about this, but it seems that they've known about this problem since 2011 (and either cannot or will not fix it), and Tacofangs only seems to show up in game chat when he wants to have his ego stroked.

    1. Go to system space
    2. Save your load out...name it "A"
    3. Be sure to go to switch loadouts and confirm loadout "A" is selected.
    4. Set up loadout "A" to your desired boffs, powers, gear, and trays.
    5. Save loadout "A"
    6. Save a new loadout, name "B"
    7. Go to switch loadout. Be sure that loadout "B" is grayed out. If not, select loadout "B"
    8. Wait a minute and switch back to loadout "A"

If your trays do not stick, repeat steps 1 through 8 until it does.

It's what I've been doing with moderate success when the bug is bothering me.

    Good luck

So the help boils down to 'give it a jiggle'. :D

I swapped out 5 Weapon Batteries for a stack of 20, saved my loadout and it still keeps putting the 5 back on my ship! GJ, Cryptic.
Sometimes I think I play STO just to have something to complain about on the forums.

I spend more time in this game disabling the visuals on my sets, changing my power bars, and changing my doff layouts than actually shooting things and being productive.

Your genius plan regarding making the game more convenient by having loadouts and swapping ships more easily has actually been doing the exact opposite, according to my first-hand anecdotal evidence. And apparently I'm not alone in this.

I would try finding a bus to throw D'Angelo under, but I'm too busy going through my doff list and making sure I have the right ones on active duty.

I think that eventually the presets will be an amazing tool. The deployment of the feature wasn't stellar, and without some sort of process to inform the player base we've seen our share of problems.

Ultimately I hope that traits are included in the presets. Then I can jump from being a pain in the Borgs behind, to being an efficient Undine slayer at the click of a button.

I have found when you switch maps, that old settings occasionally recur. This goes with my belief that maps and ship settings are somehow tied together. By using the technique described above, creating a presets that you occasionally reactivate, the problem is less of an issue.

Oh and by the way iconians... love the footer.

Thanks, but nope. Did it to the letter and it's still giving me TRIBBLE.

One thing that I have noticed though; if I set my Tray and then log out while still in Space, it will keep the settings. It seems that by the mere fact of going to a starbase, planet, or anything that switches your avatar from a ship to a person, this will F up your Space tray again (funny how nothing happens to your Ground tray, BTW).

So, I guess I gotta remain in Space forever. No ground STFs, no away missions, etc. That kinda cuts my game experience in half.

Without the bug being consistent, I'm now stuck in OCD mode where I now obsessively look through all my gear, traits, power trays, and doffs and make sure they're all where they're supposed to be.

And thank you for the compliment.

You are locking your tray, aren't you? Mine would reset every time I visited the shipyard until I did this. I've never had a problem since. Set up your skill tray the way you want, then check the "lock tray" box.

Also, I've never used loadouts. Maybe this new "feature" is your problem?

Yea, I like the fact that for some people their little tricks work and for others it doesn't. Bottom line, great concept poor execution. I agree, this game cannot be played the way it keeps on moving my trays and duty officers around.

Placing my big toe on the shift key and singing the Star Spangled Banner while beaming to Deep Space Nine doesn't seem to work either. It worked at first and now it is broke, please fix it so I can continue contributing to this game that I love so much.

Of course I made sure to lock down the tray. Like I said earlier, going from ship to ground and back to ship later seems to wipe it back to the defaults, no matter if I lock the tray or save the Loadout. There's something in the code involving ship-to-ground that's triggering this.

I'd recommend you file a big report and make a contribution to the bugs forum. I'm sure there's already a thread on this issue, you might want to find it and add your two cents.

Yeah, I've been running into this annoying problem since they added the layout system.

Either my BOFFs leave their posts (not in their toolbars) or my UI toolbar completely resets (I.E. nothing in their proper spots) and using the layouts doesn't even fix it. Instead, you have to sit there fixing it by putting every icon back where you had it. And if you are in an event, you have to do it on the fly or hope people don't think you're an AFKer.

So be nice if they told us they are working on fixing this.

Filed a bug report, AND a trouble ticket, AND a forum thread (that's this). I'm raising one Hell of a stink about this (and rightly so, because this screws up my game so bad that it makes it unplayable to me). If this doesn't get their attention, I don't know WTF will.

Sadly, getting their attention is far from getting them to lift a finger in fixing it. I've encountered ancient threads here about the same bug dating back to 2011, with the same level of Dev "talk to the hand" attitude.

As this is a User Interface issue, I have moved the feedback to the appropriate thread. Your chances of getting Dev notice are much better here.

If so, then I want to repeat that this bug seems to be triggered when you transfer from Space to a Ground map, and when you return to your ship you find the tray has been messed up again (the Ground tray is fine. It's the Space one that gets buggered). Even visiting your own bridge while the ship is still in Space triggers this bug. The bad code seems to be somewhere in that region.

And to make things even stranger, this happens only when I'm in my Science Vesta. All of my other ships retain their trays no matter if I am in space or ground. Just the Vesta in space seems to be effected. Gonna move over to my Wells and see if I encounter the same bug. I really would prefer to keep my Vesta though. I like having the DHC and the hangar (which I just fitted with the Elite Scorpion fighters).

Update: Just F'ing lovely! Now my Wells is showing the same kind of tray wipe too! :(

The same situation is happening to me on two of my sci toons whom are using the Dyson Science Destroyer. This started ever since season 9 release. The new sensor ability won't stick in the power tray and neither will new reputation abilities. Device abilities are doing the same. I tried saving my load outs and no difference. So I switched to other ships in my inventory and the problem went away. For me, it is linked to the fed and rom Dyson Sci destroyers. I did not experience this with my Klingon Dyson science destroyer, but that toon is technically an engineer, so I think it's also linked to actual science characters, at least for me.

I just noticed this same issue the last 2 days on my MAIN Engineer...that I have had since I first started. Anyways, put in the skills I wanted in the order I wanted, locked the tray, and I come out of a mission, and bang, my #3 bar goes to #4, and all mys skills are messed up. I am in defari space at the time being...and well...sigh. So devs, are you all going to try and fix this? Thanks.

This same bug has been happening to me, with nearly the exact same parameters.

I'm getting it with my recon science vessel, and performed all of the loadout saves that have been suggested thus far in the thread to no avail.

This bug really does make it absurd for any captain that relies heavily on skills to be effective.

The way I fixed it on a problem ship was

    a) save loadout (named Default but its not important)
    b) switch maps, power tray is reverted
    c) change one BOFF, save as Default overwriting original
    d) change back to desired settings, save to Default again

    From there on it sticks

I am also having this issue as is my brother who also plays STO, It makes no difference what i do as the skills i set out in the bars always change back to default which has hardly any of the ones i actually use.
This issue did not happen before i upgraded my computer and it is very time consuming and annoying when i have to fix everything before i can start a mission or continue with what i need to do....

i have also tried the solutions on this thread with no success.

I had a play with this last night and found an answer to this:

While in space, preferably in SOL set your loadout and save it.
Then on the picture of your ship at the bottom is a "Select Ship" tab, use this and then set ALL your skills AND Bridge officers as well as anything else that has reset and save that loadout as well.
now use the "Select Ship" tab again and your settings should have saved.

I did make two loadout saves with each ship but i believe you only need one.

    Hope this helps.
