What if in Elite difficulty when a player is destroyed, or knocked unconscious we have an alternative?
The alternative I had thought up is as follows.
Space
Instead of instantly being vaporized, we are instead disable for 30sec-1min.
In which case if said captain's ship does not receive a hull related heal from another captain, than they would in fact explode and not be allowed to return to battle.
If all player's are destroyed, than the mission will fail with no rewards.
All destroyed player's would receive 50% of the normal end reward so long as 1 remains alive, while any player's remaining alive would be granted the full rewards available (yes I know can be somewhat exploited, but virtually no perfect scenario can be achieved).
This may bring better challenge to those who have been asking for it, and try and bring new life into tank and healer roles once again.
It would encourage better teamwork, and cause the newer player base to work harder on learning mission objectives.
Ground
Instead of just being unconscious, and waiting for a respawn, or player aid we are instead unconscious for 30sec-1min.
In which case if we do not receive aid, we are permanently out of commission.
If all captains are out of commission, than the mission will fail with no rewards.
All out of commission player's would receive 50% of the normal end reward so long as 1 remains active, while any active player's would be granted the full rewards available.
Thoughts/changes/suggestions are encouraged, as for unrelated comments they are what they are.
Afk penalties would need be rethought, as to not effect destroyed/out of commission player's.
I don't support it with Cryptic's current method of radically changing game systems and then breaking them. Leaving them broken for weeks. Sometimes indefinitely, without ever addressing it.
Just look how long it took them to fix the old Romulan "I am going to shoot myself with my own torpedo" behavior.
That and this sort of change would mark the first time they've really paid attention to the user forums. Much less fan suggestions.
last man standing with a revive window sounds good to me.
the park-n-plinks wont like it given how much they die in CE, but i could care less.
big thing about this kind of game mode is it would nee the previous difficulties to actually feedback player performance to them. or the content would get flooded with players that dont know they arent contributing.
That is kind of the point into making them actually learn the objectives, and strategies besides just point and shooting everything.
So you'd force me to run a Vo'quv or Mirror Negh'var for Elite STFs. KDF Raiders would be unplayable because you are much more subject to oneshots. None of the tank cruisers actually tank or can be depended on to tank. I could turn my DPS way down, i guess.
Still doesnt solve Scimitar easy mode, but it does address outrageous power creep of KDF Raiders. Or something.
What advantage, that they have tons of heals with less dps?
Sure I suppose they could tank an enemy, but with the average lack of dps on sci builds (not all), they would likely need a dps machine left alive.
I don't MIND being a Support-Tank with my Fleet Nebula Retrofit....
Yeah, my dps is around 1,600 at -best-, but I can tank more than long enough to keep mobs busy in PvE and stfs while I get my allies back on their feet(so to speak)...; I'd love to see how a mode like this would work!

True raiders are more apt to be one shotted, but they can be revived by a fellow ally captain with one simple hull heal, and even if you are perma-destroyed you still gain 50% of the end reward.
They could adjust it a bit higher than say 50%, but it is a start.
Raiders and weaker escorts would be more dependent on team work, and hit and run tactics.
Call me TRIBBLE... but I am all up to more challenge.. especially on ground.

Definitely as PUG groups tend to fail even harder on ground missions, than they do in space, but that's just MO.
They would either need learn quickly to provide actual teamwork, or take their butts back to normal runs, and learn how to complete the objectives, and work as a team.
I can't take it anymore! Could everyone just chill out for two seconds before something CRAZY happens again?!

^Personally we need to encourage team combat in the first place by adding advantages for grouping during story missions. Obviously this can't be done for the new episodes that are single player, but there needs to be something beyond just more drops and unknown accolades that really don't mean anything.
Agreed also, maybe if they offered up some unique rewards, and possibly doubling the standard one.

I thought WoW's forums had angry elitist snobs, but I never could have imagined the level STO forums has.

For example: Hive elite tends to kill everyone in the final stage. Don't want to PUG that in this setup on the new Elite.
Other than that, sounds like a good challenge!

Agreed here, as it would require some differing of either mission difficulty, or simply fixing the current ones.
