Season 9: The non-OP shall perish!

locutusofcactuslocutusofcactus Member Posts: 651 Arc User
Thread devoted to discussion on the good, the bad, and the ugly of what's OP in season 9.

Kits: Who needs a gun when "Your Lunge deals 4664 (2830) Physical Damage(Critical) to E'genn". Some perspective, that's 2k more than I could get in season 8.

Discuss what else is overpowered in season 9 (ahem... Nicor).

I thought WoW's forums had angry elitist snobs, but I never could have imagined the level STO forums has.

Well, I am apposed to what they did with the rep system, it will do nothing to stop power creep, because next month, cryptic will launch another ship, stronger than the nicor, for people to buy.

Having said that, due to the changes in that rep system, my ship is doing more damage than ever! Woo! My voth bastion ended up with more of both crits, the shield piercing is still in there, and its hull hit points are higher, to say nothing of the improvements on my Jem'Hadar Dreadnought... :D

Oh and that assimilated undine you fight in the Assimilated mission... no problem, stood on the spot the entire time, blasting away, didn't even lose a bridge officer :D

Other than throwing Jeff Hamilton under the bus because he lied about one of the biggest appeals of the trait reputation system, I like S9. Which is funny since the thing he lied about wasn't one of my major complaints of the system to begin with.

But I like seeing the Undine back at the forefront after 4 years of "Meh, yeah they're kind of out there but who cares?"

And I vomited rainbows when I saw Tuvok show up at the Undine Battlezone to help kill things with me in the original USS Voyager.

The ship he should have had to begin with, which would have made the show so much better. :P

Seeing Tuvok and Voyager flying alongside me, the Enterprise, the Lleiset, and the Bortasqu'... watching ESD burn...

It was quite epic in a way few missions in STO are.

... but it leads me to one question...

... if the Enterprise has the USS Aquarius -- then what's the name of the Aquarius-class escort on the prototype USS Odyssey (I assumed it had the prototype Aquarius on it and Enterprise had another Aquarius-class escort with a different name)?

Somehow, the game appears "harder" because of the number of simultanious events.. in fact I find it is easier to survive though (in space) enemies take longer..(ground is faster somehow as well)...

Annoying: every time and undine shoots you you move radically... if those beams are to act as such as canon then make it so the ship is facing you as in the show....

Then you make the ship's turn rate based on how fast your ship moves. Essentially anchoring them to wherever you're facing and spinning them around as fast as your engines will go.

I agree the system is glitchy and could use some work, however.

I'm pretty curious about this myself. What are the names of other Aquarius escorts? Are they named like full starships? Or is it more like naming a shuttle, and they're defined by their parent vessel? Do they even have individual names, or was Shon just saying "the Aquarius" like you might say "the shuttle?"

So many questions raised by one little line...

Since the ship is actually playable (with a T4 Shipyard), I assumed they each had different names, since they could function independantly from the mothership.

But yes, one of the most interesting questions that I had after the FE was over.

I would say that the most OP thing included with this season's release is the complaining.

I know, objecting to perceived mismanagement has its place and should be allowed, but really, this wasn't that bad. I'm enjoying myself.

That said, the evil tractor beam/triple torp combo D'deridexes use seems to have gotten tougher and ignores my warp plasma. Then again, it's been a while since I've played much (I deliberately played less when the Dyson sphere was released).

    in 2 months time

We the long term players will become

    The Ancients ........................

Of STO surrounded by fleets of noobs whom we will be so powerfull that 1 of us will do more in a stf pug then all 4 of them combined

most of them will be Feds because Star trek is in the name of the game and a Fed will be there first choice of a character

Only later will they realize they have picked the weakest Faction and the most poor faction

Then a little while after leveling to 50 this will be realized by them....Then they will leave
    Jellico....Engineer ground.....Da'val Romulan space Sci
Saphire.. Science ground......Ko'el Romulan space Tac
    Leva........Tactical ground.....Koj Romulan space Eng

JJ-Verse will never be Canon or considered Lore...It will always be JJ-Verse

The prototype Odyssey and the Bortas both have entirely different ship models, and neither of them have the deployables.

Quite simply, there is no prototype Aquarius. Or rather, the Prototype just died inside of a Planet Killer.

Balance doesn't happen in a vacuum.

DPS is up on both space and ground.

They can nerf me like this every day...

Actually... I was in a Khitomer Vortex Elite just yesterday where my lowly normal Atrox was dealing around twice the damage of THREE other ships combined... I wish I was joking but I am not. My setup for it is good but it is nowhere near THAT good.

The most OP thing is S9? Same thing as any other season. Those who accept and learn the changes, and are willing to adapt to them.

the USS Odyssey NX-97000 had a shuttle bay in the engineering section when we flew it at the 2 year aniversary. the enterpise seems to be the first odyssey class to have the aquarius

personally i would of named it the Galileo as a nod to the shuttle each enterpise always had named such. the original, A, and D all had a Galileo shuttle craft. but that;s just me maybe now that the USS Aquarius is destroyed it will be replaced with the USS Galileo?

It slipped my mind because up until recently the Enterprise model was the same as the original Odyssey (which I often joked about Shon being too much of a cheapskate to spend $50 on the 3-pack Odyssey), and I had forgotten the shuttlebay was on the regular Odyssey Star Cruiser.

I also noticed that apparently the Enterprise fires photon torpedos now? I remember it firing quantums and tricobalts before.

Well game mechanics aside, there are no quantum or tricobalt or photon torpedo launchers, there are just launchers that can be filled with quantum or photon torpedoes (older ones probably not compatible with quantums).
Son may be Shon ran out of quantums and tricobalts and forgot to order new ones.
Or he ordered new ones and they are not delivered until Tuesday. Which means, giving how time progresses in sto now, somewhen about season 13.

Should have borrowed Voyager's endless photon torpedo stores that couldn't be replicated.

    Speaking of which... another question.

Why in the hell did Starfleet let Voyager keep "one last nanite torpedo" for the past few decades instead of taking it (along with everything else they reverse-engineered like the Delta-class shuttles and the Ablative Armor consoles, and the mobile emitters, and everything else mass-produced from one-time-only inventions seen on Voyager) and making way more than "just one"?

That seems like an extremely obvious oversight on Starfleet's part.

Well I would assume the voyager had a major refit after it's return. I do not know if chakotay took over command like in the books immediately (the ship was mentioned in the path to 2409 but I don't remember the details).
So probably Starfleet wanted to bring voyager back to "standard" with no specialized weaponry and the follow up captain did kind of secretly hold back some thinks like that torpedoes "just in case".
I mean we know how stupid sto starfleet acts.... Canceling all counter Borg efforts because they didn't appear for some years, completely ignoring the undine thread until recently... They probably go with the philosophy : if we don't have counter undine weapons, the undine will obviously not attack... And wanted everything related to that removed.

Chakotay became the director of starfleet intelligence. Janeway was still given a desk job where she can be ignored forever. That left the third officer next in line for command of Voyager. Which would be our boy Tuvok.

But you probably have a point. Starfleet does make really dumb decisions. We can always blame the iconians as well for this glaring plot hole.

Reverse engineer all the things Voyager came up with and make it available en masse. Except the deus ex machina anti-undine torpedos. Starfleet logic.

After all those weapons use borg technology and are weapons of mass destriction that therefore probably morally wrong in Starfleets mind^^

No surprise there, when they redid the early missions earlier in the year they dumbed them down dramatically, between a third to half the mobs have been removed, they are setting up the game so that even the dumbest half-wit can get through the missions easy enough.
