am pretty sure that i did not delete it, mail it, vendor it, or place it in any of my banks and i have looked on all my 10 alts none of them have it either . and i'm very careful with my gear. i have stuff in inventory still that's been sitting there for very long time lol.. and even so they should still be able to find it and return it for me if i had did such a thing.

Well what happened to my energy whip was simple:

While that was actually equipped as a weapon, when I deleted some small Hypos from the Inventory I suddenly got the message "you discarder Ferengie engerie whip".
And I certainly didn't delete it, the character window was not opened. It just bugged and deleted something else.
It was pure coincidence that I even saw that. It was not retrievable.

In a similar way my T5 Ambassador ship got lost from the bank while deleting inventory trash from a place where I didn't even have access to the bank.

There is some bug causing that, but happens so rarely that they don't pay any attention to that.
IF that happened to you, you just had the bad luck that it happened to the BY FAR most expensive item in this game...

this reminds me of a glitch that I see rather often when the game is laggy. If I try to rearrange my inventory quickly, items sometimes end up in seemingly random places.

They cannot know if you ever had it, it is not part of your history, all they can tell is that you bought that pack, not what you got from it. and it can be abused so readily, that allowing it can cause much more problems than not. Blame the people who would abuse it, not the company who is just trying not to get scammed.

This would be incorrect. They should be able to see in the database that the itemid # for the ship was at a point in his account# It isn't that hard, but I have seen plenty of evidence in the past that some of the people in charge around here are either lazy, incompetent, or just flat out don't care. I wouldn't put it beyond the PWE overlords to just think they got some free cash out of you either *shrugs* *looks around to see if banhammer might be falling*

You really can't say that unless you know what tables are in the database and the table structure. If they maintain a history table of the bank and inventory slots for all accounts then, sure, it's possible to extract that data if it's created daily. However, most production databases that I worked on only contained either snapshot (most current state) or transactional (changed state over a certain time period) data. For instance, they might be able to tell you that the item is in your inventory, was sold, or was deleted, but not if it just disappeared.

That's not to say that the data may not be available. It's possible that the analytic group has created these historical daily tables and with several hours of analysis, could tell that the item just disappeared. However, unless you are related to a PWE executive, I doubt that anyone will take the time to investigate. It's a huge time sink for the analyst.

pretty much confirming all of our unspoken fears.

Some guy claims he should get the most valuable ship for free from the GMs because of some story?

    Comp denied.

for free no but if they did their job they would see that i did win it from the pack

Not even a week ago i spent some zen to buy the duty officer packs and in one i won the JHAS. it sat in my inventory for 2 days while i debated on what i wanted to do with it . well other day when the game had issues i was able to log in for little while and that's when i noticed my ship was gone. i looked for it then opened a ticket explaining what happened . few mins after the ticket was done the server went down for bout 8 hours . yall remember that right ? lol fun that was .
this is round about what they told me being i was edited changed it up a little .guess they do not want player base to see the truth .

. ok for real man ? are you serious?

trying real hard here to keep my cool but that's BULL

SO basic thing here is that this is a slap in the face . spend your money on the game buy their products and if you lose it then its tuff s**t. iv seen some old posts on this type of issue and replies were the same . i couldn't belive it and still can't .

why does cryptic/pwe do this? when just about any other game would replace it ?
they got to have some kind of history check .. do they not replace gear if your acct was TRIBBLE? and if they do how do they know you had that gear to start with ?

in any case take this as a warning be very careful this could happen to anyone and you wont get your item back .

i for one will not spend a dime on this game ever again i will just stick to exchanging dill for zen . at least then i wont loss real cash on items just my time ..

and you know this how? for all you know, they really CAN'T figure out what was obtained in the pack and what the character had/has in their inventory.

That is not an excuse because it is possible to code in the back doors necessary to provide customer service. Again, multiple games I have played allow their CS people to restore items and they know if the person is trying to scam a free item. If cryptic actually cannot do this, fine --- but they *should* be able to do it. It is just good practice and service to be able to fix glitches that involve real money purchases of virtual goods. The inability to solve such problems leads to paying for things one does not get --- a terrible business practice that, if it happens often, will cost them their customer base in a hurry. I find it had to believe that cryptic does not log a LOT of data including items, AH transactions, and more.

As for can't do it -- fine, but he deserves a better response than a chain letter. There are always "edge" cases; if he gets the item and 1/2 a second later the server fails before that info can be stored/saved, its lost for good.

The implication is they have a black box system, no way to look inside, and if the system fails, no matter how much $$ you spent, too bad. Again, I find this hard to believe.

    update

couple days ago a suggestion was made to me by one of the mods here on forums that i should open another ticket and try again .. what good that did me . the ticket got closed saying it was a duplicate and that i should refer back to my original ticket . which i did and still no reply. the original was never resolved or closed its like they are ignoring me now . i want answers dang it .

    1. why will they not return the ship

    2. can they track it down yes or no

    3. if they can track it then why wont they ?

    4. and if they can't track it then why?

    update !

just thought i would let others know that i got my ship returned to me yesterday. was shocking but there it was .

went to my ticket history to see what reply i got from them and this is word for word

    Hello

Thank you for your patience while we investigated this matter. We have located the Jem'Hadar Attack Ship and returned it to the character. Should you have any further questions, please contact us again.

YAY!! got it back . this ordeal started 35 days ago . first being told that im S.O.L then bam! it's back

Now i do not know still if they can track lost items or what . they never told me where it was or how it got lost.. nothing they just sent that bit of info back to me. it does seam that they can track the items i mean key words ..INVESTIGATED and LOCATED dead give away .. or is it ? lol

truth be told i was very upset at the start of all this and it killed my mood to even play the game .but after doing the patch for season 9 and logging in for few mins only to find that the ship was returned to me renewed my interest .

special thanks to the devs and GM's for finding my lost ship. it took you guys more than a month and somethings still need to be changed and speed is a must !! lol but good job thanks for returning it

    Hooray!

I am extremely happy for you. And let me say "good job cryptic" as well --- this is what should happen.

They *should not* provide you with details of the glitch/bug/error or what they do or do not know. This is simply good practice: bugs and glitches can be exploited sometimes and it is best not to reveal the issue in detail. It may also be embarrassing --- its hard to say "yea, bob was in here messing with the code at 4 am, on his 43 cup of coffee when he inadvertently added a loot eating bug, sorry about that"
