Fleet Tactical Escort Retrofit - Reboot

As the Galaxy got a reboot how hard it is to bring this ship up tot speed.

Should be simply

Make Ensign Seat Universal

Raise Shield Mod from 0.9 to 0.99 to bring it in line with the others (it didnt get the 10% shield mod bonus like other fleet ships)

Seeing as it has the phaser quad cannons why not make there be a set bonus

2 piece - +2 Turn, Battle Cloak (3 minute CD)

Afraid to put a torpedo on your boat? =3

A 2-piece quad cannon/cloak set bonus would be nifty though.

Oh, you don't want a "reboot" like the Galaxy one friend, trust me on this one.

You also won't be ever getting the ens.slot universal, Cryptic has decided to keep the Defiant/Galaxy/Intrepid to be tactical/engineering/science heavy. They won't change this. They didn't change this for the Galaxy, the ship that needed it the most out of these 3.

The +2 turn rate is a but excessive, but I'd agree that the Defiant should get the shields adjusted from 0.9 to 0.99.

the Defiant is good as is and should be left alone no reboot required she does what she needs to namely filling ships full of holes.

New BOff seating – The Galaxy Dreadnought’s Ensign Tactical BOff seat will become an Ensign Universal BOff seat

not to mention hanger, the Galaxy reboot was ok, brought it up to speed without making is a 'galaxy avenger/scimitar'

The Galaxy-X is not the same ship as the Galaxy-R. What the X got is irrelevant in terms of the Defiant.

The Galaxy-R is the engineering counterpart of the tactical Defiant and the science Intrepid. These 3 ships are the ones that have Cmdr., Lt.Cmdr and Ens Boff seating in their respective (in game) roles.
Cryptic has shown great reluctancy to ever change this with the so called Galaxy "reboot".

So yeah, don't expect the Boff seating on the Defiant or Intrepid to change.

Well we have the canon shuttles for her in the game, the Type 10.

To the rest I don't need a battle cloack, but i want this Ensign Universal, and the 10% more shields and maybe maybe if possible a build in normal cloak.

The Defiant in game is actually scaled up in size to make it easier to see visually like shuttles. In ST its actually smaller than in game.
...okay? The Defiant being smaller still means that Mirandas are bigger.

Everything but the battecloak, maybe a accuracy bonus if you use the quad cannons and the cloak(they miss so much in pvp as is thanks to their DMGx4 mod) or a flat phaser damage bonus(it is a warship)

I gotta agree with this. The FTER does not need a Battle cloak, but an accuracy boost for using the Quad cannons + cloak console would be awesome.

And as much as I would love a universal Ens slot, the Defiant's boff seating is fine. Not perfect (perfect would obviously be an Ens universal), but if you had to make a list of genuine problems with the FTER, the Boff seating would be near the bottom (if it even makes the list). The only problem with the Ens Tac is that it prevents an all-cannon build, but you can still put on a DBB and a Beam Overload in the Ens slot for a supercharged Alpha Strike. Some people even use higher level slots for their Beam Overloads, but that strikes me as a waste of that Ens slot (this is all to say nothing of the obvious torpedo option).

Ultimately, though, the FTER certainly does not need the level of attention that the Galaxy-R still does.

If anything, I would like the console pieces that you get from C-Store Defiant-style ships (Point Phaser Turret and the Cloaking Device) to have some kind of synergy. I don't know *how* per se, but I'm a fan of what they did with the Galaxy's Antimatter Spread and Hull Separation console. My feelings are the same for the potential synergy idea with the Nebula C-store pieces (the two Tachyon Detection Field/Grid) but I'm still not sure how they would work out. Likewise for the Intrepid console pieces.

They can steal undine tech....why not? Steal a TARDIS, make the defiant bigger on the inside, then it has space for a hanger......

No need for an ensign universal; just eliminate the ensign station all together and create a lt com universal station.

As it is now it is better than any kdf raptor. Before talking about buffing FTER, kdf raptors should be first bring in line with fed and romulan escorts.

Amen on that one. Least BoP finally got the flanking bonus, raptors are just the most shat on class in this game.

Improvement to the cloaking and the .99 shield mod for FTER is the only real Quality of Life fix the Defiant family needs. As to the cloaking, either drop the console for innate, or make it offer battle cloaking when used with quad cannons.

Quad cannons themselves should get a QoL update with an energy capacitor slot akin to how they slotted the kits, so people can refit the quads to fire whatever energy type they like to use.

This thread is not about Raptors. Don't try to derail the topic with discussion of a class of ship KDF doesn't even like.

(Edited to fix Freudian slip, lol)

It may not be a thread ABOUT raptors but he has a valid point from the balance perspective that kdf raptors are typically at a "disadvantage" stacked up next to something like the FTER

These two ships, shouldnt be identical, but should be similar, as it stands the Qin gets a small bonus to hull and shields(really .02 shield mod though what's that when you're looking at 10k plus shields?) but worse turn, worse inertia, and awkward pivot, one less tac console(all things that really make an escort DO it's job of bringing pain)

    http://sto.gamepedia.com/Fleet_Qin_Heavy_Raptor

    http://sto.gamepedia.com/Fleet_Tactical_Escort_Retrofit

Neither is a bad ship in a vacuum, and I'd gladly see the FTER trade something for the integrated cloak(probably in the hull department) but I don't want to see battlecloak, it's contemporary lacks it, and if it gets that ens. uni shouldn't the kdf raptor get one(and shouldn't the kdf get some additional fleet raptors to match things like the MVA and Escort carrier?)

TL;DR -> fed thread or not we have to consider a ships counterpart when it has one and there's no reason for the klingons not to want something when we're already spoiled children

An Ensign Universal slot? I vote no.

Make it an Engineering Universal slot on the Defiant and the Qin Raptor both vessels have the same chance at durability like the Fleet Somraw Raptor, though it does take away from the Fleet Somraw which may need something tweaked on it to keep it different.

Of course with the removal of the third Tac Boff you are kinda gimping your ability to stack Accuracy buffs quickly under the new Undine rep system. Might be better to leave the third Tac slot and just create a combo effect for using the Cloak and Quad cannons together, like a stacking damage bonus of .05% up to 5 stacks for a maximum of 25%.

No battle cloak for the defiant. A QoL upgrade to for the Quad cannons to slot other energy types would be nice. No integrated cloak for the Defiant.

    Overall buffs;
Increased shield mod for Fleet Defiant to .99
Possibly a Quad cannon + Cloaking Device combo buff of damage stack up to 25%.
Possible Ensign Engineer slot for added survival.

Add that to an already fast, agile and hard hitting vessel and you have a winner in my book.

Throw a Targ bone to the KDF by upgrading the Fleet Somraw to a 5 Tac Console version and all should be happy.

I recommend the same advice people have recommended to me when I want to fly a favorite ship effectively at end-game:

Fly a completely different ship and PRETEND!

    So here's my suggestion:

Get the Nicor and pretend it's a rebooted Defiant!

Actually, a 2-piece between the Quads and the Cloak that gave it 10% bonus resistance and Damage (calculated in the same fashion as the Antiproton damage bonus on the Obelisk 2-piece set) would be a fluffy and functional bonus. It gets tougher the longer it's in combat (to slightly offset its naturally limited healing reserves) and ramps up in damage (big spike out of cloak, a little ho-hum performance, then on to full TRIBBLE-kicking mode).

Either way, anything that doesn't just turn it into a Patrol Escort with enhanced turning and cloak is bound to be better.
