Ever since they took Mirror Invasion Classic out, I'm hating leveling any other way. I actually preferred to grind MI and advance around 2-3 levels per run instead of doing regular Missions which IMO are so borrrrrring, especially for one character after another! No point in this double XP weekend if it's the same old mission boredom just to creep up one lousy level.
We need to have a leveling STF put back into the game. Period!

I never understood Cryptic's decisions to discourage alt training, of which nerfing mirror is only one example of. You'd think alts help out Cryptic financially.

There's plenty of XP sources still in the game. In addition to doffing and running storyline missions, why don't you try a few Foundry missions? You'll get dil, XP, and loot out of it in addition to the enjoyment of stories that are frequently better-written than Cryptic's efforts.

The opposite is the truth.
More alts means more dilithium refinement per day, which means less likelihood of a zen purchase.

1. DOFF stuff: LOL Please! Enjoy having your DOFFs get killed from playing a game of Fizzbin.
2. Storyline missions: See Original post
3. Foundry: doing Foundry once per day and that's it? Not exactly rocket-leveling there
Seriously, only Mirror Classic was the way to level. I'm not going through the Paradise saga over and over and over again.

Uhhhhh, foundry rewards are once per hour... not day...
That's bull, you level fast with Doffing, how about just play the game, instead of the I want it now.
Some people don't have all day and all night to play this game, and don't want to get left behind their friends who are advancing further. MIC was a perfect way to try to keep up.
LOL! By then it WILL be the 24th Century, for real.
Nah, I've actually levelled two characters on mostly DOFF stuff. It's really easy. And non-committal. You just log into them, set up 12 or more DOFF missions, log out and go back to a character you want to play other things on. The 20s 30s and 40s go by rather seamlessly.
I don't see that happening. I mean it's time gated itself. I'm not saying you'll level faster with DOFFing. All I'm suggesting is, if you've got some alts that you don't feel like doing missions with, but are like "I guess they'll never level cap" ... just spend a minute or two a day setting them up with some DOFF missions and they'll get there. It may take a month or two, but it's low impact. They level while you're off playing a different character or even a different game. It's not something I see them nerfing. It's just DOFFing. No biggie.
1. DOFF stuff: LOL Please! Enjoy having your DOFFs get killed from playing a game of Fizzbin.
So do level 4 diagnostic, refrequence your shield emitters, send people to Vulcan Monasteries, and give Dignitaries tours of your ship.
There's a ton of non-lethal DOFF missions available if you dislike Fizzbin.
Again, it was just a suggestion for people who feel like they have alts sitting there doing nothing. It's a low impact way to get those alts some easy XP with minimal effort on your part as a player.
It's not faster than logging in and doing missions with those characters. But it's not super slow either.
Doffing to level up doesn't take any time at all. I have leveled up 7 toons by doffing alone. After getting to level 11 to start the doffing. so average time for me was a week to get from 11 to 50 by nothing but doffing. Set as many doff mission running as you can, then once per day log in to collect rewards and reset them. 3 to 4 levels per collection cycle. so every 2 days about ten levels.
If you log in to reset them a couple times a day you can level to 50 in just a few days. Play some missions and your there even faster.
I levelled all my characters without doing mirror once, I cant see what the big deal about mirror is.
once you start doing doff missions you can level up very quickly just on that alone.
I don't know why people have so many alts anyhoo, you can only play one character at a time anyway.
I don't consider myself to have any alts I have 3 mains, 1 fed 1 kdf and 1 rom.
why would I bother playing an alt when I can do better playing one of my mains.
in my eyes alts are just a waste of time and effort, still each to their own I guess.
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.
I am new to playing MMOs. STO is my 1st and I started playing back at the end of January 2014.
I don't understand why people are whining about XP in the game. I actually think leveling up is too fast. You can basically advance 1 level for every story line mission you play. I've read that initially STO was not like this when it was 1st released. After completing a storyline mission back then people did not have enough XP to advance to the next level to do the next mission. That meant they had to do some grinding here and there by doing various other daily / repeatable missions or patrols before they can progress the story.
It seems many people simply want instant gratification now and want to be level 50 in 3 hours or less. Personally I would prefer STO would go back to the original leveling system because it seems a lot of people only run through the main story mission in a rush to get to level 50 so they can play end game content and buy their level 50 C-Store ship as quickly as possible.
Because of the immense amount of XP each story mission gives you I actually decided to abandon them early on so that I can explore other ways to gain XP and experience content that most people would simply avoid. People can generally get to level within 3 to 7 days depending on how dedicated or desperate they are to get to level 50 ASAP. Me? It probably took a leisurely 3 - 4 weeks to max out my KDF and Fed toons.
I have occasionally gone back to do the main missions but I have still not progressed very far. My Fed toon has only gone as far as "The Doomsday Device" in the Klingon War story arc and my KDF toon has only complete up to the Fek'lhri story arc. In terms of overall main story line, both are pretty close to each other. The "Temporal Ambassador" is only 3 missions away for my Fed toon and 4 missions away for my KDF toon. I have not skipped any missions.
Despite the lack of any advanced equipment you get from the story missions I can hold my own in Elite STF missions with very basic equipment. I enjoy the fact that I need to rely on tactics rather than spamming abilities and doing massive amounts of DPS so that I can kill a Borg Cube every 5 seconds.
So I guess my question is why does almost everyone want to rush to max level as quickly as possible?
I levelled my first toon by DOFFing and explore missions, I don't even remember leaving Sirius sector other than going into Delta Volanis. I didn't even do the mirror event until max level and then it was for the dil. Leveling in this game is ridiculously fast.
If your DOFFs keep dying from assignments, may I suggest what I do when I level a new toon?
You sound like you have at least 1 level 50 toon. To get around the issue of white DOFFs being killed off, just do this:
Log on to your existing level 50(s) and hit the mail station. Stuff some higher quality officers in from your duty roster there that you don't need and then send them to yourself. Account bank doesn't work for this (!!!) btw, so make sure you type in the correct @handle.
Log on to your new toon and take them out. Voila! You get a whole bunch of new officers that your other toon didn't need. Also, if you don't need them on the leveling toon anymore, you can just send them back again.
Also, don't underestimate the amount of XP you can get from assignments. I skipped from early level 48 straight to 50 from just one critical success on a Caitian Diaspora assignment! Of course criticals are hard to come by with white/green DOFFs, but thats what above tip is for.
I think a lot of people forget is the old Mirror leveling is not just to gain levels. Its also to obtain expertise for the reputation projects. If you have old toons from launch, you tend to have millions of expertise lying around. But for new toons, its a pain to accumulate.
If it weren't for the old Mirror U event, there is no way my new Romulan captain would have gotten the expertise needed to complete the Omega and Romulan reputation grinds. I doubt I will roll a new character in STO unless they give us an alternative to the old Mirror U event to get fast XP and expertise.
I created several characters in early December who hit level 50 in early February by daily doffing assignments. If I had sent them green and blue doffs from my mains, they would have leveled much more quickly.
I also have a Gorn banking mule that I started at launch who hit level 50 only through doffing. He has yet to run a mission (granted, Cryptic did advance him to level 20 before STO became FTP).

Do what I did. Just stop leveling alts.
I have two klinks a rom and a fed that will never be 50 now.
I even had some ship purchases planed for them but since they won't hit 50 I won't be spending Zen on them.
To me mirror lvling was fun. Missions after the first time are a drag. I'd rather just spend that money and time on another game.
Just do DOFF missions once per day with them. You'll level eventually.
