Revamped ESD Security

This may be quibbling over something petty, but Security falls under Operations, so Security officers should be wearing gold, not red. Can I/we expect to see this in the new ESD revamp?

In STO Security is a branch of Tactical as is Command.
    So red it is ;).

Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though.
JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

Security has always been part of Operations, though... what sense does it make to suddenly merge "Command" and "Security"? Security and Command have entirely different roles.

Probably because Red is still the command color, but they wanted to make the Security Escorts Redshirts?

There is no command division in STO. It's a game design change - every class can be in command. Red is tactical and security in STO.

It's not like they haven't changed the colors before. I mean, how many colors did TMP have again?

Security was originally red, and then it was yellow, and now it's red again. That's just how things go.

Please no, I don't want to debate this again.

You're the captain of the ship, therefore you're in Command. Worf wore gold while the ENT-D's security chief, but red while working on DS9, because he was part of the command staff there.

That's about what I was thinking. >_> Ugh.

From TOS to TNG they just shifted department colors around, but TNG to STO they reordered departments entirely.

Regardless; I reject your reality and substitute my own! So there. I WIN. LALALALALA etc etc etc.

I suppose my opinion doesn't really matter, Trek canon consistency is questionable at the best of times, and CBS has given Cryptic the reins for this, but it's... ugh. Undoing something for the sake of a bad joke. Shame, though.

The only reason red and gold shifted was when they put data in blue it clashed with his makeup lol so they switched colours around.

but it would be more cannon for STO to keep TNG etc colours

This may sound weird, but what does Data in blue have anything to do with the red/gold change? If they hadn't changed, he would have been in red. He wears gold after the change. If Data was originally to wear blue, that would mean he would be in Science or Medical. Data's an Engineer.

Data is Operations. In TNG he fulfilled the same role Spock did. The Enterprise-D did not have a Chief Science Officer.

    Neither did Voyager.

At some point prior to STO, there was a TOS Renaissance in Starfleet where they brought back some of the old traditions seen in TOS but nowhere else.

Those 2409-era uniforms that were an obvious 'update' to the TOS uniforms (it even said so in the flavor text with the tailor update), for instance.

There were once again Chief Science Officers on ships, and Captains were now expected to lead away teams just as Kirk did -- rather than Riker leading the away team while Picard was on the bridge.

Without a Command track, the three departments were organized into 2 sub-divisions.

Tactical (for the ship), and Security (for the interior of the ship and other ground actions)

Engineering (to keep the ship going and repaired), Operations (to effectively run the ship).

Medical (for injuries and medical science), and Science (for actual science and exploration, including experiments).

I am more bothered about the fact, that the uniforms in general are inconsistent. The only place you see nice and consistent uniforms is the Starfleet Academy. Ie, visit the 'First Contact Day' Enterprise.. even the crew here is inconsistent. As well as all these 'modern' uniforms, ie Sierra etc... they don't look as proper 'descendants' of Trek... with all the leather'ish around...

I wish Odyssey was made as a 'descendant' for the Trek uniform, both it would fit the Academy pattern ones, as well as it'd simply, be.. you know... more like they added a modern variant of the uniforms, while keeping the 'tradition'... But I guess.. eh.. <.<
