In my personal opinion or fact, whatever you call it...
I LUVE, reading through the threads and seeing people fight back and forth.... It's a mayor LUL moment for me... The way some people like something, and someone else comes along and tells them why they are wrong, and watching the fight take off... it's so hilarious....

I like it because it's an out of game method of conveying information; and also, in the rare occasion that people start something great here.
Other than that, I dislike a great many portions of the STO forums, including trolls, forum addicts, rules, and atmosphere.

Missing the good ol' days of PvP: Legacy of Romulus to Season 9 My List of Useful Links, Recently Updated November 25 2017!
1. Good conversations about the Star Trek universe (thought at times it turns into heated arguments).
2. Advice about ship builds, weapons and tactics.
3. The only place where we can connect with a developer (if they have the balls to show up in here). Well mostly two or three developers whom regularly visit the forums.
4. A place to rant
5. A place to lay out ideas about improving an aspect of this game. My personal favorites are conversations about carriers, ship interiors and anything that relates to my beloved Jem'Hadar Dreadnought carrier (I wish it had a Universal Lt.Commander slot )
Those are the reasons I like the forum.
One day Cryptic will be free from their Perfect World overlord. Until that day comes, they will continue to pamper the whales of this game, and ignore everyone that isn't a whale.
the community knows each other very well all the way from the useless spam messages iconians attemps to pass off as feedback on someone elses opinion all the way to bluegeek providing very honest points to some questions. i mean how can you hate anyone on here? its like home for us anonymous sto keyboard warriors.
the other reason is because its usually more fun to be on then STO.
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
I personally enjoy how receptive everyone is to me [EDIT: "attempting"] to add some light-hearted humor. Humor is a great way for people to connect. That and bacon.

Did someone say bacon!?
Yes I agree with you, humor (and sillyness) is great. Another thing I enjoy is to try help when I come across some threads. Haven't done much of that though, lately..

Lol Trendy
You are now my BFF, all just because you mentioned bacon... :O
"OH hail the precious Bacon...."
which brings to curiosity..... Trendy do you know if Tacofangs is made out of Bacon or just beef??? :P

and true... enough Trendy... today is Taco Tuesday... Well then in that case I'll take 2 Tacofangs Happy Deals... Don't forget the side of extra Bacon...
I came here a few years back, and gained considerable knowlege about gameplay.Anything I had learned, is now Obsolete.
Now I just come here for amusement. I have met some interesting people in the forum.Like a virtual Star Trek Convention.(Came for the education, but stayed for the snark):P
Don't give up hope just yet. Today is Taco Tuesday afterall!
I guess this doff promo pack came out due to a low cup supply. Have to have something to wash down those taco's. I think the beef was replaced with gagh though.
I enjoy trying to make connections with those I game with...
When I played EQII (my first MMO), I made fantastic friends through the forums and thoroughly enjoyed running around in game with them and then sharing all the jackass things we did the night before. I felt more connected to that game because of my participation on the forums. I did threads on the forums for new and returning players, titled "What's Happening? (in EQII)" themed after the old What's Happening sitcom. I had fun with it.
I enjoy gaming humor, and learning about the game and helping others along the way.
Seeing devs interact with the forumites, the community reps as well...
It's just fun, it adds dimension to my experience with that game.
I generally will gravitate towards a games forum that has become my mainstay game. And I am digging STO quite a bit.
Finally two words I learned today that have changed my life forever.
Not to be a debbie downer, but I pretty much despise game forums, STO included.
I come to be informed of new developments, interact with the devs, and have intelligent and thoughtful conversation with other players and doing that requires me to sift thru page after page of never-ending non-constructive criticism, complaining, and empty threats. Which is an instant turn off and I close the tab.
I don't understand why it has to be this way, but it certainly doesn't welcome new people or foster any type of intelligent adult discussion. It makes it clear the forums are nothing but a cesspool to be avoided at all costs unless you absolutely, positively have no other choice. Or a great place to go and rant and rave about some insignificant aspect of the game that's irritating you that the incompetent devs must fix immediately otherwise you're leaving.

Just my worthless 2 cents.
Honestly, I agree with you, at least in terms of STO. The only other MMO forum I've been to was actually quite welcoming and, admittedly, when I came here back in August, it felt welcoming in here, too. But, it seems that, ever since Season 8 dropped, it does feel like it's been nothing but those problems. Season 8, Arc, Season 8.5, the Galaxy collection, nothing but complaints.
It is disheartening to go through, I agree. What's even more disheartening is the idea that those very people attacking you for not agreeing with them. That's the big thing here. You liked Arc? You liked the Galaxy? You're nothing more than a Cryptic apologist. I don't know why I keep coming back here, though. It riles me up a lot. I guess it's some sort of punishment.

if that is what you see then you may as well close the curtains, throw your job away and dump your family and become a recluse. humans always compete with each other and thats just the way we are. sometimes it gets destructive as we savage humans are always like, sometimes it is fun and other times its as you want, constructive. but this is not a perfect world.

In a word, the LCs and the news posts. I also like helping out with builds and surfing Ten Forward.
You never helped me with a build... You only have eyes for Bran, Smirk, Taco and now Trendy too.
And I get.. Jamz. Well, anyway. Without this board, I would have never started this love/hate relationship with you, and probably I would never be able to confess my love for some certain Community Managers
I like the STO forums because I enjoy pointing out the obvious, pointing out how reality works (and not how we think it works), and generally pointing out how people are just plain wrong. I also like the STO forums because my posts generally don't get scrubbed whenever I have something negative to say about Cryptic.
Sometimes, the devs even comment on what I have to say and treat me like an adult instead of a customer service issue that needs to be corrected. The fact that some of my feedback on the forums has resulted in positive changes to the game will continue to encourage me to post feedback on the forums, since I see this as an ongoing effort.
There's also the slightest bit of hope that I might educate someone, and if at least one person has been enlightened by anything I have to say, then the forums are worth participating in.
It also seems to keep my debate skills sharp, since there are a few people on the STO forums who are capable of debating me without resorting to ad hominems and namecalling, and my own position on various aspects of STO has changed as a result of debates on the STO forums. It's just a matter of separating the wheat from the chaff. And there's way more chaff on the STO forums.

Visual confirmation would likely suggest beef.
Welp, just beef... I was hoping for Bacon... Well guess I'll have to cancel my Tacofang Happy Deal... And I made it to go..
I come here to learn about playing the game better.
I also have joined the Literary Challenge crew because I like writing about my character
Don't give up hope just yet. Today is Taco Tuesday afterall!
