Cannot equip both an Armory Officer (Ground) and an Armory Officer (Space)

I have the following two duty officers:

  • Jeffery Hildebrand (Armory Officer — Ground: Chance to beam in an additional Phaser or Disruptor Turret)
  • Dijak (Armory Officer — Space: Chance to summon a Tethered Quantum Mine when activating Dispersal Patterns)

I am unable to place them both on active duty at the same time. I can use either one alone, but trying to put the second on active duty fails with the message: "You cannot equip more than 1 items of that category"

I've learned from an archived forum thread that Armory Officers have previously been deliberately restricted to a single equip to prevent overpowering, which makes sense when they were all Ground traits, but restricting having a Ground and a Space one slotted seems unnecessarily punitive, and I suspect probably an oversight.

Submitted ticket ID #2,347,201 in game. (Wow, really, more than 2 million tickets?)

Is there official confirmation anywhere that this is by design? I don't see what possible issue this restriction could be trying to fix, seeing as it's impossible to benefit from both Doffs at the same time even if they are both equipped.

Are there other specialisations affected by this?

Yes, it has been stated before this is how it works. It's not a bug.

And yes, all specializations work like this, if it happens to have both a ground and space varieties.

This is "by design" in the sense that the following is true:
which makes sense when they were all Ground traits

When designing the Doff system they never foresaw that somebody in the future would get the bright idea to add space versions of ground doffs and ground versions of space doffs, thereby interfering with the stack limit of various specializations.

The system was never intended to be used this way; stack limits are based on specialization, not region (space/ground) or active power.

All of that being said, they are aware of the issue already and would like to split the limits based on region but it's going to be something that will have to wait until a major content update so they can spare engineer time to adjust the code to do something it wasn't intended to do in the first place.

I agree with the above poster. This may have been intended originally with the DOFF system, but it's outdated now. Same issue when you try to use 2 fabrication engis, one for turrets and another for rsp. This needs to be looked at and fixed, but then, so do hundreds of other bugs.
