Ship Customization Bug?

edited March 2014 in PC Gameplay Bug Reports
I have been trying to customize my new Tactical Escort and for some reason when trying to use refit nacelle and pylon parts it only changes on one side of the ship. Makes my ship look lopsided.

There also seems to be an issue with changing of the colors for the patterns. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. And sometimes when I go into customization it changes the ship back to a basic template. I have to exit then reenter customization to see my customized ship.

I have noticed the color change and template issues with other ships but the other issue with my Tactical Escort is something I've never experienced before. I like to spend a lot of time customizing my ships til I get them just to my liking, but this is annoying!

Ok first do as I say not as I do. ;)

    1) Go to shipyard, select active ship or shuttle you wish to customize.

    2) Go to ship customization officer (aka ship tailor) now this is where it gets tricky but it works on KDF & FED.

    3) Select advanced then Randomization*. Which might try to sell you the C-store/Zen items/options.

Either just keep clicking randomization slowly until you see it no longer say it will cost zen.
Or click on the item the Randomization changed & set it back to the free options.
BUT do NOT click undo it will rebug again!

Now to select your COLOR click on the color box, select your color(s).

Next choose your ship color patterns/decals (Virgo, Leo, etc for your Hull, saucer, etc). You may do this for each section of the ship from the Hull to your Mission Pod (if applicable) & so on.

More info on the options available to customize for your starship - http://sto.gamepedia.com/Playable_starship#Customization

Please note if this is your FIRST edit to this ship you can do this for free unless you choose a different bridge or C-store item. You could have accidentally tried to edit in past but not done anything (click the purchase button without doing anything to the ship will still count to the system as a edit thus losing that first free edit).

This work around should work if not reply again & I will include screen shots of each step.

Please be patient they do try to address things when they can & correct them when they can.

*DEVS please look into the randomization button in ship customization as it seems to correct this issue for me. Pardon any typos. Thank you.

The refit parts on only one side is a known issue. I'll have to look into the colors issue and make sure that's in the bug database.

Thanks for the reports and for the workaround.

I had just run into this issue with my Fleet Mogh Cruiser. Everything appears to work fine but patterns will not reflect color changes. I cannot work out what may be affecting this function.

Edit: The randomization button trick did clear this bug for me. Weird. Thx for the tip on the work around.

I am glad you found this fanboy3k & it worked for you too.

So far everyone I have told said it has worked for all of them (Romulans, Klingons & Federation players). Many had NO clue it was a bug. Some assumed it was to do with the certain metal/material options not allowing color(s) which I feel might be partially true as it may be where the bug is located. ( <--- DEVS might wanna check the code in that section as that is where I have a feeling the error is located in that code)

Yet the randomization button seems to correct the bug allowing even those people to now make a colorful ship again. ;)

Your welcome I told Bran too if I recall right. :)

I still as of today have people in the fleet stating - you can't, some ships have certain materials that cost zen, they reflect or they look like they shine, etc & not at all true as I have many colorful different material (even shiny) ships to show you can make them colorful with the work around which is simple Randomization button & a few clicks then viola!

I have confirmed the color issue, along with the use of Randomize as a workaround, and made sure the issue is reported.

I have confirmed the color issue, along with the use of Randomize as a workaround, and made sure the issue is reported.

I recall that there have been problems with the Ship Customization colour selection previously (sometime last year iirc), unless this is simply the same problem that was either never fixed or has somehow managed to return once again.

Yes it has been going on since LoR was first released I am pretty sure is when I first ran into it. I figured by now people would know my trick to getting it to unbug. Granted totally Random the Randomization Button is a quick fix for it. ;)

An old post I found mentioning the exact issue applying to rom & non rom ships clearly mentioned more then once my quick fix for the bug out of many to choose from was this one from last June Ship Tailor Color Alteration Broken

A higher ranking person in STO said I should try to post on here more to help the forum users not just twitter users; thus my reply's. I hope they help. :)
