This is what I have learned in the year I have been in STO and PvP here.

In order to be competitive at the high levels you must find the most broken and OP mechanic and then use it ad nauseum until the queues quit on a nightly basis.

that was never true. well, to a degree i guess. remember when subnuke doffs were op? TRH used to beat teams that were loaded up on them. WITH OUT using them. was all about timing to be honest. but those days are long dead. sure matches can still be won by using far play against cheese, but with 2 equal teams cheese will win.

Right now, if I step out to PvP, I'm not sure if I beat somebody due to correct timing and response of my abilities, or because I had those abilities to trigger in the first place because of consoles, passives, yada yada.

Besides, cryptic nearly killed pvp, and even pve with romulan master race and lockbox/lobi ships, cross faction consoles, lockbox/duty officer pack special doffs.

Yep, it was a short term financial decision. The money-grab mentality seems to be the rule of the day at Cryptic Studios. Someone said, "If we obsolete every damage build in the game, they'll all have to level new toons, buy new ships, get more consoles, open more lockboxes, etc..."

    edit:

I honestly don't understand why Cryptic continues to overlook the idea that building a truly engaging, balanced and challenging game will result in long term financial gains. Attracting real gamers, the kind that drops thousands on their games, would do a lot more for them than the course they are currently following. Just the promise of such a thing has brought 40 million dollars of crowd funding to Star Citizen.

I currently believe everything in pvp is balanced. There is literally a counter to EVERYTHING that can be done to you.
Lots of spam, we have Faw to clear it.
Too much faw? we have scrambles and fbp
Vapers running wild? fbp again or detection builds like mine.
To many healers? Vapers or multiple Subnukes
Escorts pressure damage? Disable or drain builds.
Universal consoles? Every one has something that counters it.

PVP is currently building a ship to counter other players ships. Choose how you want to do that and have fun.

Pvp goes through phases of what is most popular. Remember when it was "Escorts Online" or when sci was just insanely OP...Now we have vapers. Build a ship to counter that and profit.

    Hi,..

sorry, is this a Joke ?

If you really think PVP is balanced ?

I dont think so.. and yes op here and op there.. in the past it was the Skill of a Pilot to win a match.. today they win with the best P2W Consoles,.. party tools,.. or some BS.

And after the last Patch i think STO chance the Name in..

    *sigh*

I don't even really know what PVP is like any more: I can't be bothered with all the grinding that's required to get up to date (haven't even started on Nukara or Dyson rep yet, and only at tier 2 with Omega and Rommie).

Last time I set foot in an arena I was a horrible liability to my team: I don't expect I'll be trying again for several months at least.

That's what I get for going on 6 month breaks from the game I guess.

Sooo, guilty of most sins here, (10 chars) have an 80k hull FAW boat, not useful in pvp (there are 100% shield bypass builds that can 1hk me) Have an avenger maxed out phaser build = useless, have a wells time sci vessel = makes other people cry, too useful I call it a cheese wedge and quit flying it months ago... So yes PVP is broken imbalanced and rarely fun... But you CAN kill and be killed (pay to win!!)

yeah they are. They're taking the bata your ship is using and using it themselves. I bug reported it but it's been a few months.

Hangar items, Tactical Officer Security Escorts, Shards, and ship "pets" are all screenshotting and absorbing a player's currently applied buffs on the time of deployment. This bug was created with Sphere of Influence and the three piece Obelisk set with the EPtX transferring to hangar items when activated. The "set bonus" is unfortunately currently applied to everything within the game regardless of the set bonus.

No Naz it's not just you, can't remember the last time I had fun pvping in this game.

Best guess would be when TD started up. Now it's just a mess.

Though I still enjoy the game, when you get away from pvp and dps stfs and all that junk. You can have a bit of fun.

I am pretty new to pvp in this game been playng it for like 2 months now. (just wanted to build up the ships/gear) I can say without a doubt that one thing that keeps ppl from PvP is the very volatile nature of some of the ppl who do it. Some talk like a bunch of lil kids who just discovered swear words and some seem to enjoy demeaning comments directed at you if you beat them and or they beat you.

Ppl who find enjoyment spawn camping with greater numbers, and proceed to litter the chat with awful comments, its stuff like this that keep a lot of ppl from ever coming back to it. (and funny enough it seems to be fleet related being that its really the same fleets all the time, just and observation)

In this game is in no means the worst ive seen but I can see how a handful of spiteful ppl can really just make it so a newer person to PvP would just not even bother. So in a lot ways the ppl that PvP are the cause for it not being so popular.

There was a Forumpocalypse in 2012...forums were reset.

Also as noted, forum join date has nothing to do with play date - there are plenty of folks that have been playing for some time that have never logged on to the forums. If they were to join today, even if they'd been playing since the start - it would show as today. Cause, it's a forum join date - not a started playing date.

well for me the biggest problem is the vape... no one likes to die in less than 1 or 2 seconds even with neutroniums and field gens... and in the queues are a lot of vapers so less and less people go to the queues... thats one of the reasons i dont queue so much... 1 vape if im on my sci i can counter it... but more than one its impossible...

Thanks VD, love how people were all ready to jump all over me simply for saying the trash talk they describe doesn't exist in the abundance they would like you to believe.

In my experience, that kind of trash talk usually only happens after someone starts complaining about being ganked, or spawn camped... or shot at all. It's very, very rarely spontaneous.

Anyway, if either of you who questioned my vet status had been here before F2P you would have seen a forum join date of Feb 2010 under my name (which would have been bmr1580).

Well, you could do that, but I haven't logged into STO for about a month now. The game is a joke these days.

I've noticed it tends to involve the manner in which the person complains. There's folks that complain and something may or may not be said. There's folks that complain...and damn if you can't just picture them blubbering via text, as if the spittle was flying at the screen, snot was dripping from their nostrils, and tears were forming in the corner of their eyes.

With that, sure - some of it might be a bully mentality thing - but I still think much of it is a defense mechanism - folks literally cannot believe somebody would get that upset...so it's along the lines of a "you're kidding, right?" thing - testing it, not believing it. Sometimes the person is just trolling...sometimes the person needs some serious therapy.

Like, "I recorded this and am reporting you for hacking the game!" or "you must be cheating, I can tank 3 cubes at once!"

Is that what you mean by how they complain?

Yeah, along those lines...they have to be trolling - they can't be serious - they're asking for some smacktalk to help pass the time.

Not that it doesn't go down the way you describe (it usually does) but I only saw one person question you in this thread. != means not equal to. My reply was basically the succinct version of what VD posted after me.

    Also as noted...

I could have done the "as noted by" instead and probably should have...but I'm trying to get this last guy to 50 so I can take a break - otherwise, I might end up uninstalling the game to go play Bad Piggies instead.
