It seemed at first mirror ships were basically 40 freebies with a reverse Ensign Boff. Lately though it seems some of the newer ones have drastic changes, better for the most part. Take the Negh on KDF, its normal version has 3 Engi slots (Com/Lt com + ensign) which imo is insane, and silly...Idk I've simply never liked any ship with 3 of the same Boff slots...Now look at its mirror version, It switches the Ensign out for a Tact, and the Lt com for a sci. (giving this mobile Cruiser, with a 9 turn rate the ability to slot GW1 too)
Also the mirror Dhelan, though I still prefer the fleet variant of it, the Lt com engi Boff makes it feel like a squishy Mogai, then theres the Mirror Heavy cruiser, similar to the Negh it got a Lt com sci Boff instead of engineering, which is nice seeing how the only fed cruiser that was sci oriented was the Ambassador.
So what do you think of the newer mirror ship boff switches?, And what ships would you like to see mirror versions of?
Personally I'd like a Mirror Deridex for my Rom, I like the ship, but not enough to get a fleet version lol...
I have the mirror Dhelan and really find the ship to be supurb. I have it set up as a beam boat with lots of DEM/FAW spam and it works really well. In addition, it has a really cool looking ship skin. It's definitely the best mirror ship I have owned and it's a good hold over until I get the Fleet Arkif.
The mirror ships are remarkably good. They are my first choice for ship upgrades while leveling if anything because they are cost effective.
I recently purchased 2 Mirror Neg'Vars for 2 toons. The addition of the Lt.Com Sci boff slot suddenly makes this a very viable and durable science cruiser.
I've bought and been using the Mirror Universe Heavy Cruiser Retrofit when they hit the market for my Tactical character. It's a great ship with a nice science lean that's easy to use, with great turn rate, and effective in combat. I have to many good things to say about it. I don't see myself replacing it anytime in the near future if ever.
I've also used the Mirror Star Cruiser and Mirror Assault Cruiser on my Old Engineer before I got a Fleet Excel. I always enjoyed their setups as well. I liked the Star Cruiser more however for Engineering/Science heavy state. It was a nice seamless transition after using a Venture Class for a long time. Given the only difference console/boff wise between them was the Star Cruiser having another engineer console and a Lieutenant Commander Engineering station. Over all they where cheap and effective ships.
What I like to see more than anything is a Mirror Universe Galaxy Class with a Tactical Lean. That or maybe a Mirror Defiant.
Improving? that suggests they all sucked, I present you the Mirror Vo'Qov! or however you spell it, probably the best mirror ship though also like the Mirror Soverign

Mirror Vo'Quv is one of the tankiest ships out there. And I've been flying a Mirror Raptor a lot on my KDF. Got a Mirror Dehlan on my Romulan, and various mirror ships on my Feds. SO I have at least one Mirror ship on each character.
I can't take it anymore! Could everyone just chill out for two seconds before something CRAZY happens again?!

I am hopeful the improvement trend continues, I'd really like to get a Mirror Escort (just the normal Saber Class) at some point for both the Skin, and perhaps a bit of different layout than the Fleet or Retrofit. Even though it's a Mirror Ship, maybe less Tactical in it's Boff layout (Lt instead of Lt. Commander) and more Engineering or Science.
I have a borg captain in each faction, and they all use a mirror universe origin in their storyline. so I prefer to use mirror ships for them and do a good job with them too.... I do wish they would add the mirror skin for the delta flyer.. you can get a mirror delta flyer shuttle pet, but not for the flyer you can actually fly.
I've always been a big fan of mirror ships, if nothing else they offer you the same prime universe ship only with a different hull model - and of course the ever fantastic paint job that can be used for prime/fleet ships (as far as I know).
I agree they have been getting better, I love the small tweaks to the console layout and boff seating and I hope future MU ships get the same treatment - or perhaps older ships get tweaked too.
On the Federation side they are plentiful and just as good as any other T4 vessel, and I've heard really good things about the mirror heavy cruiser that's just been released.
On my toon I own both the MU Qin and the Negh'Var and I've also considered grabbing myself a Vo'Quv in the future if I fancy trying a bit of carrier combat.
I've no real hopes or requests as to what MU ship I'd like to see next, but I do hope that eventually every prime universe ship will have a MU alternative.
So what do you think of the newer mirror ship boff switches?, And what ships would you like to see mirror versions of?
It's not just on the newer mirror ships. The mirror Qin is a vast improvement over the normal Qin, getting rid of the almost useless Tac ensign slot, turning it into a nice and useful ship.
Same goes for the Vo'quv. The mirror version is much more versatile than the old one and it's profiting a lot from switching the LtS into an LtE.
In the end, the mirror ships basically put the KDF ahead when it comes to the choice of free lvl 40 ships ("free" as in: you can buy them after a 5 minute foundry loot run). Before you had 6 Fed and 5 KDF ships with unqiue setups to choose from, now it's 7 Fed, 9 KDF.
the only shame is that there no fleet versions of mirror ships.
mirror layout for most ship is way better then original one.
That's a good idea. They could add another moderately expensive project to the star base shipyard to unlock mirror ships - either fleet versions of ships we have already, or mirror versions of the fleet ships themselves.
It wouldn't need to be a full holding or anything like that, just a one off project.
This is wishful thinking at it will never happen, but perhaps Cryptic is also reserving such an idea so that MU faction captains have ships to use at their endgame eh?
I actually find that the Mirror Heavy Cruiser is a much bigger improvement over the other Fed Mirror ships. Why? Because it wasn't a skin swap; it made them think. The original trio was essentially A in stats, but B in skin. Thus, if you liked the Star Cruiser, for example, yet you hated its stats, all you had to do was get a Mirror Assault Cruiser and BAM, a good Star Cruiser.
The Mirror Heavy Cruiser turned a more Eng-heavy ship into something more Tac- and Sci-oriented by shifting an Eng console to the Tac console section and turned its Sci BOFF layout from Lieutenant to Lieutenant Commander, allowing a bit more of its Sci abilities to be used.
That's what some of these Mirror ships should be: ships that are still low in rank, but show off the power of the Terran Empire by making them stronger Tac wise.
What I don't want it something that would make other ships obsolete. Thus, I hope they rework a ship like the Galaxy-class before they introduce a Mirror variant.
They're improving out of the necessity of making them more interesting.
The initial rounds of mirror ships were just skin-swaps of free level 40 ships; they're not bad ships, but they're boring, and outdated. The Mirror Vo'quv was the first mirror ship that actually broke the mold and did something different, and the result was that people love the Mirror Vo'quv.
These new mirror ships, the Fed and KDF ones are actually boff-layout clones of the level 40 Ambassador and Kamarag from the last anniversary. They probably took very little design and testing work to actually make, so they're a win for Cryptic, and we got something different and interesting. We got some actual, honest variety added to the ships floating around ESD (I loves me some Heavy Cruiser). The Mirror Dhelan is a fantastic alternative to anyone who doesn't like the Ha'feh but can't afford a store ship. They're a win for all of us, too.
So it's a win for everyone and I'd love to see this trend continued in future lockboxes (Mirror Nova? Mirror Saber? Mirror K'Tanco or Somraw? Mirror... which Romulan ship isn't selling well?
The mirror cruisers we got with the Hirogen boxes have the exact same layout as the anniversary ships we got last year(Ambassador and Kamarag Retrofit).
That said, I do love the idea of bringing the lower level ships to max level like that and hope we get a Mirror K'tanco soon.

They're not improving mirror ships, they're simply picking different ships to steal boff layouts from.

I'd be happy with a mirror Aquarius.

They provide an inexpensive way for people to try different things in end game ships.
They often have quite useful boff arrangements.
That skin isn't half bad either.
In my view, they're of particular use for Romulans and the KDF.
With their comparative lack of choice in ship lineup they're a useful addition.
My only beef is how an MU ship is faction locked once its picked out of the lock box.
I'd much prefer it if it were only locked to faction once opened.
