Tour the Galaxy Problems

patcrowpatcrow Member Posts: 89 Arc User
Tour the Galaxy is now nearly impossible to finish now. I have Borg XII engines and I can't complete it within the 15 minutes time limit. I can't imagine anyone completing it with standard warp engines.

Before 8.5, you guys gave us a full hour. Please put it back the way it was please.

In my opinion, the Tour is no longer worth running. You only have 15 minutes to complete which is nearly impossible to run even with the best of engines. If your pc lags even a little you will lose time. Add to that that the amount of EC you get is smaller than it was, this mission is a complete bust. They really need to keep this at an hour or, for compromise sake, drop it to 30 minutes. This is only my viewpoint and I know that some will agree with this assessment.

I think 15 mins is too short, but i do like having a certain time limit that is a bit tight, so that people dont just stroll around. it creates a sense of urgency and having to try and maximise your time.

i think 25 would be ideal, but even 20 would help.

With Borg Engines and full driver coil I managed to do it with 10 seconds to spare, so not a great deal of time to make errors...

I also did it on a toon without the borg engines doing a standard 9.97 and with DI for the slipstream (had no affect on sector speed otherwise) I got no where near, i had 3 sector blocks to complete and would have needed at least another 4 minutes.

My average was about 18 min on the old tour, a more realistic time of 20min would be favourable. Even with Borg Engines and no driver coil I think it wouldnt be possible, so it would mean everyone respecing into driver coil to be able to complete it in full.

It does give about 450,000ec for a full tour so it is more than the old tour, but unfortunately not sufficient to make this worth the effort

I am able to do the tour with 1 minute and 37 seconds left, I also use the borg mkXII engines. Start the tour while in sector space instead of club 47. It makes a great difference.
Some people use the transwarp to mission trick, but I don't do that.

Maybe you are doing something wrong?

The tour is now perfect as it is for me

I can also do it with Assimilated X engines and max Driver Coil skill on my Fed Rom in a Risian Corvette.

ETA: Just did it KDF Side with the same engines and DC skill in a Fleet B'Rel; with about 5 seconds to spare.

i tried it last night for kicks and giggles
now the toon i used has no point in driver coil and i used the maco engine
i even pulled the 'optimized' route off the wiki

i made it to defera when the time ran out
seems lame when it docks you time for changing maps
at one point i had 10 min left, went to the next sector, 'ohh that was too much time, lets take 4 min off'

for the record, i can switch maps in less than 3 seconds, quad core cpu @ 4.2 ghz

The Tour used to be a great social gathering..now, just a grindfest for the most elite, as everyone else loses out on earning even what they had during the previous nerf.

    Way to go Cryptic :P

Finished it on another KDF toon with about 2:30 to spare. Borg X engines and max DC skill in a Breen Heavy Raider.

ETA: And again in the Risian Corvette from above with 1:11 to spare.

    Things to remember:

    Plan your route.

You can start and finish anywhere; as long as you hit every point, you are good to go.

Minimize redundant travel through sectors...although I haven't found a way to completely eliminate it yet.

Stay off the edges of the maps so you aren't stopped and asked if you want to warp when you don't.

Cut corners wherever possible; slow down to do this when necessary.

Use the fastest, tightest turn escort/raider you can get - but don't sweat the tier.

Borg Assimilated X engines or above is a must; as is the highest Driver Coil skill you can manage...plus the bonuses from personal doff missions that will buff the DC skill.

    Diplomacy 3 helps.

It's easier for KDF than Fed.

I haven't done it with engine or turn consoles; nor transwarp doffs...so our time can only improve with a ship tailored to this mission.

I too do not like the new Tour the Galaxy criteria. I have tried a few times now without being able to complete in time. I always need almost another minute or two pending loading times. It;s irritating flying through Borg space when timing-out.

I will have to try the starting the Tour from sector space. That might be enough of a jump-start to allow me to finish.

Sad that is now seems designed to impede players from finishing now. Add another sector, lessen the reward(s), & then add a very restrictive time limit. Not all of us have a special build just for the race. I agree there should be a cooldown for limiting useage, but the 15 minute completion limit is too harsh. I've always thought of the race as a nice minigame to have fun with before getting back to the regular content, but now it's more disappointing.

Seems a few things in this 8.5 update have been punitive towards the playerbase though, more grinding chores than celebrating another year. There are more, & improved, features for everyone which shouldn't be overlooked which is good. There are also features that seems to keep getting pushed back as well.

I've played for about 3 years, and have never done this mission.

I WAS going to try it soon - just for the experience - but now I think I'll save myself the frustration.

If the 15 minutes includes the load time as well, that is not just 'harsh' but downright monstrous.

Isn't the 'Daily' aspect of it now MORE than enough to stop people from 'earning too much', or whatever the issue is?

Sometimes I really do wonder why they make the decisions they do.

It's odd that you say that, since I've always found the Tour The Galaxy mission (historically) to be faster to complete on the Federation side due to a more favorable starting position than on the Klingon side. I used to run the Tour on blueside using Common [SSR] Warp Engines in under 15 minutes (and with a MACO set could do it in just under 12 minutes). Doing the same on redside using Common [SSR] Warp Engines on a 3-set Honor Guard equipped B'rel Retrofit would usually require 17-18 minutes and required Marauder 3 in order to access Sirius Sector in order to avoid needing to transwarp out of Cardassian Space.

For me, the key to fast Tour times has *always* been having [SSR] on the Warp Drive. Being able to Slipstream once every 90 seconds is just too darn useful for being able to get across long distances efficiently.

Completed it today fed side with some points in Coi, the obelisk warp core and the borg mk xii engines with 10 seconds to spare. This was also started on the starbase and with my old route that worked well for me before Tau Dewa block was added.

Going to try starting in the Pelia sector since that one is the one that generally causes me to transwarp/backtrack.

15 minutes is annoying and doesn't really allow for any mistakes in your route or any technical issues you may run into.

I did it few times across multiple alts and it is feasible. I am taking between 13 to 14 minutes (1 to 2 minutes to spare).

I have Driver Coil at 6, Assimilated Engines, Obelisk Warp Core (50% cooldown reduction on slipstream).

Starting in sector space helps a lot.

I think the route I used is fine but there could be a better one.

I can't complete with a MK X borg engine and 0 coil skills. I am just a casual player for missions like this, not focusing on straight out speed. On my characters without borg engines, they are out completely.

I guess the point of the nerf was to stop most people playing it.
Seems kinda of stupid for a company to invest resources in making it out of reach for players instead of just removing it completely.
Then again, we are talking about Cryptic.
And nothing surprises me when it comes to these guys.

You guys took a very popular event, and mauled it with the nerfbat not just once, but twice. It is now a pathetic hulk of what it used to be. Insufficient rewards, unreasonable conditions, and complete removal of any sense of a race. The feeling of cruising across sector blocks with dozens of other players all at once... that mass beamup from club 47 and warp out in Sol sector space... this is the stuff that gets people playing events Cryptic. A feeling of competitiveness and then accomplishment. Immersion in, for a rare moment in STO, true Star Trekking. Can you not see that?

With nine points in Driver Coil, a Fleet Impulse Engine, and a Fleet Warp Core with Driver Coil and 50% off the Slipstream cooldown, I'm finishing Tour The Galaxy with 45 seconds to spare (my best time, so far).

Granted, this is with a new Captain who hasn't hit Diplomacy 4 yet, so I'll have to make a minor adjustment to my route once the Omega Leonis sector block becomes a part of the challenge. On the other hand, I've got a Veteran Destroyer that I'm not using, and the 60 second duration those ships get on Slipstream would make things even easier.

It's doable, ladies and gentlemen. The challenge is to learn the map and navigate it efficiently. It's like any other challenge in an MMO; figure out your strategy, gear for it, spec for it, and knock it out.

I just barely manage to beat Tour the Galaxy in its new incarnation. MIND YOU, I have a [Coi] [SSR] Warp Core, a Vesta, Borg engine, and 9 DC. And T4 Dip, but that's not relevant. What IS is having T1 Romulan Reputation - YOU WILL NEED THE ROMULAN REPUTATION TAU DEWA TRANSWARP. Here are instructions for you. (NOTE: Pick up the mission "Secret Orders" before proceeding) This will make use of Auto-Travel mechanics. I will specify when to use Slipstream (make sure you have an SSR Warp core, or the CD may be too long)

1: Pick up Daily, leave from Sol.
2: Head STRAIGHT SOUTH in Sirius.
3:Turn WEST the INSTANT you cross into the Orion Sector, duck into BU.
4: Jet through BU at slipstream.
5: Square-Block Turn. Enter ZA. Head for the center. do a quick loop through the middle before heading for AT.
6: Jet through AT at Slipstream.
7: Cross back into Sirius (leaving from AT puts you in Risa Sector, completing Sirius).
8: Set a course for Gamma Orionis.
9: IMPORTANT: Set course for NGC-2447 System (the Terradome system). IMMEDIATELY nudge your ship SLIGHTLY north once you start flying straight. This will take you through Cestus, Galdonterre, and Bellatrix.
10: You should hit Pelia moments after you enter the Bellatrix Sector. Duck in, then reverse-speed back out.
11: Fly straight. You will fly into the Cestus Sector. The moment you do, use the MISSION TRANSWARP for "Secret Orders." This will put you in the Kassae Sector.
12: Fly due north, staying near the Sirius Sector wall. Cross back into Sirius the moment you touch the Argelius Sector. This will spawn you halfway up the wall, sparing you 5 LY of flight.
13: Head due north, crossing into Alpha Centauri. Continue north.
14: Cross into Iota Pavionis. Square-Block Turn (see step 5).
15: Exiting from the Devron Sector places you in the Sierra Sector. Head due East until you cross into the Vendor Sector, then go due South.
16: Set course for the Dera system. This is just BARELY inside the Mylasa Sector, and will allow you to complete Psi Velorum. Engage Slipstream.
17: THIS IS IMPORTANT. The moment you complete Psi Velorum, pop your Transwarp to Tau Dewa. This will place you in the Azure Sector - Right next to the Regulus border, less than 2 LY from Jouret.
18: Set course for Beta Lankel. Nudge ship slightly northward once you begin flying straight. This will edge you into the Narendra Sector long enough to complete it before heading for Pi Canis.
19: Set course for Kalferi, nudge northward. Continue through to Eta Eridani.
20: Set course due West. Jet through on Slipstream. Cross into Orrelius from the end of Eta Eridani.
21: Set course due North. Mission will complete (stopping countdown) the moment you cross into the Raveh Sector.
22: Transwarp to ESD. Turn in mission.
    23: ???
    24: Profit.

Like I said, this completes it with about 45s to spare (without Antimatter Containment crit or Dip Immunity/Raiding party - having all three is better).

I use a MACO Mk XII set on my FPE, and only have 3 points on driver coil. I don't use a WC that gives any boost to DC at all. I always seem to finish my tour with about 1:30 seconds left, give or take a few. The 15 minute time limit is not nearly as impossible as some people seem to think, I can assure you.

As a supplement to the post I made, I intend to make a video showcasing my route (and its updates - the current version allows for some sneaky sneaky). I will add the video link to this post after it is uploaded.

EDIT: Even with rubber band lag AND a disconnect, I beat the mission with a minute remaining. Here's me on an AVERAGE run. Done better, done worse.

As a matter of fact, yes. I did my typical 11-minute route (with Borg engine) with a Science Destroyer equipped with primarily the Solanae/Dyson sets (no Borg engine, frequent use of Subspace Fold). Took me about 14 minutes.

(My Fed route starts in Mempa/Pi Canus -> Eta Eridani -> Regulus -> Sirius -> the BU>AT>BU>AT>ZA>BU loop in Cardassian Space -> Deferi -> Eta Eridiani -> Sirus -> Borg -> Undine -> transwarp to Tau Dewa -> Psi Velorum -> Alpha Centauri -> Iota Pavonis. I also have 6 pips in Driver Coil, and did not have the DI/RP buffs.)

Edit: Also did not use the Obelisk Warp Core either.

My ships current configuration gives me a sector speed of Warp 17.08. I could easily do much better using Borg Engines and any Warp Core that boosts DC skill, along with Diplomatic Immunity and/or Raiding Party. If your own ship is close to this or better, and you're able to use Quantum Slipstream Drive on occasion, then you should have the speed to complete the Tour well within the 15m time limit, provided you're also taking an efficient route.

I accidentally forgot to switch to my usual race ship and took the mission last night. My route differs from yours, but the result was about the same, a little over 14 minutes to finish. Guess I can do it on my characters that don't have Borg engines again.:)

Reading all this makes me think i'm doing something terribly wrong. Despite following these routes i cannot complete the run in time.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

First off, there is only a small bonus reward for finishing every sector during this daily, so even if you do not finish the entire circuit, you aren't losing much. The trait is unlocked after 9 or 10 sector blocks, and that should be not too much trouble to get :) ** the trait is "well travelled" and gives a bonus to the CD of your transwarp abilities.

One of the most useful features I use for the tour, when I play it, is the transwarp to the mission "Skirmish", which is only 500 Energy credits, and in the middle of Eta Eridani, and doesn't incur any cooldown penalty. You just have to have the mission active to use the transwarp-to feature.

When I'm on a fed player, I start in Iota Pavonis. I could go down to AC and then regulus/Psi after that.

When I'm on a KDF character, I start on the edge of the right-most sector in Omega Leonis, and travel to the TW gate of Omega Leonis - > pelia -> TW to "Skirmish".

I always TW to Skirmish from the right-side of Pi Canis, rather than flying back. I always TW from Pelia SB to skirmish , also.

If you have a fleet SB with transwarp gate tier 5, you might incorporate that into your tour, but occasionally that can be risky, if you get stuck on a very long load time.

I hope some of this is helpful :)

Finally managed to get it done twice with 1-1.30 minutes to spare. Identified that turning and exiting iota pavonis were my holdups.

Starting at zaria move towards eta eridani.

Enter eta eridani and TW to Pi canis.

Clear Pi Canis and use "between the stars" quickwarp.

Clear Tau Dewa and exit at mylase sector.

Go Nortwest to Alpha Centauri then to Iota Pavonis.

Clear Iota Pavonis and quickwarp to Briar patch using "secret orders" quickwarp.

Clear regulus and cross sirius to beta ursea.

TW across BU, make turn in Zeta Andromeda and enter Alpha T. sector.

Speed across AT and enter sirius toward Gamma O gate.

    Clear borg and undine space.

With borg engines this should finish with at least 30 sec to spare.
