Good jog on the Klingon Dyson Science Destroyer. It's the best of all three base ships (for esomeone like me who's 95% Fed - 5 % Rom that's a really good compliment). Can't wait to see the C-Store variants at the end of the month

The Typhoon is lovely.
Polish don't rebuild.
Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though. JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

My name is Nick and I am the new Star Trek Ship Artist! I have been here at Cryptic for a few months now and feel that I am settled in enough to join everyone here in the discussion on the forums. I'll be hanging around the threads specifically to the ships but I love to read all of the constructive feedback we receive on a daily (hourly, minutely) basis!
My goal as a ship artist is to make sure any canon ship I create is as accurate as the show or movie they appeared on and also to create non-canon ships that appeal to you, the fans.
I just wanted to stop by and say Hi, and I can't wait to have some great discussions around here.

Welcome aboard Nick. Since many are on the subject of ship issues they would like to see addressed, how about re-skinning the tier 2 Constitution Refit to the canon skin. I would be satisfied with simply a material option but, I think a complete rework would be better.
Oh pshaw. The Tahoe-class is a perfectly serviceable design. With some de-greeble-ization she'd be a damn fine Sciscort, or at least a nifty Intrepid variant. The Sacagawea already survived a similar translation, and it's an objectively worse design.
That Tahoe class would make a perfect Dyson Cruiser. A new toy for the engineers of the game.

This is actually a pretty good post fort pointing out just how awful the current model is, thanks.
Let's start with that saucer. It's a distended, bloated Intrepid variant saucer. That said, it's not... strictly bad. It's not very good either, but to its credit, it has a beefy, battleship-y look going for it.
The secondary hull is lifted almost vertex for vertex from one of the Galaxy variants, and it looks just as bad here as it does there. It's a scalloped cylinder with no greebles of any kind save for a lazy deflector and some weapons hardpoints. "Lovely", it is not.
The pylons are also obviously stolen from a Sovereign variant. Hilariously, they're the worst pylons. Ever. Of all the ships in the game. Those things are hideous.
Which brings me to the nacelles, the one part of this ship that's actually not vomit-inducing terrible at a glance. Still blatantly lifted from a Prometheus variant welded together with a generic plate. But the concept has merit. It's the only thing about this ship that isn't obviously lazy at a glance, even if it was probably unintentional.
This has the makings of a good design. It just needs its own parts purpose-built for these proportions and design cues. Polishing the existing model for player use would be a waste of effort when a brand new model built using the current version as a guide would look better in NPC groups and probably make a bit of money if sold in the C-Store.
Welcome  Is there any chance of this concept ship becoming a playable ship?
From the original concept art, I've estimated the size as comparable to the Intrepid Class. In my writing, I've dubbed it the Eaves Class, and consider it a tactical explorer...
I for one REALLY like the look of that ship!!
Please reconsider ARC. Please make it optional, at the least. PLEASE.
It seems the vast majority of your most active players (forum regulars) hate the idea... and while that's a small subset of the playerbase, I think it's an important constituency.
THE PLAYERS DO NOT WANT THIS.
Not to mention it's apparent in Nemesis that the Sovvy saucer is wider than the Scimitar hull (at least the front part of it) unlike in the game. See this pic from Nemesis fo instance: http://s27.postimg.org/u9swok25f/nemesishd2196.jpg
Btw. most ships match very well their sizes, shuttles are more of a technical limitation and the Defiant (or B'Rel) were just inconsistent on screen to begin with. That covers most other ship size problems. (Then there is a question of Cryptic original ships being potentially badly sized, but given they're 'Cryptic original', there's little space for arguing - not that I agree with the Hegh'ta or KDF Sci destroyer size.)
TOIVA, Toi Vaxx, Toia Vix, Toveg, T'vritha, To Vrax: Bring in the Allegiance class. Toi'Va, Ti'vath, Toivia, Ty'Vris, Tia Vex, Toi'Virth: Add Tier 6 KDF Carrier and Raider. Tae'Va, T'Vaya, To'Var, Tevra, T'Vira, To'Vrak: Give us Asylums for Romulans.
Welcome to the team!! Looking forward to see your work.
For the record, my quality level expectation is the Ambassador Class ship. To me, this has been hands down the best modeling, highest detailed texture mapping etc. Please use the ambassador class as a quality level reference in your designs.

Welcome aboard! I have a fun hypothetical game since you brought up both canon and brand new designs ... So if you were given the assignment to produce a Wambundu class ship, which is a class alluded to often in TNG, but never actually seen on screen, what kind of look and what kind of ship would you make it?
There's no wrong answer here. Just thoguht it'd be fun conjecture.

By "Sacagawea" do you mean this? It's very similar to that concept art.
Tahoe wouldn't be a stretch as an intrepid variant at all. It's a somewhat shorter saucer, wider fixed pylons, and funky nacelles....
My favorite Perpetual design was basically an Excelsior with a rollbar between the nacelles.

Wellcome aboard Nick, nice to have you along!
I singled out that part of your post on purpose, because it's a really nice thing to hear from a ship designer. I sincerely hope you know how to make good looking Starfleet designs, because the ones we've been getting lately are kinda'.....meh.
Not bashing anyone on purpose and talking specifically about the non-canon classic Starfleet designs here. The KDF ships, the Romulan ones or racial designs like the Kumari (which I'm still drooling over:P) all look very good.
So I hope you brought some Starfleet design understanding and good aesthetics with you!
I agree! That's a nice looking ship. Personally, I think the Perpetual Art for STO still is vastly superior to what we have in-game today. Maybe in another decade, PWE will actually captch up.

Let's bring everything in line with the technical limitations then. >:3
I would appreciate it if you got to work on the new canon accurate Galaxy class model as soon as possible. The one for the new, revamped badass Galaxy class revamp I hope Cryptic is working on.

Given the Sovvy is pretty much fine in relation to the Mogai (Valdore) or the D'Deridex, this would be a good place to start: http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20071010234610/memoryalpha/en/images/8/8f/Nemesis_comparison.jpg

The Sacagawea wound up becoming the Aquarius escort. It went through some heavy changes but it's not hard at all to see how similar they are.
