Lack of Next Generation stuff

Outside of the uniforms, Worf and the Galaxy Class cruiser, I've noticed that there is a lacking of The Next Generation stuff in the game. There aren't any refrences to Picard and his career, or Riker. Though we see his brother, we don't see much. The game seems to focus on the lore of DS9, Voyager and TOS. We see more from Enterprise than TNG. Personally, I'd like to have more TNG stuff in game. Thoughts?

There are a lot of references scattered around. While the suckdom of the Galaxy class is well-known and oft-lamented (take a look at the eye-bulging length of the Galaxy thread in the Federation Shipyard forum), they're not all that invisible. The entire Dyson Sphere idea (as a plot device, not a hypothetical construct) came straight from TNG. Scotty is referenced because he was also discovered in that episode, but the episode had a good bit more than Scotty in it.

Plus, it was supposed to be a big, big Starfleet out there with many thousands of ships. Too much namedropping can get to be a bit cringeworthy after a while.

probably because bridge packs and stuff and themed things don't sell aswell as ships.
But honestly, i'd actually pay for the ship interior of the enterprise D.
in a priority one broadcast i overheard that it takes 6 weeks to build a ship's bridge, like we see on most lockbox ships.
a whole interior would probably take too much time out of the scedule.
    Go pro or go home

    Theres also:

    Nebula class

Heavy cruiser (Cheyene, Constellation, etc. Wolf 359)

    Sovereign (is part of TNG)

    Scimitar class

    Mogai class

    Ambassador class

    Vorcha class

The Preservers race (TNG "The Chase")

    The Olympic class

and a bunch of stuff I can't remember, but TNG is represented in the game

TNG is more closely represented as part of the wider Federation, though STO's primary influences are DS9 in terms of general theme and structure, followed by Voyager in terms of high-level content.

Like others have pointed out, the ships, the characters, and the outfits are there, but TNG references are mainly skin-deep, whereas DS9 influences STO to its bones.

That's partly because TNG was so focused on the crew of the Enterprise, and didn't do a lot of "fleshing out". It was very much alien/crisis of the week, and that's fine, except for the fact that the MMO genre, with a lot of time spent in a single place or world, is more compatible with DS9's approach. After all, most of the time in STO you're doing your job in known space. You're not so much standing in for the crew of the Enterprise as you are for the crew of the other Starfleet (or KDF or Romulan) ships the Enterprise encounters.

To the list of TNG things, let's also add:

The Solanae (they're the aliens from "Schisms")
The Dyson Spheres (from "Relics", but in the new episode you visit the actual Dyson Sphere from the episode.)
    Iconians (first seen in "Contamination")
Sela and Taris (and mentions of Tal'aura)

I would like to see a featured episode or STF where the player(s) team up with the USS Challenger (Galaxy-class, Captain Geordi LaForge), USS Rhode Island (Nova-class, Captain Harry Kim), and USS Pasteur (Olympic-class, Captain Beverly Crusher).

So as to not overshadow the player characters, these ships would use would need to be restricted to support roles. For one, the NPC AI behavior should be "defend/protect/heal player character". Skills likewise would be more geared to support roles, such as Engineering Team and Extend Sheilds for the Challenger, Science Team and Hazard Emitters for the Pasteur, and Jam Sensors and/or Tractor Beam for the Rhode Island.

    Anyone else agree?

Even though Voyager sucked the most, it was the newest series so understandably will have alot of input in STO.

Even though Voyager had little to do in the Alpha Quadrant where the game takes place. DS9 and TNG should have more influence in STO, imo.

You do meet Thomas Riker's son in a mission. While Tom being in a Cardassian prison is DS9, Riker's very existence came into being in TNG.

The TNG stuff I miss the most in the game and which I would pay good money for (and I'm talking about amount of Zen to at least buy a bundle of ships) is the Enterprise-D interiors! :)

I'd love to be able to use them on my Galaxy-R, all the originals - the Captain's quarters, the hallways, the classical engineering, ten forward, the briefing room, a proper Galaxy class bridge that doesn't make me feel like I'm in the Sydney Opera House......

TNG interiors pack, now that would be awesome! :)

I think that pretty much sums it up for me too. There wasn't that much lore so much as following the lives of the Enterprise-D crew. Any lore in TNG was expanded on in DS9 (Ferengi, Klingon culture etc) so it seems like TNG is left out.

Must haz! Get Whoopi Golberg in and record her and put Guinan (and Guinan outfits for us- free from her new mission, of course!) in the game. Explore the El-Auriens some more, but by all means, more, more, more next gen stuff!

There's a lot of TNG stuff I would like to see in this game. For example, the equipment (Phasers type 1, 2 and 3, also the pulse phaser rifle from VOY in that regard), interiors and there are still a few ships missing. And I would love to encounter one TNG "real" Borg cube, maybe make it a special "AGT themed" (Because in STOs timeline, the FC/VOY Borg seem to be the "real" ones) STF where you encounter those Borg and make them scary again. Also, we could encounter Hugh's renegade Borg in that episode, but please don't mix it with FC/VOY wussy zombie vampire Borg.

I feel TNG is represented pretty well all things considered.

We've got access to most of the uniforms and ships of the era. We have a few of the voice actors coming in for cameos. As for ship interiors... I don't know many people who actually bother with going inside their ships except to access their banks between missions. It just doesn't seem as cost effective to spend time on interiors over other content.

As for the characters, you have to remember this is a game set around 40 years later. You can't expect a bunch of people in their 80s to be running around saving the universe all the time. I realize people like to see their old favorites, but I don't think we should fall upon the old clich? of the old guys still being the big shots in the story.

That said without those plot items you don't have much of an STO universe. Without the Iconians for example you simply have a lot of bad things happening. It would probably be fair to say that while DS9 serves as the stylistic base for most content (exceptions being the new VOY style FE and the exclusive Romulan episodes which I'd say follow ENT's format.) TNG acts as the center around which this stuff is structured.

I have nothing against that. I have also declared interest in having Sulu's Excelsior interiors for my Excelsior in the past. The current interiors look weird for my Excel, the closest thing to a proper bridge is the 'Prometheus' pack, but unfortunately that one has a huge display of the Prometheus class.

My wish is cause I'm running a completely TNG optimized Galaxy class, from A to Z with all that is availible in game from uniforms to Galaxy bridge pack (although they are more akin to a concert hall), so I'd really want to complete the set with the Enterprise-D interiors. I feel it would bring out much more enjoyment from my ship since we have seen quite a lot of the facilities and interiors of the Enterprise-D throughout TNG. Especially if the devs. finally make some better use of our ship interiors. That combined with the TNG interiors would be a dream come true for me. :)

After they released the TOS and defiant interior my hopes went up for a TNG interior.

The Enterprise-D was my favorite. It is what I grew up on. I bought all the tng uniforms for my fed and bought the Galaxy bridge pack. I would buy a TNG bundle.

No I agree aside from a few references, the uniforms, the galaxy class and few other tidbits there isn't much. Instead we get stuff related to DS9 ( the defiant interior, tuvok and delta quandrant stuff) Voyager was terrible the only good thing from that was 7 of 9 and the doctor.

I like to see a enterprise-d interior similar to the tos one we got, dr. crusher's coat, worf's later hair style, troi's. Heck even more missions that focus around next gen and less of the other shows.

Agreed that characters returning is kind of out of the question, since most were human. However, I would like to see the actual interior of the enterprise-d available. And, there's another idea I've been pondering for a while. Since no-one seems to spend hardly any time on their bridge, and to make it more appeaiing to buy something you like, why not make it possible to command your ship from the bridge? Make the viewscreen actually work and show you what's outside your ship. Keep the same HUD setup, so we know where everything is on the map, and give the interior some more animation. Consoles exploding, crew rocking back and forth, viewscreen getting fuzzy once in a while, etc. I would really enjoy battling from my bridge view.

Well if we want obscure references then why don't we say joint trills. Sure they were made popular in ds9 but the first one we came across was Oden on tng and Riker had been joined temporarily.

I think people know there are tng references all though out but I think what people want are things that only showed up in tng, not just started. Even the galaxy bridge isn't the same from the show. it seems to be a variant based on the refit on generations. It doesn't even have a ship plaque on the bridge.

    Oh well.

I do like the crystaline entity. the tholians and mirror universe ships in the Crystalline Entity don't make sense.

For myself I'm mostly here to support the idea of a tng bundle.
