A Step Between Stars is the best episode in this game by far. The story was great, the levels were great, Tim Russ was great, the whole thing actually felt like an actual Star Trek episode. The first part in particular where you have to dodge the solar flares? The connection to the original dyson sphere? The bull**** psuedoscience? Yes please, more stuff like that.
It's well put together, it's what Boldly They RodeSHOULD have been like, The mini challenges were really fun, if you haven't played it yet you need to.
Agreed, the way this mission was paced and made was very enjoyable to play
These are the Voyages on the STO forum, the final frontier. Our continuing mission: to explore Pretentious Posts, to seek out new Overreactions and Misinformation , to boldly experience Cynicism like no man has before.......
I have to agree with center on this one it is a damn good mission, although I liked space walking in Boldly they Rode it was the one mission in the entire game where I would have loved to be able to transport onto an allies bridge and shoot Captain Kirland in the face, his annoying interruptions during what was supposed to be a covert insertion were just ridiculous.
If something is not broken, don't fix it, if it is broken, don't leave it broken.
The FE with worf in i reckon was better tho this new one was good cos of tim russ and that sun map we played in. The actual mission was rather boring tho and the interior of the station was rather barren. Also the end doesnt make much sense.
Species 8472 could open a rift anywhere it didnt have to be just in the delta quadrant they could do it in the alpha quadrant or beta, anywhere. They dont need the feds dyson sphere to be perceived as a new threat to the alpha quadrant. Also i thought giving them a voice in true form was terrible they should have done the screeches that would have made much more of a impact than the english vo at the end.
Also who would want Tuvok to be involved with talks as he admitted himself he was easily manipulated. Who is to say it wont happen again? I mean tuvok is cool and all but from the perspective of romulans and klingons would they feel he was the best choice to discuss the sphere ownership?
It was a good mission, I'll say that much. however It is the second episode in a row that advertised a new ship coming out forced you to use it and also the second episode in a row that keeps you from using your bridge crew on the ground maps.
Good story, good art, great rewards, nice guest appearance-but I'd really like to start being able to take my own ships and bridge officers on the next episode.
I agree with catoblepasbeta. It would have been nice to have a SCI or ENG BOFF along with me for healing or shield stuff and while playing my SCI or ENG captain it would have been handy to have a TAC BOFF. As my TAC captain I was able to call in my security team which was handy dealing with the VOTH commanders. They make great distractions. And to echo other posts this FE had a good episodic feel. I enjoyed this one as much as I did the one with Worf. The last two have been the best in my opinion.

I also really enjoyed the mission, it was really.... "Trek"? Is that the way to describe it? BS technobabble, familiar voices, a twist, and the advancing of our overall plot. Yes please. Whoever helped write that episode, amazing work. Here's hoping for more episodes of this quality.

Oh yes, and another thing. When I was playing my Fed-Rom I noticed at the end there was no option to support the Romulan claim to the new sphere-I had to support the Federation and got the same dialogue options as when I was playing my fed captain. Odd because earlier in the episode your status as a Romulan will get noticed "I thought the Republic were the nice Romulans?!" Overall I liked the variety of dialogue options, and felt they gave a bit of leeway for personal character interpretation that's generally lacking in many other episodes (particularly in the Romulan ones) Still, a definite positive improvement going on here IMO.

Welcome to the very thing ive been screaming about since the creation of the romulan fraction.
Over all the FE was great and i admit i thoroughly enjoyed it, but it is marred by their treatment of us romulan based players. No respect for the player nor player wishes/needs.

Well yes, the entire Romulan faction was a huge bait & switch. I just thought it was particulalry bit odd that Cryptic would bother to have dialogue that you'd only see if you were a Romulan and were rude to the Scientist, but would neglect to put in a romulan-specific response when it comes to deciding who gets the sphere. The mission acknowledges when you are being a 'mean Romulan' to the scientist, but thinks you are a fed when it comes to the most important part of the mission for your status as a Romulan to be acknowledged.

Why would you need your bridge officers? Tuvok is more than enough to help you stomp on pretty much anything in your way. I could have soloed it with most of my captains.

Hypos are all the healing you need on that mission, and if you find you need more, the Jem'hadar 3 piece ground set has a healing ability if you don't have the Adapted MACO or KHG armor.
My science captains made all the voth hide in a corner with exothermic induction.
Me: Come out and stop hiding.
Voth: No! You have fire. Stop setting us on fire.
My engineers just whipped out turrets, and I went and read the forums.
Bridge officers would have needlessly complicated it by getting lost or stuck.
It's not necessarily a problem concerning difficulty. I have bridge officers that in some cases cost considerable amounts of ec, fleet credit, dilithium Lobi or zen to get, that took marks, ec dilithium etc to equip and that I spent a considerable amount of time customizing etc. I like the idea of having an away team even if I can run through the entire episode solo no problem. Likewise, the space combat isn't exactly challenging I'd say, but I'd rather pilot *my* ship than be using whatever ship Cryptic happens to be advertising.
Neither Tuvok nor the Scientist had any pathing issues when I played, I don't think there's any reason to think that our bridge officers need to have problems.

Presumably because there will be lots of telepathic scanners and telepaths around searching for things. The Undine can't be unthwartable telepathically. If they were, the war'd already be over.

I've heard this comment come up a few times. Remember, those rifts can be detected and forced closed. Iconian portals just make you appear out of thin air and have no means of stopping them from the other side, and have no means of deteecting them. That is much more dangerous than the rifts. If 8472 reprogrammed the Jenolan portal so they could use it to go anywhere, you would never know what's happening until it's far too late.

I overally enjoyed the episode... what was a bit odd, is, to being sent all alone down on that station. In Trek, that would just not happen - and it would be more believable if you could bring one or two boff's along with you.

The only real complaint I have was the EVA suit part. It took way too much effort to guide it or much less even stop it near the side locks.
I actually like that. It's much more realistic, as that's kind of how space works. To be honest, i really think that's more of how the Suit should work at all times rather than using that stupid pole hopping mechanic. It would make things a lot nicer in terms of long distance EV moving.
Needless to say, i really did like the episode, it was just way too overshadowed with the other horrible things Season 8.5 is doing, as well as what's coming down the pipeline. The episode was well done and different enough to make it nice. Tim Russ did a lot better with the VO, as Michael Dorn sounded a little phoned in, which is a shame because Dorn is great as a voice actor.
I liked the Solar Flare part, but i think they should have been spaced better, and set to fire randomly rather than being there at all times. I was a little confused because it seems like the Solinae sphere is in the Delta Quadrant, but now the TNG sphere is also there, which seemed a little unneccissary. I'm half expecting Cryptic to Fly a Giant Borg Cylinder on top of the two of them just to prepare us for their next expansion....
There was a lot of nice stuff in the mission though, and it looks like they actually put some work into it, so it actually has me looking forward to the season 9 content Starring Tuvok and Voyager.
And in means of accuracy, I have to question it being a Brown Dwarf. It's awfully bright and active for such a star.
Yes, a Brown Dwarf is an object that fails to achieve hydrogen fusion, but is able to fuse easier materials such as deuterium and so generates some heat for a cosmologically short time (1 billion years or less). The Solane star should be a RED dwarf--those are bigger and hotter than Brown Dwarves, and achieve true hydrogen fusion, as well as being stable for anywhere from a hundred billion to several trillion years.
I agree, it is the best so far.
It has the right atmosphere to be a Trek episode and the plot is good, too. I even liked it more than previous because it has at least some minor variation every time you play it when you choose some different dialogue options and that made it a lot easier for me to replay it for the sets (Space and EV).
It also ends with a "to be continued" which I thought was pretty cool because it reminded me of some cliffhanger episodes of the series and it makes me hope that the second part continues in that quality.
Nice job Cryptic!

I really liked this part. But Cryptic made a mistake, they aren't Solar Flares, they are Solar Prominences. Solar Flares are eruptions.

I mean, my main is a Tac, if the station is borked then wouldn't he bring an engineer with him?
There's only so much the "Basics of engineering" classes can cover.

I was enjoying episode, but the ev sequence just made me rage quit. The side locks were too much.
Parallels: my second mission for Fed aligned Romulans.
Great visuals, solid story, Tim Russ' voice acting, varied gameplay... it was a brilliant experience.
Oh yeah, and it indicated that the cliffhanger it left us with will actually be followed up...
