This is fantastic! Genuinely, this has been one of my biggest complains with STO since I started playing it. We get all these cool ships, we're encouraged to spend money on them, but any time we want to switch between or ships for something like PVP, or a quick travel, or a stealthy foundry mission, or whatnot -- we face this kind of staggering, time-related penalty to do so.
Remembering the power tray, in particular, is great addition. Really, really loving that.
I think this change, perhaps more than any other, encourages me to want to try and perhaps buy different ships.
Really, really liking this change.
A suggestion, perhaps -- a similar use to this technology? Multi-speccing for our captain skill points with similar restrictions on where you can change.
Good improvements, but I wasn't too fond of the Quick-change system on tribble, because it lists everything that could go in that slot. For an example, you wanted to switch a gun on your Captain, it lists every equipable weapon that's in your inventory and on your BOFFs. Which makes it worse to switch weapons than just double clicking or dragging from your inventory.
And by judging from the pictures in the blog, this will also be the same with ship weapons and equipment. Which will surely antagonize people, so hope there is a way we can choose what to be quick swaped or a way for us to turn it off.
just been reading the latest dev blog http://sto.perfectworld.com/news/?p=1082431 and so looking forward to this load-out system and finally can beat up the borg and the voth:D
So I'm hoping that the load out option tab will finally put paid to the dreaded bug that keeps kicking boffs of their stations. Or at least provide a faster way of getting them back on station faster. There's nothing worse for me then having to search through 30 odd boffs for the correct ones needed for that ship build
Oh my. This is so cool that one cant describe it with words.
Finally the poor ships in shipyard can be used more as it wont take about half an hour to set it up.
Just one though - will the skills tray get messed up every time one changes ship/load-out, or will that be saved too? It would make things a lot easier if there is a save thingy for it too..
I have to agree, the Quick-Change Item Window is way to big.
Most of the players do have at least 20 or more different weapons, and then they have to scroll up and down fo find the right weapon. Beams, Turrets and Torpedos can be equipped on each ship side, so it is to complex.
I would suggest to give at least the weapons an own window. Having a smaller size, built like the item window. Weapons are already ordered by category and damage type.

From my understanding the powers tray is also saved, That's the main reason for the update. Many people have complained about spending 30 minutes or more to rearrange their tray any time they even looked at their other ships.
I really really love this, is there a chance to save different skill tree builds aswel.
This would be awesome, but I don't know how they could do it as you only have one and it is hard set for the character. Maybe Al would be kind enough to throw out some ideas - or at least say if it is possible or not - even if we had to pay for another skill tree.
While I don't usually swap ships or gear too often, I do think this is a really cool addition to the game. Anything that makes for a more efficient experience is good in my book.
~snip~ The only concern I have about this system is there are times when you have a reduced number of bridge officers that need to retrain an ability when you swap layouts. Will there be plans where it gives you an option to retrain your officer if you switch?
This sounds like a great system, but this is a concern. In all honesty, what's the point in having this great system if you have to go to a skill trainer anyway to retrain a boff? I know some people will say "well just get more boffs", well some people don't have the resources to "just get more boffs", or would rather put their resources into more useful things. Not to mention some boffs are unique and you can only have one of them on a character. Just food for thought.
I don't care what the header says, I am not now, nor have I ever been, nor will I ever be, an "ARC user".

Power tray saving isn't ready yet. But it's in the works
Just keeping the ship experts out there on their toes No plans for a 5-sci console Ha'apax at this time.
Cheers,

thats not much of an answer. is it just a photoshoped preview picture that just happens to have that error, instead of it just being a screen shot? or can devs hax their ship however they like? lol
everyone would pay $$$ for the option to reconfigure a ships console setup as they see fit...

Yes yes yes yes....as well as weapon loadouts, impulse/shield/hull modifiers and boff stations. All around a balancing point of course...

As far as I understand their 'dev' accounts, yes, they can hax almost anything they like in the game within certain parameters (that I have no clue about lol), at any time.
If I'm correct that is; I don't know the full story XD
Was named Trek17.
Been playing STO since Open Beta, and have never regarded anything as worse than 'meh', if only due to personal standards.
I love the fact we'll be able to save loadouts, mad props to the team. I love this feature.
Quick equip, Ill need to play around with it until I can make a judgement.
However, I in no way support changing ships in space with no restricts. There has got to be something like a 3 hour cooldown on it. I know that irks some people but there has to be some limitations on making the game convenient for you. And heres' why: it's killing off zones.
Social zones are growing more and more obsolete to the point that I'd say we're on the verge of not needing them at all. The game's social element has long ago since withdrawn into private channels because of trolls. Nothing can be done about that. But occasionally people could have conversations in zone chat because they had reasons to be places. For instance: moving the STF Gear from the Omega Store on DS9 to the Rep Store menu basically took away 75% of that place's population. Moving ship transfers to a constant power is going to make people with the Tuffli and the Suliban cell ship never go back to their social zones, they don't need to. This will really start hurting the game since it means new players will never find help in a social zone because competent players will have left and the only ones around are trolls (this has already occurred but it will compound the problem).
I'm sorry but while I support the other two features: we should not give players the ability to switch ships outside of social zones. We need reasons to return to base and the more the dev team marginalizes them, the less they will be used and it will hurt the game in the long run when you suddenly have places like ESD turning into empty zones.
This argument is growing tiresome. If your precious social zones don't attract people who aren't forced to be there, then you need to accept the fact that not enough people share your priorities to make this a valid complaint.

People will still need to visit one of the multi service social zones to access some features like the exchange (yes, you can access it on the freighters, but I don't do that), or visit the shipyard to purchase a new ship via level up (you have to go the authority to access it, and since you can't get the ship without that step, it still gives them a purpose).

If you purchase a slot from the c-store will that be one free slot on each ship and if it is only for one ship how do you define which ship that is?
NVM got answered:
but at this time? Does that mean you all thought about it? or did you just say that in general because plans always change?

I'd like to see this as well. The skill tree is very important to the build, and I think this would complete the already great addition to this system

Those big weapon icons are to large.

Good idea, so we could have a common skill tree, and maybe one specialized for Torpedo Boats, one for tanking, one for draining..
If That's the case it's not Christmas 2.0, thanks to the devs but That's my real wish. The update looks good though.

Any chances these will be tied to Vet rewards? Some free additional configurations for vets/lifetime would be pretty sweet!
One question though. How did you overcome the memory limitations for allowing us 50 ships now?
Yes yes yes yes....as well as weapon loadouts, impulse/shield/hull modifiers and boff stations. All around a balancing point of course...
