I would love to take the Typhoon for a spin...

I just finished "The Empress Advances" mission over the weekend and got so distracted by the Typhoons, I almost forgot to fight the battle! That is one cool looking ship, here's to hoping that one day she becomes available.

    after a level cap increase and the ship getting a overhaul. it would be the same for the Jupiter class.

    There would be a typhoon for each class (Eng, Sci,Tac) for 2500 Zen

    And there would be a Typhoon-Set for 5000 Zen.

    Of course the unique consoles would be useless because of a too long cooldown.

    When it first came out, I thought the Avenger would be rolled out as a replacement for the Typhoon. I, for one, would still like to see the Typhoon and the Jupiter released.

    This is the official dev response from December 2012's Ask Cryptic.

    "Q: (cylon74656) Will the Steamrunner Class be available for those of us who don?t play through Steam? And also, when will we see the Typhoon Class playable in-game?

    ...

    The Typhoon Class is a dreadnaught that will most likely not appear as a playable ship until we increase the skill point cap to full Admiral. Even then, we haven't yet decided if this will be a player ship, but we can be convinced to make it so if there is enough support for it."

    Me too I would love to see that ship be playable It's well designed and sturdy ship those dual nacelles look awesome and the Jupiter would make a great Federation Carrier that the Federation has been needing but like the Devs said they'll release it if it gets enough support and I definitely support it, should have been made playable a long time ago in my opinion and it's much better looking than the Avenger it's too Bulky but the Typhoon pulls of a thick Battleship looking hull without being overly blocky.

    And I'd love to see the Typhoon as a Three Pack Federation Battleship I'd finally have a reason to restart my Fed Characters.

    What's this about an overhaul for it? It has never been a playable ship, so what overhaul could it possibly need? No one knows what its equipped with. How can you overhaul something you know nothing about?

    I too would love to see it be a playable ship, but NOT as a 3 pack. It should be the tactical dreadnaught that the galx should have been. No special consoles, no eng/sci/tac versions, just the ship as is. Not a carrier, since it clearly has no hangar or launch bays. The only thing I'd wonder about would be if it should be a 4/4 weapon layout ( I think it should) or a 5/3, and if it should use cannons (I'd say no).

    thats like stating your racing a car through a rally blindfold and you can see where your going. i would suggest you remove your blindfold.

    I would take a Typhoon for my ship collection. And I will use her well. They can have different skins for her too. So you can add different parts.

    I also vote for a Typhoon. The DEVs kep trying to tell us it is a dreadnought, yet when you use photonic fleet it pops up as a photonic battleship.

    I have heard that thing referred to as a battleship much more than a "dreadnaught"

    Side Note: Mirror Invasion. Tyhpoon Battleship. Wiki lists it as a Battleship.

    the typhoon was kitbashed and likely not to be used by the player base at all. it would need to be redesigned or overhauled so it can be used.


    As long as they're not radically altered to where they are not recognizable as such, I'm jelly with the devs cleaning them up and making player ships out of 'em.

    Dual Cannons on the Typhoon?

    Hell No...

    There are already enough Federation Ships with non canon Weapons in this game. The Typhoon should use Beams since they are the main Federation ship weaponry in the franchise I don't want to see more DPS racers duck taping Dual Heavy Cannons to the Hulls of Federation ships the Prometheus and Akira have already been ruined by this not the Typhoon too.

    Idea: Why not combine it with another wish often asked for in the forums: a full FED Carrier, and in this case i'd suggest some kind of Battle Carrier, similar to the Kar'Fi but without the ability to equip DCs, a bit stronger and slower, something like:

    44k Hull
    1.2 Shields
    4/3 Weapons
    LTC Tac
    CMDR ENG
    LTC SCI
    LT UNI

    (Or LT and ENS SCI if that makes more sense to you)

    6 Turn
    30 inertia
    (both on par with fed cruisers of similar size)

    Consoles:
    3 TAC (4 as an alt.)
    3 ENG (2 as an alt.)
    4 SCI

    2 Hangar Bays

    Ability to Equip:

    Aquarius Frigate Ship (Comes with Phaser DC/Turrets, Quantum Torps, APB 1/2/2, CSV 1/2/3, TS 1/1/2 (Standard/Advanced/Elite))

    Console: Multi Tractor Beam, Affects up to 5 Enemies, works like a usual trac beam just on multiple targets, 90(120) sec CD

    Nice Stat Ideas the Console though most people would end up not using but I think it should have a LTC Universal Slot so it would be on par with the Recluse and to make full use of Eng Abilities and I think a 45,000 Hull because of it's size.

    I agree the Typhoon and the Jupiter are some of the best Ship designs in the Game should have been released long ago, do it Cryptic.

    SUPERB... but for the Jupiter, not the Typhoon.

    The Typhoon is clearly the next line of Assault Cruiser, the Heavy Assault Cruiser. This could easily be the Assault Cruiser's 'final form'. I see a T6 C-store version and a Fleet version of this ship.

    What I'd expect from the Typhoon (let's assume it's a C-store ship):

    45k hp
    1.25 shield mod
    4 Fore Weapons
    4 Aft Weapons
    4 Device Slots
    Base Turn 5.5 to 7 (depends on how cruel cryptic decides to be)
    Inertia: 20 (let's face it, they have a tendency to give horrendous inertia to ships like that)

    Console Mods:
    5 Tactical
    4 Engineering
    1 Science

    OR (very very unlikely but possible)

    5 Tactical
    5 Engineering
    0 Science

    BOff layout:

    Cmdr Engineering (you know they're going to do this. You just know it)
    LtCmdr Tactical
    Lt Universal/Tactical/Engineering (probably engineering)
    Lt Universal
    Ens Universal

    However, as for it's "yay cool! purty!! ... oh wait this console sucks because it's not an I-win rest of yall suck button" console, I have no idea.

    If we all want them, someone should make a support this ship thread of use this one.... we all seem to want hangar bays on them too. i agree. what the feds lack (wait, we lack something???) is a non-alien carrier. so make the Jupiter as a carrier/cruiser with 4/3 weps, and the typhoon as a kik TRIBBLE battle carrier with 4/4 weps and a turn rate/inertia rating a little more/less than the oddy, respectivlyhttp://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/images/smilies/cool.gif. like a turn of 6/6.5 and a inertia rating of 30/40. or you could make it a player supported thing http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/images/smilies/wink.gif were will fill out a form with the ratings and weps and you assign a computer to go through them and figure out what the players want. but you could put restrictions on it, like no more than 9 weapon slots total and at least 2 in the rear (hey they are battleships) and no more than 5 of any single console and a a min of 2. or no more than 2 cmdr boff slots and no less than 30 inertia. etc....etc... (ill shut up now) i think that the players would go NUTS over this. and it would improve the game... as long as it wasnt WAYYYYYYYYYYYYY op. then it breaks the game.     No no no no the Typhoon is a Battleship NOT a Carrier it should not have Hangar Bays the Jupiter Class would make the Best Carrier for the Federation.

    no no no.... i don't want a carrier out of the typhoon, i want 1 hanger on it, like a flight deck. 2 would be nice but... well... no.

    A flight deck on the Typhoon would be fail. It's a battleship next to the Jupiter carrier. Let each ship do what it does. Don't half TRIBBLE either.

    well sorry. i would just like a "true" fed flight deck cruiser. we have the escort which i LOVE and we have a whole bunch of alien carriers and flight decks. no true fed ones, the Jupiter can be a fed carrier, but we still have no flight deck. the rommies and klinks have them. but not us feds. unless you wanna spend 25$ for a vesta, but that has 3 forward and is a sci ship.

    I agree that the Federation does need a true Federation Carrier you're right on that but the Typhoon is a Battle Cruiser not a Flight Deck Cruiser so it wouldn't really be appropriate to add hangar bays to it, giving the Federation more ships with hangars is a sound idea the Typhoon just isn't the Ship for that that's all I'm trying to say.

    I doubt that a playable Typhoon would fit the game definition of a "battlecruiser".


    It's a battleship. Which means it will probably have a turn rate on par with the larger cruisers, but with slightly more hull, shields, and punch. And have more of a focus on Tactical rather than Engineering.


    But I do agree that it doesn't need hangars. Would be a bit out of place.

    Personally, I see the Jupiter as more fitting to a hybrid role. A "dreadnought carrier", so to speak. It should be a step up from the Atrox Class. And it should have more of a focus in other areas besides Science, since it's been seen as a "flagship" in some Starfleet task forces in the story missions.

    I would love to visit this star in-game...or maybe this one!
