Higher mark weapons add details to the weapon model. For example, a Mk I Phaser Rifle looks kinda like a stripped down version of the rifle seen in First Contact. A Mk XI looks beefier and has glowy bits on it. Same can be said of the phaser pistol. A Mk I Beam Pistol looks similar to the basic Hand Phaser from the show, while a Mk XI looks bulkier with glowy bits on it.
Basically, each higher tier weapon gets more details added on. Until about Mk X or XI, odd mark gear has no glowy bits while even mark gear does. I think X-XII look the same, unless you get into Elite Fleet weapons, which have unique models to set them apart from other weapons.
DC Universe Online has a feature like this. Once your character has equipped a piece of gear once then the visuals are permanently unlocked so you can continue to use that visual even if another piece of gear has replaced it.
It's not myfault ifyoufeel trolledbymyDisco ball...Sorry'boutit.
let's face it, most of the weapons in my opinion looks alot nicer with their low level models
i would like to make a mk xii phaser look like a mk I
This has been suggested since game launched. Earlier mark weapons look more canon, and decent. The later versions, and especially Mk XII look so exaggerated.
Bah.
Not that I care these days I never play ground anymore.

Seems like a good idea.
The only drawback I can see is that PvPers would complain if they couldn't eyeball what somebody was carrying. (And yes, I AM still sore over losing powerhue, tyvm).
I'd love to see this, honestly i dont really like the armor and "holographic" kits because they were never really seen in Star Trek - a simple looking phaser rifle, hand phaser and a uniform, even if they added versions of the troop uniforms seen during the klingon & dominion wars (AR-558 and whatever that waste of time Jake Sisko episode was) for anybody who didnt like running through colony invasion in their shipboard uniform.
Im currently using a weapon on a female toon that is bigger than she is, levelling her up i actually skipped upgrades to keep a rifle that looked "normal" (in Star Trek terms)
Coming soon to the Z-Store: Transmutation Modules! Transfer the look of one item to another!
(Ships excluded. No tier 5 connie for you!) :P
I think I'd be happy if I could just make my romulan plasma beams look like phasers. So do the rest of the Feds I think. We're all tired of our ships shooting green beams because the canon beams can't compete with experimental beam/rom console set bonus/fleet science consoles etc.
