After my Starfleet and Klingon toon, I decided to create my Romulan (Reman) toon. And after reaching level 50 I don't know, should I keep him or delete him.
The problem is, that Romulan starships are (that's my opinion) one of the worst in the game (slow, low turnrate and ugly). There is not much to customize on the starships, and there is only one variant of the bridge. And singularity is nothing like warp core (with warp core you can gain speed, shield strenght or whatever you choose). After purchasing all consoles (mark XII), the ship is still soooooo slow, that it barely moves through the space.

driver coil helps sector space travel and dumping some points into engine related skills can also help augment your turn rates and impulse speeds when in a fight, if you want you can buy RCS for a boost to your turn rate.

Worst? No - nothing competes with the Galaxy or Galaxy-X for a let down.
Romulan ships certainly have a unique character and are thought by some to be among the best ships in the game. This doesn't mean there have not been a few mis-steps. It take quite a bit to make a Deredix dance, and the fleet variants can be devastating in the right hands.
And I do love the DD. Damn fine looking ship.
The bonus abilities from the singularity core while good are not game changers. They take time to get used to, and for most players they tend to specialize in one or two of the abilities. The key to singularity abilities IMO are in their flexibility.
Turn rates out of the box are slow, but with rep and consoles, they are quite manageable. The bonus of battlecloak certainly changes the argument and the Scimi is something to behold while under battlecloak.
My only complaint is their size relative the maps (old discussion topic, nuff said).
Yes, part of the problem is people get used to certain tactics and then do not adapt to what one should be doing in a different type or style of vessel. What you do in an escort is not the same as a cruiser, and neither are the same as a full carrier.... you do not fly and fight a BoP in the same way as a Battlecruiser...... and you don't fly the bigger warbirds like you would a Fed Cruiser or Klink BC. Your style must adapt to the ship.
The DD is a flying brick, no matter what people will say, like adding 5 RCS console and a tachyo console, or spam cloak. No matter what, it's the biggest flying brick in STO, you just try to find solutions for this weakness. This ship have the same turnrate of the Vo'quv, a carrier.
I don't play it because of that, I need either to spend a lot of console to make it a little less like a whale, or use the cloak everytime I turn, instead of everytime I want to increase my DPS. And I don't like that.
Anyway, there is a lot more than just the DD at lvl50 for rom. More nimble ships, including the mogai, dhelan, or for free player, the Ha'feh/Ha'nom and mirror universe equivalent (usually those are cheap on the exchange). Then you have the fleet ships.
[..]

Well, this is an interesting perspective. What are you suggesting? Should the devs nerf Klingon and Fed ships? Or should they buff Romulan ones? Any specific suggestions? Perhaps lower the hull on the BoPs? Maybe the Scimitar could use another tac console, or perhaps an extra forward weapon mount? Maybe a second hangar slot. Just throwing ideas out there; but I want to hear your suggestions.

thats why i have a fleet t'varo. it turns well, even better in cloak, with reman alt giving bonus to damage from cloak and such.
the only buff i want to see for romulan ships are to shield power levels, standard warp cores provide all round power levels but singularity cores inherently have a weakness in that area. i would happily exchange one of the singularity powers for 15 points into shield power.
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
Worst in the game? Or not your playing style? First of singularity (warp) core is a warp core and all abilities that affect a warp core will affect it. The standard high power rate is a little lower than other ships but the cap is not. Can't seem to understand your comment about the turn rate but then again I was use to the Odyssey class ships before this came out. The singularity core abilities have saved my rump more than a few times. Hardly ever use the battle cloak but does sit there, try it. All in all, I have two Romulan Side characters. I have a Liberated Borg officer in a Tal Shiar Adapted Battle Cruiser (I know, it's not a warbird, but it's strong and pretty). I have a Reman tactical officer that will always be in a warbird because he kicks butt in it.
the silly thing about singularity cores is that a singularity in the trek universe can be harvested for limitless power if a containment chamber is correctly built for the role. a traditional warp core only has a set power value due to its construction and the quality of the materials used. if anything the romulans should have better power systems then the feds and klingons without need of dilithium crystals and consistent maintenance, but rather keeping up with the nullifier cores to keep a romulan ship invisible in warp.

Personally I hate how big most of them are at the RA stage. You get that nice tactical warbird at captain[which I loved] then you get a dump truck at RA. Now at VA you can get a carrier refit of the tactical bu that's what 2000 Zen? Don't have that on me ATM. Though on the balance, the breen raider made a good ships for my rom tact and the cruiser a good ship for my rom engineer.

That does not even remotely resemble how a black hole works.
A rotating black hole emits gamma radiation, presumably that is what the ship harnesses for power. The black hole can only emit a specific amount of radiation (=power) over time. So the power the ship can produce over time is limited by the amount of radiation the black hole can produce over time. Where is "limitless" in there?

I would bet this is indeed the problem. I often have to readjust after going from Fed to Romulan ships. However it isn't only the build. The Romulan ships have more power issues ( unless you get AtBat going well). I assume it is slow because you minimized the engines and aux to 15? I find it works better if I don't try to max out weapons as I would on a Fed escort. Plus as was said in another reply; use the battlecloak often. The ship turns much better under cloak, and you get the benefit of the decloak damage bonus. I have found I like the Dd quite a bit used this way.
I'm actually far too old to have learned this in school.
But as a regular nerd I tend to read a bit about how this stuff works on occasion.
The crazy thing is that the smaller the balck hole the more radiation it produces...but then it also gets increasingly unstable. And those things tend to blow up when they shrink below a critical size. There's an interesting short article about black holes for space travel here:
From what I read in another article it would be possible to drop small amounts of matter into the hole at regular intervals to keep it at a constant size. So that's probably what the Romulans do but it would also mean that their ships have only a limited fuel capacity...of course they can most likely just drop any stuff a black hole can digest (=almost everything) into it to keep it going. But the result is probably still less effective than a matter-antimatter collider.:)

Over time, the energy emitted by the black hole is mc^2, with m being the starting mass plus all the mass that you feed into it. If you keep it at a steady mass, the output is basically the same as an antimatter reaction with the same fuel input. It's the same energy output you get from matter-antimatter annihilation (assuming the same efficiency at converting that energy to usable forms), except at a moderated rate, where annihilation gives you all that energy up front, whether you want it or not.
It's sort of like the analog between an older style steam engine and an internal combustion engine. Increasing the rate you burn fuel in an internal combustion engine almost immediately increases the energy you get out, while a steam engine requires time to build to a higher pressure when you put more fuel in.

Science<<<<<<<>>>>>>>Star Trek. We are talking about a game with T rex with lazerz on their heads, and Hadrosaurus that successfully evolved in a sapient species and left Earth in spaceship before the Dinosaurs went extinct. Which is considered as "canon".
Now, Aliens that can contain a black hole in a box ? And you try to find how it's possible. Well, you need a lot of treknobabble and a bit of space magic.

What ship, what class?
Most of the rom ships actually have a pretty solid turn rate. Just going down the wiki page, for t5 ships, I see dhelan, 16, mogai, 14, hafeh, 16, arkif (carrier escort) 16, tvaro, 18 ....
the feds don't have anything that breaks 18 in their rich 50 ship selection. Klingon ships turn better in general, yes.
Rom ships are missing several types, for sure. A decent science ship and a 2 bay carrier would do a lot to round out the faction. The problem is lack of choice and gaps, really, which I expect will be filled eventually since the roms are popular. If you really boil it down, there are escorts/destroyers, tactical carriers (scimitar, arkif, etc), and a couple of cruisers. And one kind of meh science ship. That is all we get --- and the bulk of them are BO setup for commander tac, without much variety.
Ugly is in the eye of the beholder -- but klingons seem to have a leg up for ugly ships.
But in the end, play what you like --- if rom was best for everyone, everyone would be a rom, right?
My advice is to NOT delete him, though. Use him to farm contraband & rom BOs, if nothing else.

One thing that's different is that the black hole transforms the matter into radiation and gravity so part of it is lost that way.
Another thing to keep in mind is that the more matter you dump into the black hole the, more gravity and also less radiation it produces. So it's more like a steam engines that cools off the more coal you throw into the furnace.;)

you are assuming a natural black hole, but romulans create their own blackholes and who knows what they used to create the reaction or what types of radiation they can harvest. our own understanding on black holes is from pure speculation by stephen hawking and a few other prominent scientists, while hes reputable on thoery, it still needs to be proven one day and on that day our understanding how these invisible demons can be better understood considering the blackness of space and this 3 dimensional thing.
