Hi Captains!
I am organizing an in-game (Holodeck) Community Party at Q's Winter Wonderland for this coming Friday -- since the event is going to be ending next week, I thought we should all get together one last time to participate in the various events and form groups to take down the Snowman Overlord and run Winter Invasion.
[GMT Timeslot] The first timeslot will be at 8pm GMT/ noon PST/ 3pm EST. (Click
here to view in your timezone)
[PST/EST Timeslot] The second timeslot will be at 6pm PST/ 9pm EST/ 2am GMT. (Click
here to view in your timezone)
Let's plan to meet in the Gazebo at Q's Winter Wonderland (any instance).
Please join the PartyTime channel to see any communication/ instructions from myself. Type this command in your chat bar to join the channel: /channel_join PartyTime
If you can't make it Friday, I would like to try and do these often, and on different days/ times. Feel free to post constructive feedback in here with ideas, including if you would like to see this expanded to other types of events (PvE, STFs, PvP, Foundry, Events, Fleet Actions etc.).
Hope to see many of you Friday! Dress warm.
Cheers,
Brandon =/\=

but it shouldnt be a problem to be out there and dance under the party ball and help take down smowmen for 2 events though.

Yup, the exploiters really ruined the PvP race for me. Wouldn't be so bad if Cryptic actually cracked down on it, but as usual they turned a blind eye. Don't think I'll ever be doing that again.
its becoming more common, it wont be long before the race name is turned into the pvp jumping contest on ice.
hah! it works, and it works well when you seen enough of them to know. im just making the point known to branflakes so it's not swept under the carpet so readily :P.

I call it, the Stoutes paradox.
and so the opposite camp jumps in to defend the jumping as a right :P.

So, at 80 Q pics a year, how long will I have to play in order to get a Breen ship?

Only when they're doing things that shouldn't be possible. If you legitimately beat me cause you've figured out a better way to navigate the course or because I f'ed up, then bravo, you've earned 1st place. But if you beat me by exploiting a flaw in the game engine or by using some kind of speed hack, then no, that's not right, and I have every right to be pissed and report you for cheating.
You just have to practice more. You'll get the hang of it eventually. The nice thing is that if you fail you can just do it over and over again till you win, no waiting. Or, alternatively, just run the course on your own and figure out how to navigate the turns without sliding until you're confident enough to do it for real. I started out by walking around the corners and then sprinting the straight-aways and trying to run in a straight line as much as possible to minimize drift.
Unlike the PvP version where if you lose to an exploiter you have to wait up to 20 minutes to try again, with no guarantee you're not going to get beat by another cheater.
I think I'm one of the few who simply aren't meant to get it. Sure, I'd love a Breen ship out of it, but at this point, it's hardly worth the frustration. Especially since, according to my fleetmates and friends, that Jem'Hadar Dreadnought Carrier I got a while back is one tough cookie if built right.

LL&P.
Jump and release all keys and you'll come to a complete stop, no sliding. I also find that if you climb up a bit onto the inside edge of a turn you'll slow down and not slide without going out of bounds (this is really key -- hang along the edges instead of the actual lane and it makes navigation a lot easier), and if you do a rapid 180 degree turn with the mouse you slow down pretty quickly.
Well you can run the race every 20 hours till the 16th. And if you have some lobi you can buy boxes that will give you a few extra photos. You might be able to make it if you're diligent.
I'm not sure what happens if the event ends and you have a partially-completed project.
Sevmrage, the blue part here is the key. You need to cut corners. If you TRIBBLE up from time to time, rollover (double click in a given direction) to avoid getting out of track.
The jumping part here is actually somewhat new to me (you never know how much you ignore ). I never made such a clear connection to the stopping of the char. I guess that might make some runs much easier. Thanks.
Of course you probably won't get enough Q pics now, Sevrmage, but at least you can practice again and stockpile those you get for next year.
EDIT: Oh, I forgot: There's also plenty shortcuts on the PVE race. After you manage to run without getting disqualified, you can try looking for corners you can completely ignore, for instance, and keep going straight instead of loosing time with turning.

It seems the vast majority of your most active players (forum regulars) hate the idea... and while that's a small subset of the playerbase, I think it's an important constituency.
THE PLAYERS DO NOT WANT THIS.
Exactly what this person stated, i have been been running the daily races in the winter wonderland for 3 years now, the only time i ever bugger it is if rubberbanding ever grabs me as it will do weird things and put me off the track..but apart from that i never fail the daily race.
Good for you. I'm running it for two years on 6 (and this year 9) chars yet when I got a bad day I fail about 3-4 races by running a little farther than allowed.
And i remember the first day I ran it, I had a feeling I could never control my character on that slippery track. I managed to later, but had I abandonned after that first day, I'd still have no clue how to run it.

it's about the reaction after 15-10 meters if on a run already, how you react to it like the pvp race at turn 1, i usually get between the ice chunks and run the opposite direction 10 meters before the turn in order to stop my direction enough to turn direction and head through to turn 2, if i get it right i can bypass other players rolling through the turn because when you finished rolling you are waiting for a second before you get control of your toon and needing to rebuild your speed on the ice.
with the pve running, after the first few quick turns followed by the turn that takes forever then bypassing a small kink (that gives you a view of the ice where the snowman boss resides) you come to an icy hairpin, opposite that there another hairpin nearby the snowman army just past a bridge, i dont run the opposite direction there, instead i aim for the highest icy point in the corner for slow down and i walk left the whole way until the grip comes but usually leave 10 meters again, you get it right you loose no time there at all and come out with some speed.

I've already been looking around for interesting places in this galaxy where future encounters might take place.

I don't use the boots. You go faster, but you slip more--a lot more.
I don't jump--little tougher to control, and timing is too critical. I'll only jump on the "Fast and the Flurrious" to get over the obstacles. I won this only once, but I otherwise I always place pretty high--but I also haven't raced that much on this one.
I run in shooter mode ("B" key). Easier to see and control where you are going. The "tunnel vision" actually helps.
Anticipate the turns--start turning before going into the turn (in shooter mode, with the mouse, you can turn 180 instantly), particularly on those sharp turns.
You can run in the snow on either side of the ice and still be on the track--and you have good traction in the snow. I'll run through the snow on some of the turns for the traction.
Run in straight lines as much as possible. The less turning you do, the less you slide.
If you have problems on the turns, slow to a walking pace--or even stop for a moment. You only need to cross the finish line ahead of the NPC--so don't worry if it gets ahead of you a little in the middle of the race.
I've never checked my time, but I regularly pass the NPC of the racer ahead of me. I even passed the racer ahead of me once.
I only lost this race the first three times I raced it. After that--it was easy.
And to everyone who can't complete the race for Qpics or thinks frosted boots are useless, I have a little bit of advice: Learn to powerslide.
...Oh, baby, you know, I've really got to leave you / Oh, I can hear it callin 'me / I said don't you hear it callin' me the way it used to do?...

Very odd timings for that region.
Suggest to keep a third time-slot for the Asian region as well!!
You Will be Assimilated.
Assimilation is the Key to Happiness.
They have been doing the two time slot thing for a while now. The third time slot would have to be at a time that would work for people, especially if the community manager is running it. Brandon can't be awake all the time.
asian time puts it 7-11 hours further ahead of the uk and 8pm here would be 3am to 7am assuming they have dst over in that part of the world. if anything the latter time would be far more acceptable by 6 hours so 9am to 1pm. thats working from -8 hours for california from BST.
