That's a reality check, but sadly you say this in the PVE forums, they will accuse you of TRIBBLE posting and being patronising and trash talking.
Sometimes.... reality hurts and it takes a man to accept it and challenge themselves
I lied, the only challenge left in pve is how quickly you can comple an STF or how effectively you can farm NWS.
Seriously though, why post asking if and why you should PvP if you clearly don't want to and then spout Sun Tzu acting as if you can walk the walk. You know you'll just look like a ........ If you stepped into PvP.
I know. I'll post in PvE section smartly calling them ...... because I think I know and understand Sun Tzu.
To those PvE guys who want to actually PvP, I will gladly show you the ropes as I always have done. Yes we have the "attitude" guys, but we also have those who love to help as well. Don't use the "attitude" guys as an excuse not to PvP.
Yes, you're gonna get murdered when you set foot in an arena. Yes, you'll have the attitude guys calling you noobs, but if you ask the right person or people for help, you'll get it in bucket loads.
Why should you PvP? Because rising to a challenge as a team in an unpredictable dynamic environment is fun. Also, if you enjoy it, the game basically throws dilithium at you just for playing and having fun, so it takes away the grind factor of getting d.
Why shouldn't you PvP? Because it takes too much PVE grind and/or money to stay on the cutting edge, and the game is buggy and unintuitive and has been getting steadily worse for a long time. Also, the lack of QA and balance has prompted the community to fracture around what was "fair to use" or not instead of just playing the game, which makes STO's PvP community one of the most hate-filled and angst-generating communities I've ever seen.
If your reason for not wanting to PvP is "I don't like losing" then you should seriously reconsider your viewpoint. People spend their whole lives losing at things, and learning to take it in stride and welcome the lesson that it teaches instead of getting angry and quitting will make you a happier and healthier person in the long run.
If your reason for not wanting to PvP is "it is slow" then you are speaking from ignorance and haven't seen yet what is going on on the inside of a real PvP premade vs premade battle. It's intense, like being 200% sober but still feeling a high. And if that lasts for an hour, at that level of second-by-second action, then you'll be drained and pumped and jittery and tired and everything but bored, because it's non-stop fast-paced action the entire time.
I PvP'd in STO because the fundamental game mechanics were unique and compelling to me, especially on ground but also in space to a lesser extent. Also because I love Star Trek.
I stopped because the negative aspects eventually piled up too high and outweighed the positive ones. I still miss the team dynamics and unique gameplay STO brings, but not enough to want to deal with all the negative junk STO also brings, so I still haven't come back. Maybe someday, though. We'll see.
Yeah. That. All that.
The grind to stay competitive won't get better without a massive shift in direction inside Cryptic and was, ultimately, the final straw for me, as well. Shame it seems to infect just about every other game I've given a shot since STO as well, namely, Mechwarrior Online and Hawken (less so in the latter, though).
If you feel Keel'el's effect is well designed, please, for your own safety, be very careful around shallow pools of water.
It will be ok. Why don't you show us on the doll here where the big, bad PvPer touched you...
Personally, I didn't expect to get into PvP at all. I tend not to enjoy PvP in MMO's. I prefer to PvP in environments that provide equal footing (Say, a FPS where you all start with the same gear and have the same stats, or my old XvT days where everybody had the ability to chose from whatever they wanted) I have no need to play "I have more/better gear then you do." I enjoy the co-operative aspects of MMO, where we are all working together to improve eachother.
I particularly didn't want to get into a "P2W" arms race. I found the concept detestable.
Then... after playing for quite some time, the realization that you really can get damn near everything in the game for free actually hit me. Sure, I buy ships and things all the time, but my Mobius? I got her on sale, and other then the last 80 lobi I got impatient and bought keys for, I bought it entirely with EC. Then I got my temporal warfare set for free from the Featured Episode Reruns. Now I have good fleet tactical consoles as well. I'm in a PvP monster boat that was cheaper by far than any C-Store ship. P2W? Before I would have agreed. Now, I know better.
Now I PvP quite a bit. It's some great fun, and you can learn a lot. I suppose it wouldn't help you any, tho. You can't learn PvP by whining about it on forums because you can't hack it.
Pretty much this ^
If you need to be convinced into trying a new fruit, then you're probably not going at it the right way. If PvP has something you'd be interested in, then there are plenty of people and fleets in the community that you can approach for advice and people to play alongside with. People that don't try PvP simply because they had one or two bad experiences were never going to get into it and thus arn't worth crying over.
Finances were a big reason not to get into PvP, but that's becoming less and less a problem as what a lot of people need to make a build PvP viable is coming from fleets and their holdings. Sure it's not clear cut, DoFFs & Passive Captain Traits are ball-achingly expensive for some builds, but the vast majority is all easily gained. They gave over 400 lobi away to each person a month or so ago if they bothered to run an FE every day to get it, that not only means BoP stuff is easier to reach, but it might well have effected the Exchange prices on stuff you can drop EC for.
As more stuff becomes easier to get from Fleet Holdings, energy credits are becoming less and less useful to have.
Cap'n Kirk, you are more then welcome to come onto LAG ts and hang out, plus there are plenty of other fleets that welcome new players that can take constructive advice and be open minded. Pick a fleet you like the look over, make sure it's members are online when you generally are, make friends.

If I could simply answer that question, I could probably walk away from this game. I know it's not for the inherent quality of the Cryptic brand. I guess it's because if I don't play for a lifetime, I feel as though I've wasted money.
PvP would be so much better without all the space magic. Also, the longer fights really are the most fun. I always feel disappointed when I have to respawn after a 10 second fight. I like to see my ship on the edge of defeat while I struggle to hold it together and stay in the fight as long as I can. I like the prolonged tension. If you just vape me, I feel unfulfilled and you get a small victory. But a drawn-out battle for your life is very exciting. That's what made Star Trek battles so satisfying, they were always on the brink of destruction and holding on by a thread for as long as they could before Scotty/La Forge/O'Brien could pull a miracle.

From what i seen so far pvp is dominated bye some real low life forms...... That spread rumor's talk TRIBBLE. Pvp is so pointless ne more the factions are so inheritly flawed and unbalance the bugs are endless in game...... Its not the game as much who u pvp ne more. another thing the shear fact most 1v1 people in game have ego the size of horse if they can't beat you in zone they just troll you or have there friends do it. Or talk so much TRIBBLE u get mad then they report you and get u banned...........So atm pvp is pointless and need to be revamp along with kerrat. I honestly beleave we need more then one open war zone then one could be for pvp and for farming. Stop the farmer's from calling foul. Just my opion ty all later
If, you don't like it, no one may have it? Why do you hate freedom?
Dude, you missed THAT point by a mile. He was asking the PvP community why HE should play PvP, not whether the PvP aspect of the game should be circular filed. So, he DOESN'T hat freedom at all,.

here is the deal i couldnt find a reason too pvp....... ne more all the facts true that i spoke of sorrie pvp comunity is filled with way to serious of players they want to turn a game into a art of war lol. This to me is going to far just a game thats all...... and the game is better when u just pve it up less drama less head ache.
I will say this too I hate joining a team and watching other bag the match were there friends acroos the field can get a kill.... I have seen several feds doing this for klinks this isnt right. The factions are allready unbalance now klingons use sand bags lol.
So why should he pvp?????? To people to scream at him or cus him over a diff opion on builds. Or watch others just rag him completely out of the zone becuase he cant catch up to the learning curve if the pvp comunity was a bit more healthier i would say go for it.
But atm the its not worth it the only time i pvp ne more is fed v fed. Klingons are just to far out there and most are now it all's that judge so quick then they insult way to much.

Other than bragging rights (which do nothing for me) there are no worthwhile rewards. PvP adds nothing to this game for me, And as such I feel it's simply resources being spent, that could be utilized better elsewhere.
You spend all that time, grinding dilithium, to buy numerically superior gear, that is way over-qualified for PvE, in an attempt to have the "Best Build", only to have someone else find a "Better Build" that handily, defeats it, flushing your time, and effort, down the crapper. It's nothing that approximates canon Star Trek starship combat, and belongs more in a Top Gun atmospheric fighter action game. If you're good at it, the fights take way too long, which detracts from the lethality of the weapons involved, and if you're not good at it, it's just not fun watching your pride, and joy, be repeatedly destroyed over, and over, again. Other than bragging rights (which do nothing for me) there are no worthwhile rewards. PvP adds nothing to this game for me, And as such I feel it's simply resources being spent, that could be utilized better elsewhere.
i agree to a point dont mind builds. But there is now victory in a trash talking match go to kerrat 90 percent of it is trash talking that isnt pvp. second why pvp when ther so many buts out there that wont even let u give your opion. You guys attack ne thats differs from u guys opion in chat. I hate to see u in pvp. Ty all have a nice day.
Further more with the state of pvp comunity only the true vets have the builds we want. Becuase ther time in game we will never cach up. I dont enjoy see vet sto beat my build up over and over. when all he has done has found a exploit or some other broken skill, or the person only has one major attack all he use. They will run 30 kn away then u think match is over they come back to alpha pvp is flawed and for new people it worse it takes average 7 months to grind a decent pvp toon up. Thats if your fleet is well provisioned so its not worth being some vets punching bag it doesn't help u ne and the pvp rewards for fed makes totally not worth it and the klink faction is filled with vets that act like snobbs.
There is no point to pvp reason's
1. to many broken or over used exploits
2. trash talking is gone way over board
3. becuase of the gap in gear and cool downs of reps and limited resources it makes it harder to build a pvp toon.
4. The bottum line the vets of the game dont give ne respect to ne one even when they lose they will just gang up on u in chat and say u are rageing.........or some other trash talking tech. then when u respond they report. Sad really why pvp its a good question
I took it, as he was referring to his own personal resources.
Nah.
It's not an uncommon theme in these forums, players begrudging any effort (real, imagined, or potential) from the developers in regard to PvP. For many it seems that it is not enough that they be isolated from PvP by choice, but to also by deny others that choice.
The post I quoted referred to resources being spent. As the OP is obviously not spending those resources, it is most likely a reference to the resources the developers are spending. This of course makes the entire point academic, since the devs spend practically no resources on PvP.

Actually, I'm not a PvP'er, I'm just commenting on a few things here. Some of the bs that "hardcore", and even some of the casuals do, sickens me, which is why I don't bother with it. I don't feel like wasting my time, beating some one, to be called "HAXOR", or to lose and get called "NOOB" (and worse). Just a waste of my time. That's why, in one thread, that's current, where a guy is running around, PURPOSEFULLY telling people "Hey, I had a good night, both fighting with, and fighting against you guys", I had to post in there. Basically told him, "If more of the PvP community was like that, I'd seriously reconsider my stance against doing PvP"
With that said though, some of the people in here being "anti-PvP', are really starting to be as bad.

I understand that sentiment. Particularly, that being on the losing side is not likely to make me receptive to any gloating. And of course being subjected to bitterness after winning a battle will take away some of its sweetness.
However, I really don't find this to be as common as some people portray it. Maybe I've been lucky. Maybe it's because I don't hesitate to use the "ignore" feature. If, I get abuse in the game that starts to harsh my mellow, 2 mouse clicks later and I'll never see it from that player again.

Well, I don't mind a LITTLE gloating. After all, if the guy beats me, he deserves a little pat on the back (whether that win was easy or hard, he won). Insults, however, are a different matter. And as far as the "common-ness" of this, every time I hear about PvP, whether from someone that just returned from a match in game (pugging), in most social zones when talking about it, or here on the forums. I find 2 very distinct themes. One is: Oh, they were so noob/oh I just went up against a cheater, there's no way he could have beaten me if he hadn't. Kind of getting sick of hearing that. (And my ignore list has gotten longer and longer, sad to say, the PvP thing is only one of the things I find I have to ignore people on.)
And then like 10 seconds later, or like within the next 5 posts, you see that same abusive guy, asking"Why don't the queues pop, why does it take so long to get a match going?" I mean, even "Captain Obvious" here couldn't make them see why, lol.
