    No, it doesnt it.

What you get is hegemony, every character is exactly the same with the exact same bridge crew that acts the exact same way in the exact same situation.

There is no immersion when there is exactly no difference, what you get is exactly the same response.

And personality? dont make me laugh ... every KDF character is exactly the same, every mission plays exactly the same ... there is no personality, this isnt a JRPG that is character heavy to begin with ... this is the worst of both worlds.

This is a small immersion breaker when compared to the countless children of Riker and Troi running around, defying that in ST's EU they only have two, at the moment. Makes me wish they kill one of them off, or make it so Troi can't have children anymore, to make these people rethink their toons and add some originality. And don't get me started on all the Enterprizes out there.

As far as the Fed story goes, these crew members weren't picked by the player's captain, they were picked by the captain in the tutorial, and have no bearing on YOUR crew's story. Just tell them, "Thanks, it's been great, but you all don't fit the needs I have for a crew."

^ this. So much this. That suggestion could even work with Tovan.

Seriously, Tovan himself is not a problem at all. The fact that he's a mandatory BOFF is the problem. If he's changed into a standard storyline NPC that shows up as if he's a BOFF and never shows up outside the missions(or there's an option for him to), that would be perfectly acceptable.

That way, you don't have to throw out ANY of his story. You don't have to toss away any of his voice actor's work. And you still give us what we want. Everyone's happy.

Thank you for the support lol. I really think that would work well and to an extent we see something like this with Worf's Son in the new Klingon Storyline. (We never get to keep him but besides that he is with us and helpful just the way Tovan was)

This! Their ability to outdo their own failures is quite impressive. If only this power could be harnessed for good.

There we go with a 'slap in the face' again. . . .

As Kestrel said, we keep your characters very generic, so that YOU can decide what your character is. Unfortunately, that makes it very difficult to tell compelling stories about him/her. The Bridge Officers give us a way to tell that story, without it being about your particular character. (And thus, it isn't OUT of character for your captain).

Tovan was our first attempt at anything like this. We learned, and Elisa Flores is dismissable. We will learn more from her, and improve the next. It's progress in the game, making the game experience (as a whole, and for new players) better. If you don't like your new bridge officer with real talking action!? you can dismiss him, and keep playing as you would otherwise.

As a foundry author I understand how frustrating it can get to work with real limitations like this. For example 90% of all Trek happens on the players ship yet we cannot access those maps in the foundry.

We can tell our own stories. We don't need you to do it for us. And I'm very confident that there are many players who don't give a dang about stories in an MMO anyway.

You know what we, the players, can't do, but that you, the Cryptic devs SHOULD do?

    Fix the broken game mechanics.

With every decision, there is an equal and disproportionate rage about it from some group on a forum.

Not enough story, too much story. This is broke, why did you waste time on that thing instead?

If you don't like the story they tell, press F a lot and skip it and then make up what you want to have happened. Use your imagination, don't complain about it.

I myself wrote a back story in full before S8 launched, then continued it using the constraints of what the game story gives, me, and embellished and added my own spin.

The game as is prevents nothing story wise. Your words written make the story you want. Period.
